The history of this classic blend of Roussanne and Marsanne is rooted in France’s Rhône Valley. Our blend comes from the warm climate of Oregon’s Rogue Valley. This rich and succulent wine is unique in its ability to showcase delicate flavors such as apricot and honeysuckle, yet it retains a full-bodied roundness that is complemented by balanced oak. Each grape brings unique characteristics: structure and slightly more acidity from Roussanne; richness from Marsanne; and silkiness with apricot notes from Viognier.
A Rhône blend known for being food friendly, this wine showcases stonefruit such as peach and apricot along with honeysuckle, nectarine, nutmeg, and vanilla. The entrance is round and succulent with a rich mid-palate that coats the mouth. The finish features balanced acidity with freshness and length.
Winemaking
The fruit is fermented in French oak barrels, then sur lie aged seven months in French oak, 35% new.
Vintage Notes
The winter was wetter than normal and, with better snowpack than in recent years, the water table in the soils was high. Spring brought mild weather. Bud break was around the middle of April – slightly later than is typical. A heavy vine canopy required a lot of maintenance to remove excessive growth. Fruit set was a week to 10 days later than normal but with warm, dry weather in August through October, hang time was fairly long. August heat kept berry size a little below average, but yields were above average. Most of the valley was harvested by the first of November.

I always love when I get an email with a rat bottle on the way. Though this one caught me a bit off guard, in early March, for a March 22nd listing. Quite a long gap, so we stuck a post it note on the bottle and put it on the bar. Luckily, for once it didn’t fade into the background, and we remembered to pop it in the fridge Monday night. (our wine fridge died recently. It’s making very loud noises from the compressor, so alas, we’re stuck with the standard fridge for the time being!)
Smooth opening the bottle, those nice plasticky corks (I prefer them. They’re much less likely to split from my clumsiness!). Pretty, rather refined looking bottle label. I had high hopes for this one, since I adored the King Estates North by Northwest Rose, Riesling, and Chardonnay.
Initial impressions-minerally and tart, a touch thin. I let it warm up a bit, which did help the body on it and brought a hint of lime to the tartness. Very clear, just a touch of yellow.
Once it warmed up even more, there was definitely something fruity on the nose, strawberry maybe? It smells like it wants to have a sweetness that isn’t in the wine itself, sorta like seltzer. Not a bad thing, but I always wonder how the scent and the flavor can be so different.
I really want it like, in the middle of summer with like, something bright and herbal to eat, like a cold chicken pesto salad on a picnic or something. I think I’d like a case of this for about mid-late June. This is the kind of bottle I’d pull out when my in-laws, who are amazing, come to visit. My MIL is a gin/tonic type for cocktails, and gets drunk off a full glass of wine. My FIL is a neat whisky drinker when life offers him an opportunity. It’s a bit more sophisticated tasting than a daily drinker, a little drier than my ideal, but I can see the appeal.

91 Points. Editors’ Choice. A foray south into Rhône-style white blends, this is a tasty, fruit-powered wine. Ripe peach, apricot and melon flavors coat the palate, with floral highlights and a burst of buttery caramel that lingers on the finish. PG 10/1/19
Haven’t had a bad offering from King estate. Always solid at a price point that really can’t be beat. The 2016 is a good everyday white that is food friendly.
Roussanne-Marsanne makes a good blend. And the case pricing on this looks great, although I’m not sure I want a full case. Is anyone in the Kansas City area interested in a split?
We just had one of the 2016 offer of this last week and I said “we should have gotten another case”. And bam! here’s the 2017. Great white blend to have on hand.
Color: opaque light yellow
Nose was not very intense but was able to pick out some crushed almonds, pear, honeysuckle, and faint apricot
Taste: slight lemon peel, apricot, marzipan, medium weight, balanced tannins (low), medium acidity but vibrant enough to not make it flabby
In short, a very nice daily drinker that paired well with Rubio’s Mahi Mahi burrito. Well made and kept me coming back for more. The body and weight reminded me of an unoaked Chardonnay. Amazing QPR even at the six pack price! I’d be happy paying $25-$30 per bottle anytime. In for six.
What is the vintage? Does Case Mates ever list the vintage date of their wines or am I just missing it? The label shown is from the 2017 vintage. Is this what we are getting?
@rjquillin Well I still can’t find it. Why wouldn’t the just post it on the main listing? This company and their website is really fakakta. Misleading with mediocre wines. I’m out. There are much better sites like WTSO.

I’m a rat. Received this bottle over one week ago and should’ve calendared when offer was going live. My bad. I’ll report tonight.
I was so terrified I’d forget too!
This is one where I want to click the button, but no Ohio-love. Dang it.
@drhellknow also, not planning a trip down anytime soon
@drhellknow Same here. King Estate is a favorite and this sounds like it’s right up our alley. Too bad.

In for a case, to split with my mom. Her wine rack has gotten sparse now that she has resumed traveling, so I’ll split this one with her.

@simtel20 If you and she decide you want to offload a couple of those, I’d be happy to participate. (Assuming you’re still a nearby neighbor.)
I really enjoyed the wine from January, in for a case.
This looks interesting but I’m light on space. Does anyone in the San Diego area want to split a case?
I love almost everything from Willamette Valley. Esp King’s Estate. Plus, DH has suddenly stopped drinking red wine. (Sigh.) In for a case.

@Burrloin vintage shown on main page and at the top of the discussion page and link as well.

ps Yes it’s 2017
@Burrloin you’re missing it. No one else has any issue seeing the vintage. It’s not Casemates. It’s you.
@Burrloin have you ever purchased here? How can you say mediocre wines? You’re missing out.
@Burrloin @ttboy23 Some people don’t get it. That is okay. It leaves more for us. I feel sorry for people who do not get it.
