Thanks for sharing. I found it VERY interesting and I already appreciate Cathy’s wines from hearing about them on the previous WD site. I really can’t afford to buy her wines but maybe someday we’ll be blessed to see some kind of deal on here and can share some exceptional (or as they’ve been called “black tie”) wines!
@InFrom@rjquillin@ttboy23 If you’ve got access to grocery outlet, they’ve had mid/late-90s York Creek Meritage, which according to the website http://www.yorkcreek.com/winery/ Cathy Corison was a consulting winemaker for. It’s $15/bottle.
02 and 03 were $70 as a two pack iirc. Everyone complained about the price. So now 10 years later it’s a $100 each. I say buy now before it’s $200 each
@ScottW58 I thoroughly enjoyed this interview with Cathy. Those who were with us on the original 2008 rpm Magical History Tour, or the 2012 Cabernet Seminar Advanced rpm Tour, may note that Cathy seems to have come around to my way of thinking that the first mature ‘sweet spot’ is rarely early than age 10 (she talked about that with the 2010 she was drinking). She also talked about the wines coming in and out over time from 10-20+, -30+ in great vintages. You may recall she liked the wines at 6-8 when we all first tasted with her, and that I was the advocate of waiting until 10 after the initial fruit driven (not fruit forward) initial phase before they went to sleep. I haven’t talked with Cathy in a while, but I must say I feel vindicated that her understanding of Cabernet has evolved to be much closer to the views I have been advocating here and on the other side since 2007 (and actually since the early '60s when I first tasted the wines from the '30s and '40s).
@rpm
I suspect that she did agree with you but had a room full of potential buyers that might not want to wait that long to drink a bottle, gotta sell wine you know
I have 2 bottles of the 2014 Kronos from WW. If I understand Cathy’s comments, a drinking window should open in 2022 - 2024. Her website does not say, but some of the reviews indicate 2024-2025 and beyond. Anyone have a different takeaway?
@davirom
Yeah I will drink one probably this year, one at 10 years and who knows after that? Some people around here will wait until their heirs drink them
@davirom@ScottW58
There’s this think called a Corovin, with which
I think Scott has recently become acquainted.
Still a half price sale going on at Vinous, since we’re also talking about them…
@ScottW58 I watched that the other day. He thinks about wine growing very differently than many!
I was surprised Antonio didn’t get into the control Andy asserts over all aspects of the growing. It was interesting how Andy “vets” purchasers of his grapes, too. Very brand-conscious.
@klezman
What I liked is when he said in the early 70’s it was all about the winemaker and with him running a farming company he bought up what he knew were great vineyards that grew the best grapes for a song…well in today’s prices anyways.

@ttboy23
I thought I couldn’t afford them either,
until they nearly doubled in price later…
@rjquillin @ttboy23 I feel like I paid around $60 on woot for her 2002. Those were the days.
@rjquillin @ttboy23 It was $60 for a pair of the 2003. Wow. https://wine.woot.com/offers/corison-cabernet-two-pack-1

@InFrom @novium @ttboy23
Yup, the '96 Meritage was suggested to be her last year there. Need to watch that 'cast.
@InFrom @rjquillin @ttboy23 can confirm the 1996 was delicious and was in fine form for a 24 year old wine, anyway.

This was awesome, thanks for posting!
POKER! JOKER! NOT MEDIOCRE! AWESOME!

@ScottW58 I just want to avoid catching it in a “mute” period.

Here is a link for others holding the 2014
Another great one with Andy Beckstoffer

I also really enjoyed this one with Morgan Twain-Peterson. Made me sign up for the Bedrock email list.
@klezman
Been there done that
@ScottW58 I’ve no doubt. But for the rest of the world…
And Tegan Passalacqua of Turley and Sandlands…
The Macdonalds one was great too!
@ScottW58 Same ones from the To Kalon kerfuffle, I assume? I’ll probably watch it.
@klezman @ScottW58
You all clearly have entirely too much time on your hands.
Come on down and help build cameras.
@klezman @rjquillin
Never too much time to learn something new! And we would hate to come down and take your job
@rjquillin @ScottW58 I put it on when I’m working after dinner.
@klezman Shouldn’t “working” be in quotes?
@klezman @ScottW58
Right now there’s enough to easily go around.
Still trying to train up the newbies to share the load.
