@yorkrk Great! Last time we were through that area it was for apple picking a few months ago, and it surprised me how many tasting rooms were along the 78.
2016 Folie a Deux Cabernet, Alexander Valley.
Don’t know where I got it or when, but it’s Monday.
Surprisingly good @ Pop-N-Pour. A little sweet,
but good.
Checked cellartracker, and at $15, it’s a great
Monday night wine.
2013 Clayhouse Cabernet Sauvignon (from April, 2018 purchase). I’m thinking that this was a great value at A$11.25/bottle and 6 bottles (of the 9 I ended up with) to go.
@rjquillin I thought is was good. I didn’t take formal notes though. I have 2-3 more I think. They came from Bevmo as part of their 5 cent sale, roughly at $15 each. Bevmo isnt known for quality juice in the 5 cent sale but it stuck out as a known producer and single vineyard so I grabbed a coupon and went on down to the ol’ bevmo.
Last night I had a kitchen sink blend-- some of the Wine Smith Norton (which was sound, but to me uninspiring), some '15 Apothic Dark, and a dash of Wine Smith Grenache (which again was sound, but not by itself to my taste; it really gave the blend some nice highlights, though).
Recently I’ve had a couple of really nice bottles: a '12 Coquerel Petite Sirah, and a '12 Laura Michael Dry Creek Zin. If I could drink like that all the time, I’d be supremely satisfied. And I’ve got a '13 Trinitas Old Vine Petite Sirah queued up for tonight.
@klezman It’s been open over a week now, and 5 days since last tasted. Half bottle left and still improving.
Only 3 in CT, but I think I accidentally double ordered and have 6.
I had a wtfn evening.
Went digging in some containers that I had moved to Missouri and came up with a 2002 Dominique Portet Heathcote Cabernet Sauvignon that I had purchased almost 8 years ago, and decided it was time to open it up. Rather enjoyable, as I tend to find Australian wines too much “in your face”.
2012 Robert Storey Cabernet (Reserve)
One of those “Exclusive” 'til sold out wines, I think.
However, on the back of the bottle it says that the winemaker is none other than Ty Caton!
Damn good stuff for the price.
And yes, I do have more.
@klezman Is it worth buying? I’m planning to. I think it will be popular with my wine-sharing colleagues. Whether you’re compelled to buy it probably depends on how much of a completist you are – I’ll leave it at that.
I may not post until the a.m. I’ve been trying to get to bed earlier recently, which if I hold to it will mean I’m not up for the midnight rollover.
@InFrom I’m not a Sparky-style completist that will need it just because it’s a CM-branded wine. I know it will be worth buying, but not if I’m going to feel compelled to. I guess we’ll see!
2017 Scott Harvey Barbera J&S Reserve
2010 Provenance Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard
2001 York Creek Vineyards Merlot
The tartrates and sediment on the York’s corks are things to behold.
Couldn’t wait for RJQ to pick up the bottles we ordered at Adam’s pre baby party so I ordered a couple to be delivered to hold me over, great call on this wine Sparky
@ScottW58
Looks familiar, and CT thinks I have one.
Should I have additional?
Ah, yes. I do remember that, You couldn’t make the order process… but I find no record.
What date? I need to check. WinEx, right?
@radiolysis@ScottW58 Not yet - it literally came yesterday. But I just look stuff up on the internet and saw that for pork belly it’s simple: make a sauce, cook at high pressure for 45-90 min, enjoy. Sear if you like.
Red Schooner, Voyage 4
2009 Glutony
Paringa Sparkling Shiraz
Long Point Sangiovese (WOTN, Finger Lakes)
St. Lawrence Moscato
With: Seafood Bisque, Crab dip, Meatballs and a Giant Whoopie Pie. Life is indeed good.

