Noceto’s Rosso is a predominantly Sangiovese blend sourced from vineyards throughout the central coast and northern California. Made in a food-friendly Chianti style, this is a simple, easy-drinking go-to for an everyday red that will go with everything on your plate.
NV Rosso opens with a nose of cherry-berry, fruit roll-up, and cedar. Secondary flavors include bright cherry, cassis, leather, minerality, and balanced acid. Exceptionally food-friendly, you can pair it with anything you have on your plate - from charcuterie to Barese ragù or Korma!
Vineyards
Grapes were sourced from multiple vineyards ranging from the central coast (Brutocao) through northern California (Noceto and Sidney Davis). In addition to Sangiovese, we also selected Sagrantino, Alicante Bouschet, and Canaiolo Nero. Each lot is harvested and fermented separately prior to selective blending.
Winemaking
2022 was a challenging year due to frost and a late-season heat wave. It really pushed winemaker Rusty Folena to take into account that every vineyard was different and that he had to adjust his winemaking to those vineyards. “That’s why there is no recipe,” says Rusty. The fruit was cold-soaked for 24 hours, then fermented in a combination of stainless steel, bins, and French oak (depending on the vineyard) for 7-10 days at 70°-85° Fahrenheit to preserve bright varietal characteristics. The wine is aged in 130-gallon, predominantly French oak puncheons to soften youthful tannins.

6x NV Vino Noceto Rosso Sangiovese di California Case:
Vino Noceto has been making “California’s Best Sangiovese” for over 25 years. Located in beautiful Amador County, we now make eight different Sangioveses as well as an Old Vine Zinfandel, a slightly sparkling Moscato called Frivolo, Barbera, a Tuscan Red Blend, Pinot Grigio, and more!
On their nearly forty acres, they now have twenty-five acres of grapes, almost all Sangiovese, five acres of olive trees, 200 lilac bushes, and two acres of walnut trees, each contributing revenue to the farm. Buildings include their 1887 renovated ranch house, winery and tasting room buildings, and several rustic barns and outbuildings. From only 110 cases of Sangiovese in its inaugural 1990 vintage, the winery now produces 8,000 cases of wine annually. This includes 5,000 cases of nine different Sangioveses, 1,500 cases of a lively Moscato blend called Frivolo, plus an old vine Zinfandel from the Original Grandpere Vineyard, Barbera, Aglianico, and Pinot Grigio. Then there’s always some grappa when you’re needing a nightcap – but that’s another story!
Why Noceto? Noceto means walnut grove in Italian, and walnuts were a staple crop for the farm where the Noceto estate now stands. Noceto, Italy, near Parma, is the sister city of Suzy’s native town of Walnut Creek. Plus, the name is short, simple, and easily said, if not necessarily properly pronounced!

Had this for Mothers Day posted in the “what are you drinking” thread. My comments then:
“Lunch at our local Italian BYO. This NV Noceto was an excellent table wine and accompaniment for the meal. It blows grocery store wines out of the water and at half the cost.”
@hscottk@rjquillin I was wondering how they compare as I also liked the 2020 from the mixed case but at the price point & it’s Noceto I got a case…worst case I’ll use for cooking but I’m sure it won’t come to that lol
@dawnlac@rjquillin This was part of the mixed offering in February. I have to believe it’s the same bottling. I also had the Rosso from the 2018 offer with AX-1. That was a different bottle design (no owl).
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?

NV Vino Noceto Rosso - $20 = 19.99%
I’m grateful to be picked as a rat again. Pop and pour to a nice ruby color, opened with bright, fruit note with strawberry leading the charge. Initially, it showed a bit of harshness, likely due to my apartment being over 70°, so I put in the fridge while I cooked dinner.
With some air and a more reasonable temp, the wine opened up a really enjoyable light and fruity forward wine. It paired well with a bowl of sausage and cheese tortellini.
This is almost certainly the best sub $10 wine I’ve had. It’s light, tasty and punches well above what you usually find at that price point.
Very jealous of anyone who gets to take advantage of this. My whole apartment is stuffed with wine; I can’t use my office for shipping anymore; and I just sent the mystery case to my parents.
The wine lab rat email, always welcome but never expected, arrived while I was in Spain! But a quick UPS redirect and I was able to snag this wine from the local UPS after my return, the afternoon before the offer went up, in the nick of time to report back. Close one! But always honored to be picked as a rat.
It was warm from the UPS delivery walk around, so i refrigerated it briefly to get it to a preferred 60 or so. It’s a California Sangiovese, not something I frequently pick up. I had no idea the price point/how fancy it was, and I didn’t look it up.
My impression overall was that it was a light garnet/ruby color, light-ish after it opened up a bit in terms of body. I felt this would have been excellent with some pasta or a similar type of dinner as a “daily-drinker” type wine. This is the kind of thing I’d run across the street to the wine shop for on a Tuesday for 16-20 bucks. To see the price point today, I would say this is an excellent deal. It’s not my favorite kind of wine, but I felt it was solid and at this price, good QPR.
Just enjoyed this wine with grilled salmon and spinach with white beans. The Commissioner reports that she liked it alone and with food and I’d have to agree . Nothing special. But a very nice, well balanced everyday drinker especially as the summer approaches.
Can’t imagine finding a wine at this price point that is anywhere close. It was at about 65 degrees. Might benefit form a cooler temp.
Part 2. Not sure if its inappropriate to post this here, but my mystery case arrived today. Winesmith Grenache, T.O Torcido and a couple of nice (I think) Cali Pinots.
A potpourri of what i think are $15ish wines and a Casemates 2020 Bottled Cheer. But wait! From the way back machine a bottle of 2012 WOOT CELLARS Help Yourself!
How to Wine Friends and Influence Palates. A Cab sauv from Broken Earth Winery. Should be interesting.

Buy with confidence!

@hscottk
Likely a different NV release from this offer I’d assume?

@dawnlac @hscottk @rjquillin It is the same bottle per winery notes on that Feb offer
@hscottk @rjquillin this bottle pictured above IS the one in this offer. This is the fourth rendition of Rosso. - Anamieke (Vino Noceto)

@jermfish thank you! This wine definitely opens up beautifully, in my opinion, and is solid for that price point.
I love the new label, and what a screaming deal! If only I weren’t already swimming in daily drinkers…

Very fitting, in that I have a partner who eats practically no cheese.
