Big black with blue fruit on the front palate, earth, and forest through the middle palate, vanilla cream and light spices on the finish. Fruit would be blackberry and raspberry jam, blueberry, leather, forest floor, vanilla, nutmeg; a full-bodied wine.
Fruit is from the Sierra Foothills AVA, from a small 1-acre vineyard at 3200-foot elevation. Since our first vintage in 2005, which coincidentally won a Double Gold and Best in Class at the West Coast Wine Competition in 2007, we have been getting the fruit from the Delatreca Vineyards. From the first years when we aged solely in American OakâŠâin the Old World Styleâ the finished product has gone from an earthy, leathery, tannic bomb to a softer more elegant wine in 2016.

Sorry for the delay! Received this wine over the weekend. In pop and pour it was a little hot, but it quickly settled down and really opened up.
We were going out to eat so we just had a quick half glass.
Saturday the wine was still holding itâs own, and we had it with some lasagna. Definitely dark fruit, definitely getting the earth notes, and the vanilla on the finish. Good balance, nice level of acidity. I really enjoyed this, and the price point seems pretty on the nose.
@CruelMelody@Frogstooth This is good info about cellaring. Based on how well it held up after opening, I assumed it had some shelf life potential, but you never really know⊠Not sure i have the space for it thoughâŠ
Had some flight issues. Wanted to bring this with me to a work trip in AZ over the weekend; however, with cancellations, etc, was not able to take on board with the airline I ultimately ended up on flying. (dang you JSX for canceling my flight!)
Just walked in the door of my house after a few days of travel. Popped the cork, pour a glass, and took a huge wifâcherry vanilla, mmmm.
Sip, woah hot, but not too hot, blue red fruit, vanilla, a little decaying earth/rotting leaves in a nice way. Like when you take a deep breath of forest after snow begins to melt away and you catch some roots, leaves, and needles that have been burried for some time but the fresh smell of spring mixes in and you get some hope for new life and what the world will bring in the year to comeâyeah, it has some of that going on.
This is first impression. I like the whole vanilla, berry, nutmeg start anise cinnamon, earth floor tthing going on. I get maybe 65% fruit, 15% vanilla linger, 12% earth, 8% spice.
Starting a bit hot. When I get back home this evening I will update on how it opened up. If the heat mellows even a little, this will be a big winner.
Very tasty so far.
after having the glass open for about 25 min, it already let go of the excess heat. I really enjoy this wine. Would recommend to a friend. Nice autumn porch sipper.

A Guide to Tempranillo Wine
Iâd take 2-3 bottles in NYC if there was interest in splitting.
@canonizer
I hope you can find someone to share. Really great pricing. All hand sorted fruit very low sulfites. Larry