2007 Amantis Sangio Rsv magnum
2013 Terra di Confine
2015 Casalforno Opera rosso toscano
2016 Boccantino Susumaniello Salento
All served with spaghetti and meatballs
Along with the Oso which was served with apple pie. (Very nice dessert wine)
Tikal Patriota (Malbec-Bonarda blend) of unknown vintage at a restaurant accompanied by Wagyu meatloaf w/ sunnyside up egg & black pepper gravy over toast with a side of root vegetables, followed by pistachio cheesecake.
2010 Windmill Zinfandel
Michael David’s entry level Zin. Less expensive than
Seven Deadly…which Michael David no longer makes.
Excellent: Tasted more like a Syrah than a Zin, but a good Syrah. So, it was a win.
Was making room for the incoming 3.5 Christmas cases and found this bottle with the cork testing the limits of the foil. My heart sank as it was part of the last shipment from the old site, and my last bottle of this year. Happy to say it didn’t go bad despite the leakage around the cork and testing the foils limit.
@tercerowines Cool room temp - mid 60’s. Aromatics are evolving nicely, acid and savoury qualities are nicely balanced. I think as it got more air it would have benefited from a slight chill down to cellar temperature. It sort of “flattened out”, if you know what I mean?
But I do wish you would work with CF again. Quite a nice showing!
Found this in the cellar, haven’t had a Malbec in a while and used to love this producer. Ct says I paid $40 for it and I remember it was really expensive then to me anyways. Starting to show aged characteristics, still a bit tannic but really a great bottle!
@rjquillin@ScottW58 Scott’s stash will be gone shortly, but I’ve got 9 more library bottles. Just get yourself to LA!
But that Trimbach was phenomenal! Thanks, as always, Scott!
2016 Halcon Esquisto. Light to medium bodied with raspberry/strawberry on the nose and palate. Medium to long finish. Got better with several hours in the decanter. These will definitely benefit from a couple of years in the cellar.
Clark’s 2014 Sparkling white Grenache with some reheated potato latkes, watching our candles burn down while enjoying a roaring fire courtesy of the Yule Log show on a local TV station. Happy Hanukkah, merry Christmas y feliz Navidad!
@rjquillin@ScottW58 The 2011 is definitely on the green side, but I suspect it’ll do nicely once it gets to its teenage years. Although I enjoy the ahem complexity that bell pepper and related notes give to wines.
@rjquillin@ScottW58 Certainly the pyrazines are more common in Cab Franc than its son. But when you grew into wine tasting in Niagara when I did, pyrazines were common and well managed. At the right level they add complexity and don’t screw up the wine. The California style it is not.
@klezman@rjquillin@ScottW58
We get that in our Ohio Cab Francs. I enjoy it since I cut my teeth on those wines but agree with Scott in that I don’t expect to find it in a Cab Sauv. Thanks to @winesmith for teaching me about pyrazines!
@losthighwayz
Went first of the listed selections, I didn’t get but a single smallish pour. Nice, quaffable, with less complexity than the '14. The case will not last long (in my time frame).
@chipgreen It was ok/good, didn’t think it was as good as last bottle a year or so ago. Have 2 more, think I will try another in a few weeks, see if it’s my cold or if I just need to drink them up.
@hscottk Was that supposed to cheer me up? Well…it didn’t work! I’ll be home tomorrow, and give Wellington a chance to redeem themselves. Now that will cheer me up.
@CorTot worked down the leftovers on these over the last few nights. The Pedroncelli cab franc was much better today, zero funk, good fruit. Totally surprised by it.
2009 Cedergreen Cellars Thuja. Really nice Columbia Valley blend. From Last Bottle, one of the last things I bought from them before forcing myself to stop their emails so I wouldn’t be tempted. Still, I wish I’d bought more of this.
2008 Qupe Sonnie’s Syrah while watching my CLEMSON TIGERS win a slugfest against the buckeyes. Wine was excellent, smoked meat elements with great dark fruits. Game was quite the spectacle between two great teams.
@rjquillin yes, I was about to text you but foolishly came here first.
Thank you! I hope I can get it all in the car! I do need to confirm the recipients for some.
That Kirkland bubbly from Costco is the real deal, and quite nice QPR at $20. Much better than the last time I tried the Costco bubbly a few years ago.
12/31:
2011 Ramspeck Family Winery Pinot Grigio Sassolini
2010 Derby Wine Estates FIFTEEN10 White
2015 Dennen Vacationer Rosé
N.V. Aneri Prosecco Brut Valdobbiadene Millesimato
2010 Iron Horse Brut X (to ring in the New Year)
2004 Turley Moore Earthquake Vineyard Zinfandel. Should be interesting at 15 years young and 16.3% alcohol.
It’s surprisingly young, lots of fruit, nice complexity, and not overtly alcoholic.
2013 Baker Lane Syrah Estate Vineyard
NV Twisted Oak Cockamamie
Last night was a 2016 Pedroncelli Cabernet Sauvignon.
2107 Petite Sirah from Old Julian Vineyard, Ramona Valley AVA. I’m a bit biased, my brother is the wine maker there, but it’s some pretty good stuff.
@yorkrk I’ll try to swing through there next time we’re in Julian! I’ve heard PS grows well in that area.
@radiolysis Another good source of PS out here is Edwards Vineyards & Winery.
@yorkrk Great! Last time we were through that area it was for apple picking a few months ago, and it surprised me how many tasting rooms were along the 78.
2013 Wellington Cabernet Franc Baron Vineyard. It’s the only Wellington I have with a gold foil.
2016 Folie a Deux Cabernet, Alexander Valley.
Don’t know where I got it or when, but it’s Monday.
Surprisingly good @ Pop-N-Pour. A little sweet,
but good.
Checked cellartracker, and at $15, it’s a great

