Honoring the best of traditional winemaking, the wines from our estate vineyards are handcrafted to showcase the natural expression of the vineyard, variety, and vintage. In a world of flashy technology, some might call this hopelessly old-fashioned. We call it Craftwork.
Aromas of stone fruit and citrus are followed by a lively blend of pear and tropical fruit. The palate displays crisp acidity with a fruit-forward, fresh finish, making this a versatile wine that pairs particularly well with light fish dishes, grilled chicken, prosciutto, and melon, or all on its own.
Winemaking
The grapes are whole-cluster pressed, chilled, and racked clean to a refrigerated stainless steel tank. Stainless tanks provide a neutral environment that serves to accentuate the wine’s crisp, zesty qualities and retain its distinctive freshness. A select yeast is used to start a long, slow, and cool fermentation to enhance the fruit esters. The finished wine continues to age in stainless steel and is stored cold to retain the wine’s aroma, crisp acidity, and fresh character.
Vineyards
To grow a high-quality, flavorful Pinot Grigio, a cool climate area is a necessity to allow for slow ripening and maintain the grape’s fruit character and natural acidity. We grow Pinot Grigio on our cool climate estate vineyard located just outside of the town of Greenfield. With morning fogs that often linger until mid-day, the intricate fruit flavors have time to develop while preserving crucial acidity. The right location and traditional winemaking technique which allows us to craft a bright, lively style that is brimming with fruit.

6x 2021 Craftwork Pinot Grigio, Monterey County Case:
Our wines are handcrafted from estate-grown grapes from our vineyards in Monterey County, located in California’s golden Central Coast. This growing region is a wonder, with a myriad of soils, elevations, and microclimates that allow us to grow an array of varieties. Through vigilant attention to these influences, we strive to showcase the natural expression of the vineyard, variety, and vintage in every bottle. In a world of flashy technology, some might call this helplessly old-fashioned. We call it Craftwork.
The Monterey County growing region begins near Monterey Bay to the north and stretches down through the 90-mile long Salinas Valley. The indelible influence of the ocean and the plunging submarine canyon that lies two miles below the bay’s surface results in cool coastal conditions throughout the region. Morning fog often lingers until mid-day in the valley, unfolding into warm, sunshine-filled days during the summer months. With a range of microclimates along the length of the valley, we grow each variety in the location that is most suitable for that grape and allows it to reach its full flavor potential.
Rat reporting for duty. Always happy to lend my untrained/unrefined palate to the proceedings.
Straight out of the fridge, pop n pour, 48 degrees- faint fruit on nose, almost muscat like. Initial sip-dry, mineral finish, tart/crisp. Astringent.
56 degrees- not much nose, shorter astringency, short fruit in the mid with the mineral finish.
Warm- sl chill acid on tip of tongue, astringency tamed, still mineral finish.
Stelvin closure makes it easy to put back in the fridge and enjoy the next day. Wine doesn’t seem to change much.
It paired fine with my rosemary pan fried porkchop, but the lemon blueberry cheesecake seemed to clash for some reason. Might have been the dairy/minerality that were clashing for me.
Am not getting fruit forward from this, but I’m not a routine grig drinker so maybe it’s a relative thing. Less than $10 a bottle is a great price if you like minerality in your grig. It would likely make good sangria with lemon, strawberry, pineapple if you don’t care for it straight.

2021 Craftwork Pinot Grigio - $20 = 18.18%
Simple and straight to the point, today, which is exactly how I feel this wine presented when the wife and I sampled it yesterday. We refrained from chilling it too much - in order to not mute much flavor from the wine - and popped the stelvin cap at about 58F.
Appearance - Exceptionally light in color; just the faintest hues of straw yellow. Brilliantly clear
Nose - Delicate honey sweetness amidst the citrus and minerals. Definitely some pear and melon, but certainly far from a punch in the face with fruit.
Taste - Bright, crisp acidity without too much sourness; nicely balanced, if not rather “single-note”. The wine paired very well with a board of rich full fat cheese: morel and leek farmhouse, Bellavitano, Pecarino, etc. Acid, salt, and fat; always a winner!
Overall - It was… good. Nothing I would write home about, but wouldn’t mind serving it on a warm patio to my neighbors. QPR here is pretty good, imo. Salut!

Dang I love useless info…
Useless tidbit #1, this looks like it has a suggested retail of $22 not $11…I think…maybe…maybe not
Useless tidbit #2, this is another Scheid project
fwiw
@kaolis always appreciate your “useless” tidbits, but do these on particular, I really appreciated #2
