Since this is a 375ml bottle, and perfectly sized for a weeknight sip, I’m writing my tasting notes from a “weeknight sipper” perspective.
On the pop and pour, I’m getting red fruit aromas (mostly cherry) with a little bit of green herbs (parsley and grass). Alcohol is present, but not a deluge. On the first taste – wow! There’s a lot happening in a short sip. There’s a lot of dust, along with some tobacco and a hint of cedar. Maybe a little bit of toasted caramel as well. Yes, there is a significant cherry fruit component on the roof of the month. But there are so many other flavors happening that you’re not smacked by the fruit. Little bits of fruity components, with pops of some spice, some woody notes, and maybe a tiny hint of floral essence. All wrapped in a fairly tannic profile. Finish is moderate, consistent with what I’d expect from a Sangiovese. Legs are present, but not lingering. Also what I’d expect from a Sangiovese.
Overall, the body is light enough that I would certainly pair this with a grilled chicken or pork. It also is a natural with most Italian food that I can think of. Makes me wish I had some Italian leftovers for dinner tonight.
This is a cozy bottle to share with your sweetie on a work night. Or a tasty treat for one after a hella-long day and with no small ones needing close supervision. I’m saddened that I live in Virginia and won’t be able to take advantage of this offer.
One of my favorite wineries in Amador County. This winery happens to be my neighbor and their winemaker, Rusty Folena worked with me as assistant winemaker for 16 years. Can’t go wrong on this deal.
Cheers,
Scott Harvey
I literally just finished a bottle of this wine tonight! Delightful. Smooth. Some red fruit, subtle tannins. Better on days one and two than day three . . .
No Virginia! It is my great hope that it is a mistake, that will soon be fixed. Virginia was on every offer last year (including Vino Noceto!), but this year has been left off a few. We were getting spoiled.
@PatrickKarcher Second! I thought casemates bugged my house with this offer. Patrick and I swapped a case last week talking about Noceto being an autobuy, but alas.
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?
(Note: Tax & Shipping not included in savings calculations)
2015 Vino Noceto Sangiovese 375ml Bottles - $40 = 22.21%
I have been very happy with the Noceto offerings in the past.
I have never purchased 375 ml bottles except for ports and dessert wines. What are the advantages of the smaller format other than being able to carry a bottle in my pocket in case of emergencies? These could be pretty nice to carry in my backpack on Fall hikes!
@mrn1 Some evenings my wife and I want just a little wine (or just a little more), but the next evening or two she or I work late, and we’re not sure the remainder of the bottle will last 2 nights.
My sister enjoys wine greatly, but her husband is a beer man, and sometimes she hesitates on opening the full bottle, worrying if it will get finished. Another friend of mine loves alcohol, wife doesn’t drink, enter the 375.
And hiking, yes! This will definitely be accompanying my wife and I on some hikes. A few trips I’ve been on, this would have been handy.
This will also give you a steady stream of leftover 375 mL bottles, very handy for saving half a bottle of another wine. You pour the remaining half the other wine in a 375mL bottle, cork, and it will last longer in the fridge. Less surface area hitting oxygen.
@Boatman72@chipgreen@marikar@mehnyblooms@mrn1@PatrickKarcher The wine is great. I could deal with some small bottles but couldn’t take too many rolling around the basement. I would be good for 3, or is it 6 or 9 here? Casemates math is getting harder.
@Boatman72@marikar@mehnyblooms@mrn1@pjmartin
Darn, I am never on at the right time anymore. I almost grabbed a case this morning at 6:30 am but decided to wait until this evening to see if there was any NE OH activity. I am in for a case as well. If anyone wants some extras please let me know as I don’t really need a 24-pack!
@jml326@winesnob
If you subscribe to the case savings vs. Smaller allotment thread, you will get more timely emails. I dont always update it right at midnight but I usually do so by rhe following morning at the latest, which is still 12 hrs earlier than the casemates email goes out.
@chipgreen@dmers@jml326@winesnob
Just remember to thank chipgreen for his assiduous work on maintaining that thread! He’s not staff or compensated for this work - it’s one of the many community-led efforts that make CM a worthy successor to wine.woot. (And don’t yell at him if he decides to go to sleep before midnight some nights!)
@chipgreen@klezman Yes, thank you very much chipgreen - it is much appreciated! (I assume moreso by those of us who can’t be bothered to check the website every other day but would like to learn about the offers when they begin)
@chipgreen@dmers@klezman Sometimes I come across a wine or winery and think “Wasn’t this on Casemates a while back?”. Having to search through all of the main thread titles can be tedious (as you have to keep scrolling down in order for them to load). But opening the “Case Savings” thread and searching is much easier (and once you know the date of the offer it is much easier to find the associated thread). It is a wonderful concise history of the wines that have been offered.
@dmers@jml326@klezman@winesnob
Heh… falling asleep early more often than not lately. Thanks for the kind words. One caveat - since Friday deals are one day only, Casemates sends out an email right away for them. That is the one instance in which the official “New Offer” email will arrive before the other one.
Not sure what happened, but the email did not hit my inbox until 5 hours ago. How am I seeing comments from 13 hours ago. Is there time travel involved.
@gman1341 The sale started at midnight Wednesday, as you can see in the discussion. The emails don’t go out until 24 hours after the sale starts (except for Friday sales). If you don’t check the sale until you get the email nudge, you run the risk of missing out on the sale entirely.
As was posted above, new sales start on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, at midnight Eastern.
@gman1341 Not a big fan of the emails not coming out until much later (I’ve asked) but the solution from chipgreen a few comments up seems like that will be helpful in receiving a notification earlier.
@dmers@gman1341 i mean, its the same time, week after week after week. Same days, same time. Forget the email and check the website every monday, wednesday, friday and saturday. Takes leas than a minute. No need for hand holding.
"Among the pioneers who introduced Sangiovese to the New World, the Gullett family is renowned for making “California’s Best Sangiovese.” In 1985, they set out with the singular goal of making Vino Noceto California’s premiere Sangiovese producer. From just three producing acres and 110 cases in their inaugural 1990 vintage, they now farm over 25 acres and produce 10,000 cases per year, including ten different Sangioveses, a frizzante Moscato, an old vine Zinfandel, Barbera, and Pinot Grigio.
Noceto’s flagship Sangiovese is modeled after an Old World Tuscan Chianti—medium bodied, beautiful acidity, fruit-packed, easy-drinking, well-balanced, and extremely versatile with food. This wine is widely regarded as “the best Sangiovese in California.” (Dan Berger, Darrell Corti, Mike Dunne, Elaine Taylor). 2015 marks Noceto’s 26th vintage.
The 2015 Noceto Sangiovese displays moderate ruby hues with red cherry-berry fruit aromas and bright flavors of cassis, cranberry, and rich plum. The palate is accented by subtle oak and hints of peppery spice."
Vintage and Winemaker Notes
The fruit is cold-soaked prior to fermentation in stainless steel, bin, and oak fermenters for 7 to 10 days at 70°-85° Fahrenheit to preserve bright varietal characteristics. The wine ages 15 months in 130-gallon French oak puncheons to soften youthful tannins and gently age the wine—15% to 20% new oak.

