Colour: Very alluring pink candyfloss hue, fun and inviting.
Nose: This is an elegant Rosé, as expected made with Cabernet Sauvignon, it exudes class without forgoing its roots, but combines elegantly with everyday enjoyment. Classic fynbos and spice combine with candyfloss and raspberry cool drink in an everyday fun way.
Palate: Both inviting with the sweetness of black and red berries, and also alluring with cinnamon and earthy fynbos perfume. This wine truly has it all and doesn’t stretch to combine the classic with the really delicious!
Vineyard Information
At the core of the Rosé are Cabernet Sauvignon parcels grown and made on the Mulderbosch estate. This is the heart of the Rosé blend, and subsequently, the wine has a distinct Stellenbosch character. Stellenbosch brings a lot of fruit and especially the right type of sweetness (fruit sweetness) to the palate. Swartland has more attack, it is more prominent on the palate but also has a more herbaceous edge to it for interest.

Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon
Region: Coastal Region (Stellenbosch & Swartland), South Africa
When Mulderbosch founder, Larry Jacobs, bought the farm in 1989 the community referred to the property as “vuilplasie”, Afrikaans for “dirty little farm”. Shortly after, he partnered with Mike Dobrovic, known as the South African Mr. Sauvignon Blanc, and together they cleaned up the property and planted the first vineyards. A (small) cellar was later built and the first set of wines were released: Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The dream was to produce wine, but certainly not just any wine; they had to consistently reflect innovation, creativity, and excellence.
As an innovator, Mulderbosch was the first producer in the country to successfully create a barrel-fermented style of Chenin Blanc. Trailblazing the infant rosé category with our Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon continued this thread of innovation. Today, Mulderbosch has achieved commercial success worldwide and has affirmed our identity as a producer of distinctive wines, representative of the soils and climate in which our grapes are grown.
Mulderbosch Vineyards is widely considered one of South Africa’s iconic wineries and has established a reputation for excellence. We are tireless in our pursuit of making wines of the highest quality that honor our proud heritage and can be enjoyed by all.

I was excited to get an email from Alice that a surprise box was coming my way.
My usual tasters are out of town for a while so it was just me tasting.
I had the bottle in my normal fridge for 2 hours before tasting.
PNP
Color - pretty, orangy/salmon color
Aroma- Apricot, white grape. Smells sweet, like white grape juice with apricot
Taste: Apricot with some stone fruit, tad bit of white grape juice. Not sweet, not dry, nice in between happy medium.
Mouth Feel: I might be crazy, but I felt a bit of fizz on my tongue, even though there are no bubbles.
Nice light clean finish. My tongue feels like when you have eaten a not quite ripe apricot/peach. That weird feeling you get, kinda dries out your tongue while still being mouthwatering. Hopefully this makes sense.
I had Cacio De Pepe for dinner and this paired well with the richness from the cream and spiciness of the pepper. Neither the wine or the pasta got lost or overpowered.
I let a glass sit out and get to room temp.
Aroma: I got nothing, no distinguishable aroma
Taste: Not much of a change
The fizz I got when it was chilled, was not as pronounced when at room temperature.
Maybe a bit more stone/pit feeling/flavor. I might be totally off, but maybe a hint of almond? not unpleasant.
Still good with the Cacio De Pepe.
I tried with dark chocolate covered figs and it went very well.
I did not get any of the black/red berries or cinnamon that they describe in the tasting notes.
Normally I like my whites/roses not super chilled, but this one I preferred more chilled.
I asked Mr. Mommadeb to try it ( to him, all wine tastes like wine) he said it was nice and light.
Overall impressions, I liked it and think it would make a perfect summer wine for friends who like good wine as well as those who like wine. Will probably order some, have to think about how much, as I am running out of room.
@mommadeb@pseudogourmet98@tercerowines I think I’ve had the mild ‘fizziness’ in some whites and rosés that I’ve enjoyed. I generally don’t mind it, and if anything it makes the wine more ‘fun.’ I don’t usually view it as a ‘flaw.’ But I’m never sure if it was the intention of the winemaker for it to end up that way.
I think when I noted it, it was probably from wines aged in stainless steel, as @tercerowines suggests. But as a novice in this area (only having taken VIT 3), I’m curious about the reason that this would be more likely in stainless steel.
@mommadeb@pmarin@pseudogourmet98 it’s more likely in stainless vs oak aged wines because oak allows some oxygen transfer and ‘microoxygenation’ whereas stainless is an airtight container and any dissolved CO2 left after primary or secondary fermentation that may remain will continue to remain). Hope that makes sense . . .
@mommadeb@pmarin@pseudogourmet98@tercerowines the airtight nature makes sense that it traps CO2. Basically unintentional Charmat method sparkling. Not sure what the oxygen has to do with it, though.
This was on sale recently and I bought a case. I’m definitely not a Rose drinker, or a Dry White drinker, but as the Rat said, this is off-dry but not too sweet. I had a bottle the other day, and it was delicious.
the last offer seems to have been the same price, and it sold out. Summer’s coming, get it while you can.
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?

2022 Mulderbosch Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé - $30 = 25.00%
And now for some totally useless Saturday morning information…or is it non-information?
James Suckling. 88 points. Aromas of rose stems, pitted cherries and grated nutmeg. Medium-bodied with a hint of sweetness to the berry fruit. Dense texture and a crisp finish. Drink now.
88 points Tim Atkin
82 points. 3 stars. John Platter

90 points, this rose is vibrant and ripe with layered aromas of strawberry, red cherry, and raspberry with a hint of rose petal. The palate is similarly fruit-forward with flavors of strawberry, pomegranate, and passion fruit.
I did learn a little about fynbos though this this morn
I still have a couple left of the '21, but I’m sorely tempted to get a case, if I can find some enablers.
@irenegade (I know you haven’t even gotten your bottles of the last vintage!) and @simtel20, or any interest? I can use that Halloween coupon from Meh.

Thanks WD and Alice for the surprise box.
I guessed this wine was $20 a bottle.
@mommadeb
Long time no see (read?)! Good rattage. Could that “fizz” be minerality?
@pseudogourmet98 maybe. It wasn’t unpleasant, just unexpected.
@mommadeb @pseudogourmet98 could simply be dissolved CO2 if fermented and aged in stainless steel . . .
@mommadeb @pseudogourmet98 @tercerowines I think I’ve had the mild ‘fizziness’ in some whites and rosés that I’ve enjoyed. @klezman @mommadeb @pmarin @pseudogourmet98 the permeability of oak allows the CO2 to dissipate . . .

fwiw
@kaolis does pitting a cherry alter it’s taste?
@kaolis @rjquillin
@kaolis @rjquillin it tastes less crunchy.

No regrets, this was a good batch.
