Was about to open a Tercero Grenache, but then molarchae said she wanted rose. So we opened a 2014 Kessler-Haak Pinot Noir Rose. It’s very pink.
2001 Wellington Syrah Reserve magnum, leaky cork but absolutely outstanding, PnP was very nice but after about 30 minutes of air it really came alive.
2008 Wellington Cab Sauv Mohrhardt Ridge another great QPR from Peter.
2012 Foppiano PS
2013 inspiration vineyards Zinfandel
2007 Betz Clos de Betz with prime rib roast, etc. Seems to be in its prime drinking window with plenty of years left.
@jmdavidson1
I always regretted not buying more of those when I had a chance…good?
@ScottW58 This was hitting on all cylinders. I do like anything Betz and Corliss and Buty and, well you get the picture. So many nice Washington wines at non-Napa pricing. But, you already knew that.
@jmdavidson1
Drop the mic
A rare, Monday-night wine night, prompted by a spousal bday. In a fun Spanish restaurant, a Rioja Crianza, 2014 Monasterio de Yuso. Solid.
With leftover rib roast,

2004 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Barolo Riserva
2006 Beau Vigne Juliet
@jmdavidson1
How was this? I have heard good things.
@ScottW58 I’m a big fan of Beau Vigne. Solid drinkers.
This was burning a hole in my pocket, it’s not like me to wait on a wine for months before trying the first one

Made some steamed mussels with chorizo, tomatoes and wine, so picked a 2014 Campesino Baybos for the pairing.
2010 Kendric Pinot Noir
with matza pizza, of course…
2009 Twisted Oak Ol’ Chumbucket
El Jefe made a winner with this one.
2007 Castello di Bossi Corbaia Toscana IGT found this in the cellar even better today than when I last had it in 2012. With Costco rack of lamb and Mexican corn.

@ScottW58 +1

2007 Radog Pinot Noir
@chipgreen wow, you have lucky co-workers! I always wished I had more of that Planet Pluto. Nice lineup!
@chipgreen Well done
@InFrom That was my first time drinking it and now I wish I had bought more as well, although I do have 2 bottles left.
2013 Iron Horse Chardonnay Estate
2013 Copain Syrah, Weed Farms, Dry Creek Valley. A winespies pickup, which for $20 drinks well above its price.
2015 The Princess and the Peasant Pinot Noir
2016 Trentadue Sauvignon Blanc, Bellacana Vineyard
2014 Siduri Pinot Noir, Parsons’ Vineyard
Contemplating a third bottle…
Third bottle:
2010 Wellington Cabernet Sauvignon, Morhardt Ridge Vineyard
2013 Wellington Victory with peppercorn steak. My first Victory, though I have older ones in the cellar. I had several 2013 bottles, though, so I thought I’d try one out. Very nice.
@tklivory And if you can succeed, leftovers are even better on day two~three.
@rjquillin @tklivory
Day two or three??!! I don’t think we can hang out together any more
First visit to Farmer’s Table and it won’t be the last.
Bison Tartare
Grilled Octopus
A soup I forgot
Lamb Shank
Short Rib
Oxtail Pappardelle
The girls had some
2014 St. Supéry Moscato
with the rib and oxtail. I don’t know how they can do that.
2008 Roessler Pinot Noir Gap’s Crown
went well with the lamb.
Kind of a birthday and clean-bill-of-health meal for swmbo, now +3 from some major cancer surgery.
@rjquillin
Sounds delicious!
@rjquillin Great reason for a celebration!
@InFrom @rjquillin
Indeed! Happy Birthday and congrats on the clean bill of health!
@rjquillin
Good to hear!!
@rjquillin And they didn’t even charge corkage on that Moscato!
@rjquillin Why would they charge corkage on it? It’s not even wine!
Happy birthday and congrats to swmbo!
@rjquillin fantastic!
@klezman I think he took pity on it and I did offer up some of the Gap’s Crown, but it was crazy busy.
Swmbo is about the only reason I stay in the club.
@Winedavid49 Thanks, to you for what you do for all of us and for all the new friends I’ve gained here.
2014 Twisted Oak Zilch!
Opened a magnum of 2005 Kronos, a bottle of 1905 d’Oliveiras Verdelho and some Iron Horse Cuvee.
@TimothyB Having company over, or just tying on a good one?
Either way, well done, but, still young for a mag, no?
@rjquillin Cousins in from Dallas. And I wanted to make it a special occasion.
@rjquillin @TimothyB A magnum of Kronos makes for a very special occasion indeed!
2013 Twisted Oak Torcido
2013 Noceto Sangiovese Riserva
Prosciutto wrapped chicken breast stuffed with Goat cheese, fire roasted red peppers, arugula cooked Sous Vide. Good friends, good food & wine saturday night good times.
@rc70 My wife always liked Grenache (and GSMs), I thought they were okay. But 2011 Torcido out of that 2018 TO mystery case was absolutely delicious. Couple months ago we did the 2013 out of that same mystery case, and ditto. Best Grenache I’ve had, though admittedly I’ve only had like 7. I’ve had a fancier expensive one (gift from my boss) that was more complex and had that “expensive” taste, but the Torcido was yum yum yum (getting technical there, sorry.)
‘09 Corliss Red Wine Bordeaux blend.
Toasty oak/vanilla, cassis, and violets.
Went well with beef tenderloin, garlic mashed cauliflower, and green beans.
@otolith How was this? Did it need much of a decant?
@jmdavidson1 This was great, if you like the toasty oak/vanilla style of cabs. I didn’t decant, but it seemed to open up after an hour.
2014 WineSmith Grenache Blanc de Noirs Of my two bottles of this, this is the one that arrived on a freezing day, with all the tartrate crystals swirling around in the bottle. But I gather that wouldn’t affect taste so, appearance notwithstanding – it was refreshing, but a little short on flavor and aroma. Faintly lemon, but not much else. Hoping the other bottle will have a little more going on.
2014 Campesino Baybos, 30 min decant. BlackBerry, anise, allspice. Medium finish. Very nice on its own, but I’ll wait at least another year for the next bottle.
Last night with grilled Tri-tip for my bros bday
2015 tangent Albariño
2013 limerick lane zin RRV
2013 Wellington Cabernet Sonoma county
2000 Di Meo Fiano di Avellino Selezione Erminia
Last night we had a 2013 Garon Cote-Rotie Les Triotes and a 2014 Bridge 1904 Cabernet.
The C-R was delicious. Sometimes I forget that younger wines are great drinking too!
The Bridge 1904 was also pretty yummy. Not one for the ages, but tasty juice from Vincent Arroyo.
Making French onion soup and thought this NV Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Grand Rosé would go nicely…sadly it’s fantastic and I will not have a drop left by the time the soup is done