2015 Château Saint-Roch (Languedoc) Côtes du Roussillon Villages Chimères
2007 Moran Manor Anagram
2013 Aril Syrah Atlas Peak
@CorTot How was the Rosenblum? I keep seeing them offered from, I think TWS sales events, but generally not all that impressed with the notes.
source?
@rjquillin I thought is was good. I didn’t take formal notes though. I have 2-3 more I think. They came from Bevmo as part of their 5 cent sale, roughly at $15 each. Bevmo isnt known for quality juice in the 5 cent sale but it stuck out as a known producer and single vineyard so I grabbed a coupon and went on down to the ol’ bevmo.
@CorTot Not that I need more, but there is a Bevmo nextdoor to the GO I frequent.
2012 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva
@klezman
How is that drinking?
@ScottW58 my first bottle. Quite good. Lots of stuffing for another decade most likely.
@klezman
At least, I just started drinking some 2010’s
@ScottW58 this is my oldest vintage unfortunately
A very nice rosso with burgers.
2007 Boudreaux Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
2013 Pedroncelli Zinfandel Mother Clone Dry Creek Valley
With a corn soup i’m working on.
2010 Tercero Syrah White Hawk Vineyard
The last round of TG turkey for now…
Last night I had a kitchen sink blend-- some of the Wine Smith Norton (which was sound, but to me uninspiring), some '15 Apothic Dark, and a dash of Wine Smith Grenache (which again was sound, but not by itself to my taste; it really gave the blend some nice highlights, though).

2010 Twisted Oak Carignane
2013 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 6
2014 Wind Gap Wines Chardonnay Sonoma Coast
@rjquillin very nice! How is it!
Also, are you feeling ok? It’s less than a decade old!
@klezman It’s been open over a week now, and 5 days since last tasted. Half bottle left and still improving.
Only 3 in CT, but I think I accidentally double ordered and have 6.
I had a wtfn evening.
@rjquillin that 2014 wind gap is really pretty good…
2013 Frisson Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
2016 Scott Harvey Mountain Selection Barbera, Amador County with garlic/tomato bread and pork chop parmigiana.
@karenhynes
hmmm sounds good!
Beer. Really good beer. At a place called Father’s Office for company happy hour.
@klezman that’s the place with the fancy hamburgers, no?
ohhh love Father’s Office! great burgers in fact best burgers in the city imho
@ScottW58 the burgers are good but they’d be better if they used Flannery beef!
@klezman
I thought you didn’t like flannery burgers cause you can’t figure out how too cook them?
@ScottW58 Practice makes perfect
I avoid the really fatty blends because I can’t keep the tasty delicious fat inside the burger though.
Any Chicago peeps been to Capo’s for the feast of 7 fishes pizza?? Notes please
@ScottW58 that’s not a sentence. Fish pizza is about as awful as a pizza can get, let alone 7 fish…
@ScottW58
Feast of seven fishes pizza? Is that a thing?
2013 Wellington Chardonnay, last of these.
@CorTot Clearly you didn’t purchase enough then…
@rjquillin we had plenty. And if you have some there is no need to hold. Its definitely losing freshness.
@CorTot Just losing freshness; any gain in interest?
I’ve had some pretty astounding old chards.
@rjquillin how many of these do you have?
@CorTot @rjquillin I’ve got 3 of 11 remaining.
Ron’s CT says he has 30 remaining.
@CorTot @klezman @rjquillin
Good god!
@CorTot @klezman @ScottW58
And it needs a reduction update.
I’m not known to keep these highly accurate.
@CorTot Also had a '13 Wellington Chard Saturday with rainbow trout almondine. Freshness factor=fine so far. Only a couple more left.
2010 Provenance Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard
Added some of those Holy Grail American Wagyu Tajima Hibachi Steaks to go with the To-Kalon
@PatrickKarcher thanks
Finishing up a whiskey cocktail, then, with home dry aged steak:
2010 Bell Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
OMG!
@ScottW58 Naw, Merlot, age?
Looks like you done well.
@rjquillin I made a mistake I should have taken a second out on my house and bought more
@ScottW58 Well, work got in the way and I got zip from that sale.
Don’t know where I’d have put them anyway.
@rjquillin @ScottW58 when we making an evening out of it?
@ScottW58 Nice! I heard about that sale in the aftermath but didn’t get word of it in time to purchase anything.

