I brought 1/2 case of Monkey Prize to my sister-in-law’s wedding reception. It was well-liked. Unfortunately her husband was not, so they weren’t together very long. wines hold up over time way better than marriages.
D’ontspille is (someone has to have one around) one of the best Pinot Noirs I have purchased. I know my parents still have some bottles of the other offerings.
@Drez143@drgonzo99 It was a pinot noir with a wellington cellars designation which I thought Peter said David noyes? Consulted on the project because wellington doesn’t really do pinot or some reason. It was lovely. Looked it up and I ordered in December of 2010. The time… Flying by.
Still have a couple of bottles of Bonus Level somewhere. In the current wine market, perhaps WD will have opportunities to partner with wineries and bring us more Casemates Cellars wines!
@ttboy23
Oh they are definitely holding up well. Certainly no rush to drink 'em and they’ll likely continue to improve & evolve with more age, however, they are still very enjoyable currently.
@davirom@jmdavidson1@SS@winedavid49
and the ‘first sucker’ acknowledgement as well.
Now, if only I could remember the handle of the guy in Florida that nabbed many many of those.
@Rockhawks1 About the same time. Monticello Vineyards Presidential Red and Wellington were the first couple wine.woots if I recall correctly. That was before inventory management software.
@msten@Rockhawks1
I was a late bloomer. I was on Woot! in 2005 but didn’t start buying wine until 2008. My first wine purchase was the “Epiphany Spring Trio”. Larry Tercero was involved, IIRC.
@msten If I remember correctly (which is a big IF considering my wine.woot order history) Rinfrescane was actually first offered on woot.com before wine.woot was a thing. Wine.woot Started in 2006 I believe!
@msten@Rockhawks1@Winedavid59 WineDavid will have the records, but I think the first wine.woot offering was a 4 pack of 2000 St. Supéry Merlot and Cabernet.
Which JavaDrinker and I shared with Lillith when she was visiting from Texas in what may have been the first proto-Gathering.
Woot Cellar was the first (of many) times I purchased alcohol online, and then discovered that there was no markings of the contents being alcohol when shipped.
I thought it was weird, but realized you could be under 21 to purchase alcohol as all you needed was a credit card and a mailing address. They simply left the box on the porch like all other packages.
It took a few years before they began putting “alcohol” on the box, and at least for me here in NY, it wasn’t until a few years ago that I actually had to show my ID for them to deliver the package.
@kawichris650@msten
I wish I did, but I don’t, not from the WW days. There were some amazing SS’s early on costing out the offers when they were multiple days long. It was a bit later when I became more involved. I’m thinking Cheron was a part of those, but @MarcDaSpark may be able to flesh out some of that early history. Really is a shame those threads didn’t live beyond the octopus acquisition.
I’ve still got a good number of Woot Cellars wines around also. Some Adequate Gift, Blitzen, EHPv2, Bonus Level, Large Bold Text, Vinito and Vinitwo del Finito, and lots of Revelry. Great stuff…I wish the CM-labelled stuff was as good in the bottle and as funny on the label.

@pmarin Hah, i remember that story!
D’ontspille is (someone has to have one around) one of the best Pinot Noirs I have purchased. I know my parents still have some bottles of the other offerings.
@KNmeh7 Ahhh… D’ontspille Le Black. My favorite Woot Cellars, out of many. Those were the days.
@drgonzo99 @KNmeh7 that one was a Pedroncelli petite sirah if memory serves me right. One of my all time favs of the woot offerings

@Drez143
I believe you are thinking of Bonus Level.
@kawichris650 whoops, yes I was!
Still have a couple of bottles of Bonus Level somewhere. In the current wine market, perhaps WD will have opportunities to partner with wineries and bring us more Casemates Cellars wines!
@hscottk one or two Bonus Level’s here. I wonder if they are holding up. Something to work on soon
@ttboy23
Oh they are definitely holding up well. Certainly no rush to drink 'em and they’ll likely continue to improve & evolve with more age, however, they are still very enjoyable currently.
@kawichris650 also located two of the “Large Bold Text”
and 1 “Mistletoe “
One Revelry remains. A few of those offers had impressive one day sales volumes IIRC. Clever names, 2005 Toothstejnn and 2008 Triacipedis.
@msten
I’ve got two bottles of Revelry left in a box I just (re)discovered. I thought I might have had a Large Bold Text as well, but alas, no.
@msten Have a bottle of 1 Revelry in the chiller in 2 different States. Still delicious a year ago.
I am sitting on 5 cases of woot wines.
@chipgreen Party at Chip’s!!
@davirom
Woot! Woot!
@chipgreen Is that 3% of inventory?
@msten
Not even…
Fond memories of Phat Goose. Good weeknight wine and the label was hilarious.
@roncunningham
The promo video was a little disturbing.
Whenever I see the Cheez-Itz ad with the guy sliding down the snow covered mountain, I think of Fat Gus!
That was a nice GSM blend. I have 1 bottle left of that one.
@chipgreen @roncunningham LOL
Made it an auto buy for my house, don’t have any at this point though.
Yeah, I’ve got a few.
Drink 'em…nah…
As long as we’re reminiscing, I would like to see the return of the bouncing buy button as a sellout approaches.
@davirom
Agreed
And purely because I know others are thinking it…
Fedex as a shipping option?
(I know, I know… that will only happen when pigs fly.)
@davirom I agree as well. That way I knew I needed to get off me @SS and make a decision.
@davirom @jmdavidson1 @SS @winedavid49
and the ‘first sucker’ acknowledgement as well.
Now, if only I could remember the handle of the guy in Florida that nabbed many many of those.
@davirom @jmdavidson1 @rjquillin @SS @Winedavid49 Mill?
@davirom @hscottk @rjquillin @SS @Winedavid49 Yes. Good memory.
@davirom @hscottk @jmdavidson1 @rjquillin @SS @Winedavid49 good call!
Think my best score was the 3L bottle of 2007 Geyser Peak Meritage.
The journey began Nov 8, 2005 with a half case of Rinfrescante. I think I still have a bottle hiding somewhere of this!
@Rockhawks1 About the same time. Monticello Vineyards Presidential Red and Wellington were the first couple wine.woots if I recall correctly. That was before inventory management software.

@msten @Rockhawks1 Correct. May of 2006 in Beta.
@msten @Rockhawks1 @Winedavid59
So that would have been @WineDavid39?
@msten @rjquillin @Rockhawks1 hah, yes indeed.
@msten @Rockhawks1 @Winedavid59 WineDavid will have the records, but I think the first wine.woot offering was a 4 pack of 2000 St. Supéry Merlot and Cabernet.
Which JavaDrinker and I shared with Lillith when she was visiting from Texas in what may have been the first proto-Gathering.
I was “around” from its launch, but I was under 21 and also broke, but I did buy a ball of cheese from there once.

So, is the current offer a COC? Case of Crap?
@davirom not a bad idea!
I wouldn’t mind a super dusty (non-port) of Wellington now and again. I’d take my chances.
Might there be a list of some of the early offerings with prices?
@msten
I thought I remember there being a Google Docs spreadsheet. Perhaps @rjquillin has more info.
@kawichris650 @msten

Indeed, a lot of really good threads were lost.

@klezman @winedavid49
Yes, this.
And it’s not like meh doesn’t have talented artists and copy writers to draw from
