@ctmariner $37?! I did the same with the 2008 for $53 for the 6-pack.
I had a couple bottles of the 2008 from Garagiste a few years ago and quite liked it. And based on the 2009 I’m very happy to have more of the 2008. Wind Gap is the best producer I only heard about after they shut down that part of the operation - unfortunately Pax’s main label is way more expensive for what’s essentially the same wine now.
Working on the 2016 Virage Rose we opened a few nights ago, and then with a rack of lamb I decided to pop a 2006 Malvira’ Roero Renesio Riserva. A bit more than 2 years since we had it at the last pre-covid gathering, so this should be good!
@rjquillin Yes and yes, but not a rush to drink up.
Don’t see any upside to not drinking up but my 2 remaining will probably not be drank till this fall and next winter. Still has nice dark fruit along with nicely aged characteristics. Long finish.
This is off wine topic, but thought I’d share this story. Speaking of the AG sablefish, I met one of their fishermen about a month ago. We were sitting next to each other while on vacation (vacationing separately but ended up at the same bar in Vegas) and randomly struck up a conversation. He mentioned that he was a fisherman in Alaska and then I mentioned getting my fish from AG. Turns out he is one of the fisherman/co-op owners for SPC (AG’s parent company). It really is one hook, one fish. He said to try the black cod tips if the opportunity arose as that was the best part. He also recommended their king salmon. I’ve had both the sablefish and king salmon along with almost all of their other offerings; delicious, but never have tried the tips so that will be next. Just thought it was cool to actually meet one of the coop fisherman who they mention on their site. Really nice guy. I think @winedavid49 brought them to gourmet.woot and since late 2019/early 2020, I’ve been hooked (ha, pun intended) and have been ordering regularly. Great fish. I think you said the Flannery/Morgan Ranch of seafood. I agree. And now that I’ve met an actual fisherman for them, I like them even more.
Wow, great story. We did use the recipe on their site for this evening.
Also purchased a $1000 gift cert recently when they were, what, 15% off, despite still having a $500 credit. Just wait now for additional sale discounts to redeem them.
swmbo really likes all of them, but the expense remains obscured to keep peace.
Between them, Flannery, Morgan and Jasper Hill, I’m a bit tapped out at the moment…
I have a few hundred in gift certs as well and am using the same strategy. Loaded up during their percentage off. They also ran a food pantry promo for 100 credit for 100 donation to any pantry of your choice. I always make a donation around the holidays since my company does a special matching at Thanksgiving. I thought that was really nice that they were helping to support the pantries around the country while offering a little something to their customers. It really is a good company to which you introduced us @winedavid49. Thank you. I wish you could get more offers with them like you had a few years ago. They were fantastic.
I’m with you on the food shipments, but with BD coming up, I’ve saved a little for the Ventresca that will make its way to my home once again thanks to @ScottW58.
@klezman@rjquillin oye, this is why I dropped Underground cellars.
If I want this kinda stuff I would buy up bottles I usually pass on at GO. The other 1/2 of the bottle went down the drain. I’ll pick something better tonight.
@kawichris650 it’s good. It’s strong and fruity, lots of heavy red fruit. We were pairing with some roasted veggies and strong cheese (manchego and truffle brie) and this worked fantastic. Never seemed “hot” even at the 15.2%
@hscottk their website only shows the 2020 Isa which is odd. There was also a dump of a few wines into the last bottle marathons of the last couple years. Maybe they couldn’t keep the momentum going. But I hope not I really enjoy their wines and was buying the last 5 years are so.
@CorTot@rjquillin Unfortunately, I missed all the LB deals but still have a few reds and whites from BDs past. I just noticed we’ve seen nothing post 2016 for reds or whites which is a shame. It looks like he’s just making the rosè these days and dumping the remaining inventory. Might need to load up this BD, if he’s even doing it this year.
