Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is the first Italian DOC. This place - also referred to as “The King of All Wines” - was known to be the favorite of some of the most influential Popes, Kings, and Presidents of Italy. Montepulciano in Tuscany holds some of the world’s greatest hidden treasures. One of them is Fattoria Della Talosa.
This wine enchants with an intense, floral, and fruity-spicy aroma with hints of black cherries, tobacco, and oak spice. With complex and elegant flavors, this exquisite Vino Nobile shows firm tannins on the palate, a balanced structure, and a well-integrated acidity. The finish is long, soft, delicate, and harmonious. An eclectic wine, suitable for any occasion.

Talosa’s story started over 50 years ago when Angelo Jacorossi acquired this beautiful historical estate. The Jacorossi family started pushing very strongly to produce extremely high-quality wines, so much so that this estate became a watershed in the quality of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Today, this award-winning winery is being managed by the 3rd generation of the Jacorossi family. This property comprises more than 80 acres of vineyards, established in one of the loveliest Crus in Montepulciano called Pietrose. This outstanding place is located at a 350–400-meter altitude, with the vineyards facing southwest. The vines thrive in medium-textured soils of Pliocene origin, with Tuff and clayey sands. These perfect terroir conditions, combined with the expert hands of winemakers Christian and Luigi, result in alluring, unique, and powerful wines.
The estate is ridiculously beautiful, a place that seems to be the set of a medieval time movie. Talosa’s historical cellar dates back to the 16th century. Visiting this place is like stepping back in time. The cellar is built in an underground area between Tarugi Palace and the Sinatti Palace, two of the oldest buildings in the city.

Talosa Mixed Italian Reds $40 = 16.66%
Pairing: We paired this with a grilled veal chop and this wine truly shines. The wine’s bold fruit flavors and subtle oak characteristics complement the richness of the veal enhancing both the wine and the dish.
Appearance: The Talosa Alboreto Nobile di Montepulciano 2019 has a deep, red hue in the glass, hinting at its maturity and complexity. Its legs are slow to form, suggesting a full-bodied character.
Nose: On the nose it is immediately enticing, offering ripe black cherries, plum, and a touch of fig. Subtle notes of leather and tobacco weave through, accompanied by hints of vanilla and toasted oak with an undertone of earthy minerals.
Palate: The palate is rich and robust. The initial impression is of dark fruit—blackberry and cassis—backed by a touch of sweet spice and a hint of cocoa. The tannins are refined and velvety, providing a balance without being overwhelming.
Finish: The finish is long and satisfying, with lingering notes of dried herbs, a hint of leather, and a subtle smokiness that adds complexity. The well-rounded tannins and balanced acidity leave a wonderful aftertaste, inviting another sip.
Overall, this wine is a great example of its region, offering depth, balance, and a lingering finish that pairs well with hearty dishes. I would recommend this wine in the $25 range.
“…lifts up with an enticing bouquet of crushed sweet cherries, mint leaf and hints of freshly split pine. This is silky smooth, with round textures and ripe red and blue fruits guided by juicy acidity. The 2022 lingers on with a resonance of raspberry and spice tapering off gently tannic.” 90 points.
falstaff also tasted the 2022:
89 points. Ruby red with brightening on the rim. Aromas of cherries, ripe raspberries and tomato leaf on the nose. Mouth-filling and fresh on the palate, vivid tannins, which are somewhat drying on the finish. 10/16/23
@kaolis these notes are the 2022 Rosso, not for the Alboreto as mentioned in the highlights… Alboreto thoughts are noted in the previous offer link however
Major critics agree: this is one of the best wineries in Montepulciano and Tuscany year after year. The vino Nobile is better than many Brunellos at $50+ and it scores higher. The Rosso won best quality and value wine in Italy from Gambero Rosso in a country that produces literally tens of thousands of incredible quality and value wines. Can’t praise this winery enough. Stock up. We import these wines twice a year and due to small production, they typically sell out within 90 days.
@Gmartwine I grabbed a 4 pack on your assessment, WS rating, and because I had a fine bottle of 2000 Barolo over the weekend. Also, light on Italian reds.
Does casemates still do heat holds? Certainly interested in this deal, but not if it’s just gonna cook on a UPS or FedEx truck in 100degree Texas weather en route
@abl838abl On this topic I wish they could do general holds (even for an additional fee) until a “ship now” request. Sometimes I know I will be away for a week or two. Because they often don’t ship right away, you don’t know if it will be the next week or a few weeks later (or longer, in the case where a winemaker had to track down a lost truckload).
I pay for the UPS premium thing but they will only hold a week max. So sometimes I don’t order at all if I think it might finally show up while I’m away. (hint: new feature might mean more $orders!)

I got the red label on a previous offer, and it was a solid wine. Too much other red bought in the last couple of months, or I’d be in on this offer.
