Help me decide
1I’m hitting some analysis paralysis so I’m outsourcing to the internet in vague straw poll fashion.
Here are the options:
- Russian River Zin/petit syrah (80/20) at…pricier.
- Healdsburg Cabernet & Merlot (also probably 80/20) at reasonable
- Amador county cabernet at cheap.
- Probably zinfandel from contra costa county (cheap, a bit of a mystery though)
- Zin from the southern end of Napa (reasonable, but may or may not be available).
- Kenwood Cab/Merlot (probably 50/50) at pricier.
What would you go for?

This is a “what do I purchase?” question?
A lot of that Amador/Lodi Cab ends up in Napa/Sonoma blends; unannounced if under 15% iirc from the tour.
I’m going to be buying a quarter ton or so of one of these options for some home wine making. Too many good options, only so much space in my garage.
@novium Ahhh, grapes!
Context is everything.
I’d probably go #4. Love me the mysteries.
I’d go with the best berries I could afford, either #1 or #6.
I’d take 1 or 3.
And/or we could get together a CyberPub effort to do something larger scale if you’re willing!
@MarkDaSpark
@klezman ATM I’m leaning towards doing both of those! Well, aiming for about 30 gallons of #1 and thinking maybe 20 or so of #3.
I’d stick with cab or Merlot for home brew. You are more likely to get lower alcohol levels.
@trifecta we’re aiming to pick at 23.5 or so. Last year we made wine from #5 (the grapes were fantastic) but we were about a week late picking… And had a number of raisins as a result… So we just did some judicious water additions and bam, we ended up at 13.5 abv, right on target.
Peter Wellington used to make terrific wines from Kenwood Cabs and Merlots (and also Zin and Syrah and just about anything else).
