@arielleslie When we Kickstarted Meh, I designated the guy who put us over the top as our Scapegoat. The community then took it on themselves to designate a monthly Meh Scapegoat (and eventually we got around to giving them a goat badge).
Casemates ≠ Meh, so I’d think you’d all want to do something different here, but it’s not really up to me (I love that the community comes up with these things).
@dave Thanks for the cliff’s notes. I have tried wading into the Meh forums a couple times, but it is so full of in-jokes and references that I ran away.
@arielleslie Ha yes, they’ve come up with quite a lot, but I do think people are mostly up for filling you in if you’re up for asking. It’s a friendly bunch.
@arielleslie Stick around for a bit on meh. Everyone of us had to learn the in-jokes and references when we joined. Those come with any online forums that have tight communities. You just jump in and ask questions as @dave said. We don’t bite - not at first, anyway
@arielleslie I’ve been there for years and sometimes feel that way. @dave is right tho… with a few exceptions, we’re a friendly bunch, albeit rough around the edges in some cases.
Thanks @dave and @baqui63 . I didn’t mean to suggest that the Meh crowd seemed unfriendly. It was just hard to try to jump into a conversation that was in full swing.
@mfladd hehe depends some are sharks in the forum — at least sometimes . Hey that’s it we need a resident shark patrolling casemates forum waters —“ taking a bite out of wine” as it were
Always a fan of the outliers (not out-liars), I’ve always had a soft spot for the giant anteater or pangolin.
However, given the Casemates name, how about something from “down under” (G’day mates!, see what I did there?) That heads down the road to dingoes, koalas, wallabies, platypuses, emus, crocodiles, goannas (like in Crocodile Dundee), and the animal of choice for drinking- the wombat!
We’ve excited to join the new kickoff and look forward to join in with the folks that for some reason continue to live in Illinois.
Go wombats!
@rjquillin I see it fine, presuming it is supposed to be the Lab Rat Report banner with the red-eyed rat holding a plate of cheese and a glass of brownish red stuff. Pic… no link that I see, but I’d be totally amazed if it was moderated.
@rjquillin You may be hiding posts… is there a link labeled somehting like “+ Show 2 more replies” ? If so, try clicking it. Since you posted the pic, if you refreshed, it would no longer be a new post and might be hidden, depending on your settings for the forum.
@rjquillin Your browser probably just isn’t loading it for some reason. Maybe your internet is too slow. I suspect the lazy load image feature could be at play here, especially if your browser is older and/or your internet is slowish.
@arielleslie I’m kinda wondering the same. I was just reading about Octopuses (or is it Octopi?) and never new that they had a beak…??? Weird. So my first thought on this concept is to call them Beaker reviews. It obviously has a double-meaning with the Beaker from the muppets…which might epitomize the majority of us…
A graphic of an octopus with Beaker’s hair would be splendid…
@arielleslie First off, holy crap that octopus pic is superb! hahaha
Second, thanks for validating that I’m not an ignorant slob! While I stink at grammar (and punctuation)…I use ellipses way too much…at least I got this one right!
@arielleslie There is, however, some nice history to the rat/cheese report banner. Indulge some of us with a token of where we came from, and what started all this.

I am thinking that CaseRats might be a good name for the reviewers. Based on the KISS principle. Although there is the obvious carry over, Lab Rats is so last website. Think of the t-shirt possibilities!
Nice review VA.
If yes, I vote Mike808 for drunken goat
We need a new animal for wine. Drinken Otter, monkey, or ferret.
@jml326 Since the other site has a monkey for a mascot, that’s a no.
@jml326 historically this group has been fond of rats
@CorTot I was thinking the same thing.
@jml326 Although bhodilee favors Otters …
@jml326 neigh — Need a horse as the mascot as a lot of people horse around in the forums/ whatever you want to call these communities now!
@CorTot “Lil Casey” the drunken rat mascot of casemates.
@medz @cortot This may work.
@jml326 OTTERS!!! Though, @Corrado has always been our goat, not an acronym!
That depends. Have you ever voted for a GoaT?
@mfladd no voting necessary. We all know who it is. It’s readily apparent to anyone with a pulse.
@jbartus
@jbartus And the first person who brings up Tom Brady and “wining”, I will fucking cut them!
@mfladd
Tom Brady, & Wining.
With Giselle, of course.
@mfladd aren’t you technically that person now?
@jbartus I saw the potential with your post and thought I would get ahead of it.
@jbartus hopefully no one deflates your comment
@communist bring some valid empirical evidence to the table and maybe that jab would have some sting.
@f00l aww you are a true patriot my friend — and TB’s favorite tv show- well the Brady Bunch of course
Exposing my newbie status by asking what the hell you’re talking about.