Vino Noceto has been making “California’s Best Sangiovese” for over 25 years. Located in beautiful Amador County, we now make eight different Sangioveses as well as an Old Vine Zinfandel, a slightly sparkling Moscato called Frivolo, Barbera, a Tuscan Red Blend, Pinot Grigio, and more!
Why Noceto? Noceto means walnut grove in Italian, and walnuts were a staple crop for the farm where the Noceto estate now stands. Noceto, Italy, near Parma, is the sister city of Suzy’s native town of Walnut Creek. Plus the name is short, simple, and easily said if not necessarily properly pronounced!

No delivery to South Dakota, but I will gladly split a case ( half, or a third) with any of the Minnesota gang, and pick it up on one of my monthly trips up North. I can’t access Casemates from work unfortunately, so I won’t be able to post here for about 12 hours, but this stuff is good.
@LindyatNoceto said on last year’s mixed case offer that this wine (in 750ml) was good 'til 2035 probably. I hear tell that 375’s develop quicker. These will develop until . . . 2025? Good 'til 2030?
Looks like the case is sold out. I guess it saves me from having to finding a place for yet another box of wine. I keep telling myself the holidays are coming.
Ah great, they are back. At least the little bottles are a wee bit easier to hide from hubby. They stuff easy into closets until they stuff into stockings. Or glasses.
If any SoCal or SD folks picked up some (and want to offload a few) i’d like to get my hands on them. I just don’t need them bad enough to justify the 12 or 24.
We picked up the mixed case a while back and still had 1 bottle of 15 Sangiovese. Which is now opened and being enjoyed- and confirmed that we’re in yet again.

I’m not going to dance around it… I love this deal! Really enjoyed the ‘15 at an Italian BYO. Now the remaining bottle won’t be lonely.

Nice deal!
OK I’m in; wait do I need to add a “baby nursery section” on my wine rack for them ?? plump-jellied-tooth

@coynedj Well, I went ahead and ordered a case to be delivered to one of my kids in Minnesota. Still up for a split, if anyone is interested.

Ah great, they are back. At least the little bottles are a wee bit easier to hide from hubby. They stuff easy into closets until they stuff into stockings. Or glasses.
I never had wee bottles. They do have normal sized corks, right? Probably a stupid question.
@hanuta44 Yes normal size corks.

Sadly, I have to report that at 4:30 CDT today, I received a surprise UPS 2-day rattage bottle.
I am hoping that my abbreviated tasting post of the prior 750ml bottle was influential enough to cause the Wednesday crowd (including me) to buy up.
Updated rattage: the 375ml bottle is really cute.