@FritzCat interesting, I had no idea.
2013 Peterson Vignobles.
BrewDog Clockwork Tangerine Session IPA
I’m not drinking nothin’ but I am finishing a review of something…
@InFrom The important question is: will I have to buy it?
@klezman Is it worth buying? I’m planning to. I think it will be popular with my wine-sharing colleagues. Whether you’re compelled to buy it probably depends on how much of a completist you are – I’ll leave it at that.
I may not post until the a.m. I’ve been trying to get to bed earlier recently, which if I hold to it will mean I’m not up for the midnight rollover.
@InFrom @klezman You could put it here…
@InFrom I’m not a Sparky-style completist that will need it just because it’s a CM-branded wine. I know it will be worth buying, but not if I’m going to feel compelled to. I guess we’ll see!
Looking at the Clues thread just before coming here, I was thinking, now there’s a completist!
@rjquillin Great idea, thanks for offering. I am going to call it a night.

Not sure what red we’ll open next.
@klezman
Yum instapot DOES pork belly
@klezman @ScottW58 we borrowed an instant pot from a friend and love it. Do either of you have any cookbooks or favorite recipes you’d recommend?
@radiolysis @ScottW58 Not yet - it literally came yesterday. But I just look stuff up on the internet and saw that for pork belly it’s simple: make a sauce, cook at high pressure for 45-90 min, enjoy. Sear if you like.
@klezman @radiolysis @ScottW58
Not an instapot dish, but just made some pork belly and guava soup earlier this week. Took about 90 minutes or so.

2016 @TerceroWines Cabernet Franc abberation
This is phenomenal
@klezman thank you! What temperature did you have it at?
@tercerowines Cool room temp - mid 60’s. Aromatics are evolving nicely, acid and savoury qualities are nicely balanced. I think as it got more air it would have benefited from a slight chill down to cellar temperature. It sort of “flattened out”, if you know what I mean?

That reminds me…@rjquillin did you buy that offering and is there a split? I don’t see it on your spreadsheet.
@klezman @scottw58
I was hoping to hang on to a few more, but I’ll toss 3+3 so you and Scott can draw straws for vintages.
Added to the SS
@rjquillin @ScottW58 There are multiple vintages?
@klezman @ScottW58 '16 and '17
@klezman @rjquillin
They are all yours I’m a bit backed up with wine

@hscottk That’s the one I didn’t manage to get from Garagiste. I really like SMC PN and I’ve enjoyed all the Wind Gap I’ve tried.

@InFrom Happy Channukah!
2011 Congruence Combsville reserve cab, still not working for me, guess it’s a vintage thing
Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
@ScottW58 All 11’s, or just this?
@rjquillin @ScottW58 The 2011 is definitely on the green side, but I suspect it’ll do nicely once it gets to its teenage years. Although I enjoy the ahem complexity that bell pepper and related notes give to wines.
@rjquillin
All 11’s is a wide sweep so I will say no to that. I will say that Napa 11’s are not my favorite.
@klezman @rjquillin
Since when is bell pepper a flavor that’s found or should be found in Cabernet?
@klezman @ScottW58 Well, they are, and while some may like them I’d rather take my methoxypyrazines cooked on the side.
@rjquillin @ScottW58 Certainly the pyrazines are more common in Cab Franc than its son. But when you grew into wine tasting in Niagara when I did, pyrazines were common and well managed. At the right level they add complexity and don’t screw up the wine. The California style it is not.
@klezman @rjquillin @ScottW58
We get that in our Ohio Cab Francs. I enjoy it since I cut my teeth on those wines but agree with Scott in that I don’t expect to find it in a Cab Sauv. Thanks to @winesmith for teaching me about pyrazines!

