2008 Qupe Sonnie’s Syrah while watching my CLEMSON TIGERS win a slugfest against the buckeyes. Wine was excellent, smoked meat elements with great dark fruits. Game was quite the spectacle between two great teams.
Was making room for the incoming 3.5 Christmas cases and found this bottle with the cork testing the limits of the foil. My heart sank as it was part of the last shipment from the old site, and my last bottle of this year. Happy to say it didn’t go bad despite the leakage around the cork and testing the foils limit.

Last night I had a kitchen sink blend-- some of the Wine Smith Norton (which was sound, but to me uninspiring), some '15 Apothic Dark, and a dash of Wine Smith Grenache (which again was sound, but not by itself to my taste; it really gave the blend some nice highlights, though).
Recently I’ve had a couple of really nice bottles: a '12 Coquerel Petite Sirah, and a '12 Laura Michael Dry Creek Zin. If I could drink like that all the time, I’d be supremely satisfied. And I’ve got a '13 Trinitas Old Vine Petite Sirah queued up for tonight.
@tercerowines Cool room temp - mid 60’s. Aromatics are evolving nicely, acid and savoury qualities are nicely balanced. I think as it got more air it would have benefited from a slight chill down to cellar temperature. It sort of “flattened out”, if you know what I mean?
But I do wish you would work with CF again. Quite a nice showing!
@rjquillin@ScottW58 The 2011 is definitely on the green side, but I suspect it’ll do nicely once it gets to its teenage years. Although I enjoy the ahem complexity that bell pepper and related notes give to wines.
@rjquillin@ScottW58 Certainly the pyrazines are more common in Cab Franc than its son. But when you grew into wine tasting in Niagara when I did, pyrazines were common and well managed. At the right level they add complexity and don’t screw up the wine. The California style it is not.
We get that in our Ohio Cab Francs. I enjoy it since I cut my teeth on those wines but agree with Scott in that I don’t expect to find it in a Cab Sauv. Thanks to @winesmith for teaching me about pyrazines!

@rjquillin I thought is was good. I didn’t take formal notes though. I have 2-3 more I think. They came from Bevmo as part of their 5 cent sale, roughly at $15 each. Bevmo isnt known for quality juice in the 5 cent sale but it stuck out as a known producer and single vineyard so I grabbed a coupon and went on down to the ol’ bevmo.
Went digging in some containers that I had moved to Missouri and came up with a 2002 Dominique Portet Heathcote Cabernet Sauvignon that I had purchased almost 8 years ago, and decided it was time to open it up. Rather enjoyable, as I tend to find Australian wines too much “in your face”.

One of those “Exclusive” 'til sold out wines, I think.
However, on the back of the bottle it says that the winemaker is none other than Ty Caton!
Damn good stuff for the price.

@klezman Is it worth buying? I’m planning to. I think it will be popular with my wine-sharing colleagues. Whether you’re compelled to buy it probably depends on how much of a completist you are – I’ll leave it at that.

Michael David’s entry level Zin. Less expensive than
Seven Deadly…which Michael David no longer makes.
Excellent: Tasted more like a Syrah than a Zin, but a good Syrah. So, it was a win.
Found this in the cellar, haven’t had a Malbec in a while and used to love this producer. Ct says I paid $40 for it and I remember it was really expensive then to me anyways. Starting to show aged characteristics, still a bit tannic but really a great bottle!
2016 Halcon Esquisto. Light to medium bodied with raspberry/strawberry on the nose and palate. Medium to long finish. Got better with several hours in the decanter. These will definitely benefit from a couple of years in the cellar.
2009 Cedergreen Cellars Thuja. Really nice Columbia Valley blend. From Last Bottle, one of the last things I bought from them before forcing myself to stop their emails so I wouldn’t be tempted. Still, I wish I’d bought more of this.
