Headed to Sonoma
0The Mrs. and I are headed to Sonoma for a much needed long weekend away from all the things. Its been quite a while since we were last there and while there are some absolute must stops.
Iron Horse
Pedroncelli
Ridge
etc.
Is there anything off of the beaten path that has come up in the last 5 years or so that anyone would highly recommend? (Don’t worry about style of wine we are all over the place in that regard.)

I always like visiting Harvest Moon. They’re also next door to Hook & Ladder.
Bedrock does a good tasting, too.
Meeker
Hawley
and I’ve noticed the first two winery’s I looked up now require a reservation and pay up front…
Boo!!!
@CorTot it’s a bummer but most will allow you to cancel without penalty so it’s really more about planning the logistics and timing.
Do wineries still exist in California that don’t charge? we went to MacRostie winery last time a couple of years ago, did not like the wines but the view was gorgeous
@ScottW58
Pinot was meh?
@rjquillin
Pinot, chard and rose was meh IMHO. I remember in the old days they used to make a really nice syrah but they don’t make that anymore.
@ScottW58 I think he meant that you have to pay in advance, not that they charge generally speaking.
@winedavid49
Any good off the beaten path recommendations?
@CorTot Am I too late? A few of my favorites are Croix, Schermeister (only open seasonally), Bedrock, Rafanelli. There are plenty more that aren’t coming to mind at the moment.
Also, I went to Marchelle the other day and it was a very fun tasting with the winemaker. 3+ hours of mostly barrel samples.
@arianaWCC not too late at all, still a couple of weeks out.
Thank you for the recommendations, I’ll check them out.
@CorTot and i’m a sucker for the 8th street wineries. Tin Barn being one of them.
@Winedavid49 I’ll check those out, thank you.
I’d recommend Kutch if he’s available. We did a tasting in the park which was wonderful. Not sure if that’s still possible post COVID but the wines are great regardless of location. And no tasting fee.
@hscottk
Thanks for reminding me maybe I will open one of those tonight
We settled on doing a tour at Gundlach, stoping by some of the 8th street wineries (WDs suggestion) and then doing iron horse and some of the casemates favorites in Healdsburg. Thank you for all your suggestions.