@rjquillin For Science!
@radiolysis and gullet.
Supper was fine, but not up to the wine.
@rjquillin your thoughts on the virage rose?
@losthighwayz
Went first of the listed selections, I didn’t get but a single smallish pour. Nice, quaffable, with less complexity than the '14. The case will not last long (in my time frame).
NV Trader Joe’s Brut Rosé (2018 bottling)
2013 PWR Petite Sirah
2005 WineSmith Syrah Mangel’s Ranch
2008 WineSmith Cabernet Franc
@rc70
How is that Syrah holding up?
@chipgreen It was ok/good, didn’t think it was as good as last bottle a year or so ago. Have 2 more, think I will try another in a few weeks, see if it’s my cold or if I just need to drink them up.
TRAGEDY! I brought one bottle of 2008 Wellington Zinfandel. The cork was soft, and the wine clearly corked. There’s no coming back from this…
@FritzCat That’s a bummer! Last week I had a soft cork on a 2012 Wellington Syrah estate and feared the worst. Happily, the wine survived quite well.
@hscottk Was that supposed to cheer me up? Well…it didn’t work! I’ll be home tomorrow, and give Wellington a chance to redeem themselves. Now that will cheer me up.
@FritzCat It was really more of an FYI on other Wellington cork issues. But I’ve definitely been there with TCA and it’s no fun.
2008 Woot Cellars Adequate Gift
2009 Woot Cellars Blitzen
2010 Woot Cellars Vinito del Finito
@chipgreen This is somehow all very appropriate.
But no EHP or Q4 Holiday Red?
@chipgreen @rjquillin Detecting a theme…
@rjquillin
Next up would have been Vinitwo del Finito but we were “finito” ourselves, as both my wife and I have to work in the morning.
Last night with prime rib
2009 Wellington victory
2014 Pedroncelli cab franc
2013 Navarro petite Sirah
@CorTot How is the Ped CF drinking?
@hscottk it was funky. I’ll try the other 1/2 this weekend to see it resolved at all.
@CorTot I opened a 2009 Victory for our Christmas Eve Pasta dinner - was excellent.
@CorTot @pjmartin I’m considering it for dinner on New Year’s Day.
@CorTot worked down the leftovers on these over the last few nights. The Pedroncelli cab franc was much better today, zero funk, good fruit. Totally surprised by it.
2015 Noceto Sangiovese 375ml. These are so cute! And a great daily drinker, with or without food. Such a steal at the Casemates case price.
2012 Wellington Vineyards Victory Reserve, will revisit in a couple of years.
2009 Cedergreen Cellars Thuja. Really nice Columbia Valley blend. From Last Bottle, one of the last things I bought from them before forcing myself to stop their emails so I wouldn’t be tempted. Still, I wish I’d bought more of this.
2012 Twisted Oak The Spaniard
I was looking for some Noceto Sangiovese, but found this first.
Mixed drinks at a family function. This place had excellent margaritas.

2012 Scott Harvey Zinfandel Mountain Selection
2009 Pedroncelli Zinfandel Mother Clone
2008 Qupe Sonnie’s Syrah while watching my CLEMSON TIGERS win a slugfest against the buckeyes. Wine was excellent, smoked meat elements with great dark fruits. Game was quite the spectacle between two great teams.
2012 Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Kirschenmann Vineyard, with chicken tortilla soup.
@rc70 how about them tigers!
2017 Tercero Mourvedre Rosé
Looking for bottles for Klez, found these; didn’t find those I was looking for however.
@rjquillin but that’s an excellent bottle!
And offer stands for drinks tomorrow night as well.
@klezman You get your delivery(s)?
I could only find three cases and a mag…
@rjquillin yes, I was about to text you but foolishly came here first.
Thank you! I hope I can get it all in the car! I do need to confirm the recipients for some.
Who do I know in the Boston area that could receive a shipment?
Opening up a Wellington 2009 port to work down this week slowly.

NV Kirkland Brut Champagne
That Kirkland bubbly from Costco is the real deal, and quite nice QPR at $20. Much better than the last time I tried the Costco bubbly a few years ago.
@klezman good heads up, we’ll have to try it.
