@kawichris650@ScottW58 We were discussing it - it’s literally never happened before unless we were travelling. The pieces fell into place, so we took the option!
The wine was good. Earthier end of Pinot. Had it alongside a pasta tasting. Of the pasta dishes it paired best with the ragu.
@CorTot@ScottW58 Oh, I love the instant pot! I do lots of short ribs and lamb shanks in it. Pulled pork/carnitas/etc, too. If you do bone-in cuts then the sauce is extra delicious. We also do the “perpetual sauce” thing where any leftover sauce is used for the next round and it just gets better and better over time.
Considering I had little idea what to expect, it’s not bad. I really need to find another Vermentino to compare to; perhaps a Bailiwick if I can find one of them. Still loads of fruit, this was mostly melon with some citrus, but somewhat lean on acidity at this point to make it a good food bottle. Not sure if it’s always been that way, or just softened. It worked with chicken pot pie yesterday and some white fish tonight, but a bit more zing would have helped out.
@hscottk@radiolysis@rjquillin I’ve quite liked the TJ’s Brut Rose 2-3 years after release. Didn’t intentionally age them, but we bought enough of them that it happened. They do add some complexity with a couple years in bottle.
@rjquillin Would love to hear your impressions. At almost double the retail price of the estate and unoaked versions I’m familiar with, just wondering if you find this to be more complex and interesting.
It’s kinda funny, had this tonight with some roasted chicken and cauliflower, broccoli, truffled mac & cheese and some sautéed mushrooms and onions; quite the mix, all leftovers, but it was the chicken and cauliflower from the notes that made me giggle. Had not remembered the suggested pairings.
Absolutely not a malo-oak-butter bomb, nor a crisp un-oaked bottle. It straddles, but clearly tends to that ‘gentle mouth feel’ of the notes. Went well with the supper selection, but I’d really like a bit more crispness. Solo, as a cocktail, I think it would appeal to a wide audience. Haven’t yet head back from those that got a bottle.
Am I happy with the case? Absolutely, as some were tagged as gifts and I’m quite sure they will be well received.
