2020 Obvious Wines Nº01 Dark & Bold Red Blend, Central Coast
Tasting Notes
Aromas of dark fruits, baking spices, and subtle earthiness. Flavors of black currant, blueberry, and plum with vanilla, clove, and dark chocolate notes. Smooth yet well-structured mouthfeel.

Created in 2018 by a reformed “wine-snob” originally from Champagne, France, Obvious Wines founder Brice Baillie noticed a gap between an overall growing interest and love for Boutique, Vegan & Eco-friendly wines, yet a high level of intimidation towards selecting and discussing them.
So he decided to create an accessible and playful brand that still checked all the necessary boxes of high-quality, eco-conscious wine. So, he got to work cold-calling wineries in California to identify those who were open to partnerships and met his criteria. Eventually, he got a bite, and Obvious Wines was born.
@jrbw3 My initial reaction was the same but I’m assuming that they didn’t sell so well at $99 so they had to drop the price to get rid of it all. Just my $0.02. I mean prices go up and down and we like it enough that it was a buy at $99. I might actually pick up another case at this price. And actually I can use my $10 coupon to get it even less
@jrbw3 So yeah…I bit on the Side Deal offer. Still can’t figure out how I’m supposed to receive the $10 coupon (email?) so maybe I’m experiencing a $20 loss???
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?

Hello again! Back for another rat-attack. Of wine. To drink. Not to attack rats with. Right! Here we go.
So this is gonna be a quick one, mostly because I know this wine pretty well, and have previously made two 6-bottle purchases of it. I almost made a third when Meh/Casemates/SideDeal offered it the same time as the Dragon Ridge blend a few weeks ago and I went with that one just to try something new.
Let me say outright, this is a very approachable, very drinkable blend. It’s perfect for dinner, summer evening hangouts and “just because I deserve it” situations. I found it to be easy on on a palate, smooth – right out of the bottle – and very low acidity. It’s also a bit of a misnomer, while it is dark (it us a red blend, after all), it is hardly bold. It probably should have been named Dark and Smooth. Just an overall easy-drinker.
I obviously (pun intended) recommend this wine. Great to have on hand for guests or just to have!
EPILOGUE:
The other reason I can’t post photos or whatever this time around is I had a blood test on Monday and my sugars are high. No medical emergency here or anything, but making an effort to normalize those numbers and cutting back on the wine is one of those things I need to do right now, unfortunately.
I’ll be able to abuse my body in another three months after I get my next test. Until then, cheers everybody!
@takethefarm those of us who ordered it when it was on Sidedeal are receiving it this week, so maybe someone who got it yesterday or today can pop a bottle and give us a clue!
@wardad SAme here. . Surprised to see that PA is not on the ship list for this yet i was able to get the obvious wines Sauvignon blanc offer shipped to me. Very peculiar.

6 bottles for $49.99 $8.33/bottle + $1.33/bottle shipping
Case of 12 for $79.99 $6.67/bottle + $1/bottle shipping
Previous offer: 6/19/24
@ilCesare appreciate the previous offer link
@ilCesare @rjquillin also offered 10/15/22
4/28/23
9/4/23
All offers were $77.99 for 6 bottles, $119.99 for 12
This is a bit insulting. Sold on Side Deal for 99.99. Ten dollar coupon. Sold here 79.99. Math says $10 loss.
@jrbw3 If it makes you feel better, this is $2/case more than the previous offerings here.
@jrbw3 @Mark_L Previous offers were $77.99 for 6, 12 packs were $119.99. Blowing it out here apparently
@jrbw3 @kaolis Ah, I was looking at the 6-pack price. Definitely a reduction over previous offers.

@Allieroon you should have received an email. I’ll whisper you what mine looked like.
Last week it was Usual wines now it is obvious wines. What’s going on!
Well, it’s obvious that wine is usually sold here.

@ACraigL Question, you tasted this rat bottle or your notes are from previous purchases?
@kaolis Fair question. Based on previous experience, not this specific bottle, unfortunately.
@ACraigL Cool, was just a little confusing… good luck with your labs, much more important!
Anyone able to speak to how this wine has evolved over the couple of years it’s been available/offered?!?
@takethefarm those of us who ordered it when it was on Sidedeal are receiving it this week, so maybe someone who got it yesterday or today can pop a bottle and give us a clue!
@takethefarm My case is arriving any second. I’ll chime in after work.
Oh wow, no shipping to Virginia. We’re fortunate (usually) here in that we can just click, not worrying whether the wine ships to our state.
But every couple of years, I get the surprise “no ship to your state” message. Darn it.
