2018 Ty Caton Vineyards Estate Ty’s Red, Moon Mountain District, Sonoma Valley
Tasting Notes
With savory aromas and a deep luscious color, this much-loved wine strokes your palate with flavors of dark cherry, blackberry, and cassis. The thick velvety texture gives way to toasty oak and finishes with just a hint of chocolate.

As we used to say on the old site, “Ty is an auto-buy” and it still holds true. If you have the space and the funds, buy this wine. If you don’t have the space or funds, buy this anyway.
Night one - Dark fruit for days, plum, black cherry, blackberry, and prune. Tight tannins and a super pleasant, well integrated oak. So smooth and easy drinking.
Night two - Even better. The tannins have loosened their grip but are still there. Fruit is even more pronounced and this wine is just great. Love it.
@kevo152 I’m currently in the “no space” category and can’t resist. It’s almost as hard as leaving some in the bottle for the second day. It is sooo good the second day.
I used to buy this wine on the old site as it was Ty’s value wine and always great. The price has crept up and moved itself out of the compulsory buy range. But I guess I have to factor in inflation.
@CorTot I am so ancient, his field blend hooked me on the old site. That wine was absolutely amazing. It was as good, if not better, than TyTanium for that vintage.
Since then his prices have crept up for sure, but I lost a little interest when he started sourcing grapes from wherever still labeling it as Ty Caton. Glad to see these are his actual estate grapes, but his popularity led to increased production, prices, and not necessarily quality.
Still appreciate him, but he is far from an auto-buy these days.
@CorTot@KNmeh7 the 2003 cab got me hooked. Two of my first buy one the site that shall not be named were that and a Corison. Drank them without realizing what it was really

With 15.1% alcohol I’m looking forward to hearing from the rats. Especially about acidity and heat/bitterness.
@klezman Caton wines tend to be a little higher alc but are very balanced without that heat or bitterness
This was just offered here in August. Same price. Discussion and rats:

@CorTot @KNmeh7 Love to see a TyTanium offer here. I’m not sure Ty still makes those?
@CorTot @foxrunner @KNmeh7 he does. $80 retail now, though.

@CorTot @KNmeh7 @rmm989 We didn’t realize how good we had it. Or at least, some of us newbies didn’t.
Happy birthday Mom!