@mfladd
Wining, again?
@f00l Moar cheese with your wining?
@mfladd hehe depends some are sharks in the forum — at least sometimes . Hey that’s it we need a resident shark patrolling casemates forum waters —“ taking a bite out of wine” as it were
@arielleslie in jokes — of course because of course you just jump in the conversation and joke - my motto anyways ! Welcome btw
@mfladd sure you don’t bite. And the goat doesn’t get their own trophy and prize. Just don’t ask how long it takes to get said prize…

@benguin986 I like the idea of a Dingo because I always hear Elaine from Seinfeld say “A Dingo ate my baby” anytime I hear the word Dingo…
I needed to put this somewhere in casemates.
@CaptAmehrican the goat thing is very meh. This community needs something else. Perhaps a skunk as it is bad if your wine gets skunked.
@CaptAmehrican in liking the rat idea
@jml326 +1
@CaptAmehrican Ah - Bully Hill is Noo Yawk vineyerd. Walter Taylor was quite a character.
@matthew had a good word play today in Slack: Head Casemate
The “corker”, who corks the forums, like eau de gym sock plonk.
Or “plonker”? “DP” for drain plonk? And I don’t mean the other kind, but I like the way you think.
The head cheese?
@mike808 Wisconsin fan eh?
@AttyVette Nah. It’s what you pair with the whines.
@mike808
Just call them “Corrado” and get it over with. It would be nice to have someone to whom The Torch of Shame could be passed on a scheduled basis.
Giving it more thought, “Critter” would be a very appropriate (and alliterative) designation.
ref: https://wine.woot.com/offers/parker-station-critter-quartet
@corrado Wait…there is a Goat and a Torch of Shame? So who wins which honor?
@jmruru So much winning!
@corrado exactly
You can’t spell casemates without sesame cat.
I got nothin’.
@markgm You also can’t spell casemates without “a semen cat.”
@corrado I guess that’s what makes the sesames stick!
@corrado
“a seme(n)[???] cat.” ???
“Casemates.com” is curiously short of incidences of the letter “N”.
In fact, within Casemates.com, the letter “N” seem to be entirely absinthe.
@f00l Which makes the heart grow fonder, not improve one’s orthographic faculties.
@f00l Hush! I was curious how long it would take someone to notice!
@mike808
“Faculties? I ain’t got no faculties! I don’t need no faculties! I don’t have to show you any stinking faculties!”
Burroughs slipped, even expressing as metaphor. Language, in that “metaphorical idiom”, would be ‘innumerable viruses’.
Aphasing out … absinthesthesia.
Sailor Hat, because what do you do with a drunken sailor?
@Cerridwyn Nah, that’s for the resident custodian of the Mehcronomicon.
How about a corkscrew? The T-handled kind should be easy to make into a badge, grey on white or inverted.
Something like this:
@mike808
does that mean this person always has a screw loose?
@Cerridwyn No, it means that if this is your badge, you got screwed.
We really are fond of rats.
Lab Rat is best. Also sympatico with Mediocre Laboratories which always lurks in the backroom of meh.
@rjquillin humm, did the pic/link get mod’ed out?
@rjquillin I see it fine, presuming it is supposed to be the Lab Rat Report banner with the red-eyed rat holding a plate of cheese and a glass of brownish red stuff. Pic… no link that I see, but I’d be totally amazed if it was moderated.
@baqui63 interesting… For me it’s now missing from my own post. I have a lot to learn here.
@rjquillin You may be hiding posts… is there a link labeled somehting like “+ Show 2 more replies” ? If so, try clicking it. Since you posted the pic, if you refreshed, it would no longer be a new post and might be hidden, depending on your settings for the forum.
@baqui63 nope, just a fuzzy little dot right below the “W” in “We really are fond of rats.” and then the back arrow Reply.
@rjquillin
/youtube Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
@rjquillin Your browser probably just isn’t loading it for some reason. Maybe your internet is too slow. I suspect the lazy load image feature could be at play here, especially if your browser is older and/or your internet is slowish.
@rjquillin Just use the rat emoji
@rjquillin Just to confirm, no moderation. Nothing to “moderate.”
@rjquillin I see the picture.
Um, so yeah…We should figure out what we’re going to call these reviewers…Just sayin’…
I’m voting for Dingo per above for now…And instead of “A Dingo ate my baby.” maybe we say, “A Dingo drank my wine!”
@vaaccess call them Corker”s— for the obvious reason or Bunnies— for a real hare raising review
@vaaccess And given that the Dingo is involved, it’s probably a Shiraz!
Corkers? Corkscrews? LabRat? Dingo? Winos? CaseMaters? (An old truck could be the logo…)
Asshole, cause we’re all jealous to have not been chosen?
Since the launch shirt is an octopus, shouldn’t it be along those lines?
@arielleslie I’m kinda wondering the same. I was just reading about Octopuses (or is it Octopi?) and never new that they had a beak…??? Weird. @vaaccess
As for the plural (I actually find this stuff interesting)
@arielleslie First off, holy crap that octopus pic is superb! hahaha
Second, thanks for validating that I’m not an ignorant slob! While I stink at grammar (and punctuation)…I use ellipses way too much…at least I got this one right!
@vaaccess Can you tell that I really don’t want to be doing my work at work today?
@arielleslie Fortunately, I’m off today, and instead of avoiding work, I’m avoiding stuff I should be doing around the house…
@arielleslie There is, however, some nice history to the rat/cheese report banner. Indulge some of us with a token of where we came from, and what started all this.
@rjquillin
You know that your fingernails will be all gone if you keep clinging to the past
@ScottW58 But I so enjoy the noise that so irritates you.
I sure could do with fewer giphys tho…
Well, @Snapster, who was the last kickstarter backer? That was the original Meh goat…

@edlada Based on this, I’d like to put in my official entry as “Case Studies”.
@edlada Emoji:
#1. There’s only one breakfast octopus, and he’s already been eaten.
#2. “Grape Apes”
/giphy Grape Ape
Drink the ink?
@hscottk Only Petite Syrahs need apply.
I don’t care, just as long as there isn’t any candy corn.
