Zilch Tempranillo:
Zilch in name, zizzles in taste! Zesty aromaz of strawberries, allspice and black pepper. (Zounds! No zinnia?) Zippy flavorz of blackberry, dark cherry, and provence spices make your mouth zing! Enjoy with zeppole or zabaione, in Zzyzx with a zaftig zoologist and a zany zombie flick. Zowie!
Pair with Spanish Rubbed Ribeye Steak. ‘Nuff Said. OR, if that’s not enough said, try it with a Hamburger with grilled onions and a slice of Manchego. Heck, I’m having it tonight with a bowl of split pea soup.
The Spaniard:
A Rioja-style blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha.
Made at Twisted Oak by Winemakers of Unusual Size, this swashbuckling Calaveras blend is so big you’ll need six fingers to hold the bottle. It’s inconceivable that one could resist these aromas and flavors as big as Fezzik himself. Share it with your special Buttercup, a Gentle Giant, or the entire Kingdom… as you wish.
Pair with meat! If you don’t ever drink this with lamb, you’re not livin’ right! Well-marbled beef by itself, or lean cuts of beef with rich sauces. How about a Spanish Paprika rubbed Ribeye topped with Applewood smoked bacon and Cabrale Spanish Blue? How about it?

We’re often asked what the background of Twisted Oak is, to which we invariably reply, “The Sierra Nevada, of course!” If we are pressed further, we are forced to admit that Twisted Oak Winery is the culmination of a delusion, er, vision by Jeff and Mary Stai. The vision was of a terroir based winery making superior, hand crafted, yummy wines, and then having more Twisted fun than anyone in the industry selling them.
Jeff and Mary found 120 acres just outside Murphys in the Sierra Foothills at nearly 2000 feet elevation. It is there that they planted 10 acres of vineyards in Tempranillo, Grenache, Graciano, and Garnacha to take advantage of the continental Mediterranean soil types and climate. It is on top of this property, with an amazing view of the Sierras, where the state-of-the-art, no-pumpover, four-level gravity flow winery was built. When completed in 2004 it included open tank, stainless steel fermenters along with our own 300-foot barrel cave. This is all under the watchful eye of a 350 year old California Blue Oak tree that not only is our namesake, but also adorns every Twisted Oak bottle.
We specialize in wines that are a little different, made from Tempranillo, Grenache, Mourvedre, Viognier, and more! We’re serious about making the stuff, but once the wine is in the bottle, the fun begins!

@cbrehman Our benchmark on The Spaniard is probably the 2005, and it’s still growing and talking to us. I may be different from other vintners when I say that it is never a mistake to drink these wines now - you spend a little time with them, let them open up, and they will speak. That said, every Spaniard we have ever made has been amazing well past 10 years from vintage.
The Zilch on the other hand is a much newer wine for us so we don’t have the same history. The Toro Tempranillo is also a wild card, which adds so much complexity. You won’t be sad opening it now and letting it breathe. But I can’t imagine that 10 years from vintage won’t be even better.
Gribblesnarf. I’ve been really good, even though there have been some really intriguing offers (well done, @Winedavid49, btw). This one, however, will get me going. Now, where is that coupon code…
@marla25 Can I help you find a UPS access point across the border in VA? You can email me at tastingroom@twistedoak.com if you want or we can do this here. Just need your zip code and I’ll find a few as close as possible.
@eljefetwisted If I were in the southern bit of the state, I’d say it’s a no-brainer. Unfortunately, being in Baltimore, means it’s like a 90 minute hike to DC/VA. On a good day. Because DC area traffic blows unless it’s 3 AM.
@marla25 Yeah I hear you. If you want to drop me a note at tastingroom@twistedoak.com I’ll reach out once we get our MD licensing squared away, which hopefully will be soon.
@noodles TO is an autobuy for me, I grabbed a case last night. I might part with a few but won’t mind keeping it all, I’ll see what my co workers think, I’ve been splitting some offers locally too. I can send you a one use coupon code for $10 off if you want to order some yourself? Going to open a 2013 Spaniard tonight, I have 3 and haven’t tried it yet. I got some 2009 Zilch in a mystery box, it was very good, I’m sure the 2014 is great. I have no willpower when it comes to Twisted Oak, resistance is futile!
@catcoland Ugh. I want 4 or 6. Lets see if @ddeuddeg wants to split a case with me. Otherwise, would you mind parting with 4? I’m hoping that ddeuddeg will order the case since the two of you have free shipping.
@noodles@Seeds As a remote party pack recipient I got a code good for 10 uses, once per account that is meant to be shared and encourage new folks to sign up.
@catcoland@noodles I’m away at a conference, but I’ll order a case, and we can arrange a 50-50 split. I’ll order it soon, so we don’t get shut out. This is really terrific stuff, on a lot of autobuy lists.
@Seeds Can’t tell for sure what you mean is cool. If you mean the party pack code, LW and I have a bunch of those to share. Please don’t hesitate to chime in on any interest you may have in splitting a case order. It’s been working out very well so far for @catcoland, @noodles, and me. As @chipgreen like to point out, the savings is typically considerable when buying a case instead of 3 orders of 4. And @catcoland and I have free shipping, which adds to the savings.
@ddeuddeg I just meant that it’s neat that they gave out codes for sharing to people who got the party packs- I had no idea. Splitting a case is something I’m probably going to do with someone eventually, but unfortunately I don’t think I’m near you.
You can’t go wrong with TO. One of only two wine clubs we belong to. If Murphy’s wasn’t such a long drive we’d probably have a Cave Loot stop or two by now. In for a four pack!
@javadrinker Well done
I’m still on the fence. Love the wine, don’t love the overflowing storage or the potential wrath that might come along with newly delivered boxes of wine.
Can’t resist Twisted Oak. Love the Spaniard and very interested in the Tempranillo. In for a case and an upcoming project to find a way to store more wine at the house.
@etheltheflog
“Could it be that, once again, you are angry about something else and are looking to take it out on me?” That movie quote is a must use in any relationship. It has calmed many a storm.
So glad to see El Jefe here!
For “research” purposes, I opened my 2007 Spaniard.
I took it out of the wine fridge, which is set at 58 degrees, and poured a glass using my venturi. Initial impressions yummmmmm! Faint Aromas of dried cherries,
Taste -very smooth, well balanced, not picking up much fruit profile… can’t really describe the flavor, except for yummmm. Will see how it evolves.
In for 4, unfortunately I can’t get a case,
El Jefe, hope this is a fist of many offers! Just space them out so I can afford them!
Holy Moly…my favourite wines are born in Spain but these Californians know how to emulate those Mediterranean marvels very well. I was waiting for Javier Bardem to pop out of the bottle like a Genie, then I would have to ask Dave for a free pass and ravish the irresistible Spaniard.

Dammit. I’ve been good, lately, not ordering wine when I already have so much. Oh, well. Four bottles, headed to my house…
I’m sure I’ll be ordering this. Can’t pass up an El Jefe offer.
@CorTot whole case? I’d take 4-6 if available.
@CorTot agreed this is super tempting. I’ve got some 13 Spaniard already, but not this temp. Decisions, decisions…
@merrybill I’ll order, its a 3 way split between you me and Kyle.
@CorTot
/giphy salty-fearful-vanilla
I’ve got no '14 Spaniard in the cellar.
Interest in a case split…
@rjquillin If I’m reading this right its the 2013 Spaniard Vintage on this offer - not the 2014… Not that you should let that stop you!
@rjquillin If I recall correctly you’re also SoCal. I’m definitely interested in a case split. I’m down for 4 to 6 bottles.
@lindylouwho right you are. Guess the eyes and brain weren’t up to it after getting up at 04:15 after 5 hours sleep to make a flight.
@rjquillin With my apologies, I broke down and used my last VMP coupon on a 4 pack.
Certainly don’t need it but Twisted is to good to pass up so… in for a case.

@rainybank ? @iqueal ? @hey_zues? Would love to do a 3 way split so everyone gets 2 bottles of each.
@iqueal @Hey_Zues ordering now!
@iqueal @MSUMike I’m out for this. I have an overflow of wine right now.

Well crap, no Maryland.
Or Pennsylvania
@eljefetwisted any work around?
@marla25 Ditto. Am interested if we can find a work around for MD.
@marla25 Can I help you find a UPS access point across the border in VA? You can email me at tastingroom@twistedoak.com if you want or we can do this here. Just need your zip code and I’ll find a few as close as possible.
@jonijax Same for you, except we also have Ohio and NY as possibilities. Let me know your zip, or which way you want to go.

@catcoland @noodles if you’re talking about the code from the kickstarter, that’s tied to your account so other people won’t be able to use it.
@noodles See what you find out, I may be obligated to split locally, keep me posted.

Dumb question. the graphics people are posting from their purchase…how do I do that?
@mommadeb just type slash (/) giphy followed by the name of your order
Start the slash (/) giphy . . . On its own line and it should work. Good luck!
@sammypedram thanks… It worked
@mommadeb also, if you want just a random stationary image, rather than a random gif, start a new line with /image, then a space, then your text.
Once you start a new line with a slash, you should see a dropdown showing those options.
/8ball Will that be helpful?
Most likely