@ScottW58 Poor you! How’d the soup turn out?
@InFrom
Good not great, I didn’t have any sherry to add to give it that extra depth of flavor…next time.
@InFrom @ScottW58 Without Sherry, onion soup, well, just isn’t.
Awesome comment. LOL.
2007 Parallel CS Napa Valley. From Paul Menke. Just a solid CS.
Up tonight, with some sous vide Flannery Saratoga Ribeyes,
Creamy Fennel mashed potatoes and Truffle butter, grilled cauliflower, green beans and Guinness Bear Bread from the remote party pack;
2008 C.G. di Arie Cabernet Franc Gallery Collection
@rjquillin Thanks for posting the full menu/pairing. The potatoes have caught my imagination…sound delicious. How much fennel do you use per pound of potatoes?
@jmdavidson1 I hate this camera…

@jmdavidson1 @rjquillin
Looks like a great meal and a proper stem for Sunday night
@jmdavidson1 @ScottW58 Yeah, over $20 and I pull out the good ones.
It was a side dish of the Scott Harvey Easter dinner menu
2 lbs. baking potatoes, peeled and quartered
2 lbs. Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and quartered
Salt
3 medium fennel bulbs, cored and sliced 1/4” thick
1 cup Half & Half, warmed until hot
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
Freshly ground pepper
2008 Twisted Oak Syrah
Last night was a bottle of 2012 Wellington Petit Verdot. Popped the cork at 1:30, started decanting at 6:30, poured into glasses at 8:30. Absolutely delightful. The tannins were still stiff but not biting. Earthy, leathery and
bone dry, with a hint of dust. There was some hint of dark fruit in the past, but no RS that I could detect. Really, really wonderful, and should be delightful for years to come.
At least 93 degrees here today ugghh which makes me think I don’t have enough bubbles in my cellar! Although this works well.

Got to all of 40 here today and we woke up to 2 inches of snow. You have global warming, we have global freezing. Yuck. Costco purchase: 2016 Monte del Fra Bardolino ($9). Pretty tasty for the price. No regrets.
@jmdavidson1 94F here today.
@CorTot @jmdavidson1
Yup brutal
@CorTot @jmdavidson1 90-ish here as well. Had a Parducci Rose. It’s going to be hotter than hell here tomorrow too.
(And yes, my Canadian sensibilities say 90 degrees is hotter than hell)
Nice middle temp here today, 60. Decided to have an impromptu BBQ, grabbed a couple of Costco prime Tri Tips had a few folks over. loving my new patio and outdoor kitchen.
2002 Wellington Syrah - Magnum
2009 Zaca Mesa Syrah
2009 Terlato & Chapoutier L-Block Shiraz
2012 Scott Harvey Syrah Mtn. Selection
@rc70
How was the terlato? I have been tempted by those a couple of times!
@ScottW58
It was good but probably would have been better with a little air time to open up. Was not expecting to need a 4th & 5th bottle on a monday evening so just pnp at last minute. I would pick up a couple of bottles if I ran into them.
@rc70 how was the 2002 wellington syrah??
@Winedavid49
It was wonderful, earthy dark fruits that really came alive about 30/45 minutes after opening. It was gone far to quickly, I myself did not get to enjoy as much of it as I was planning to as I was busy cooking on the grill and griddle and before I knew it it was gone.
On the plus side my friends all got to enjoy a fantastic wine and for me that’s what it’s all about, sharing experiences with friends and family.
@rc70 Warms the cockles… thanks for sharing.
@rc70 Reminds me of the '95 Wellington Syrah I got as the “library wine” in a mixed case. I tell people it’s like meeting a polite, refined, aged gentleman – no sharp edges, no cockyness, just smooth, mature, and a lot of wisdom to offer.
Still hot here so an English sparkler with Asian pork chops, this bottle is fair to middling compared to the first one I had but I will keep looking

Left over salmon from last night and a case of Campesino will be coming soon, so a 2015 Isa.
@jmdavidson1 Is the Campesino from BD, and if so – you have tracking info?
@InFrom No, it was a 15 from a prior purchase. I have not gotten any shipping info from Campesino from the 2018 BD purchase.
@jmdavidson1 I guess he’s waiting for Spring? It’s been a long wait. I don’t think we’re supposed to get any snow (this week, at least).
@InFrom @jmdavidson1 I got mine quite awhile ago. It might be worth following up.
@CorTot @jmdavidson1 He said at the time he’d be holding off shipping to colder parts of the country until 3/15, and I feel like we heard from again after that, though I can’t find the email. It’s not like winter was anywhere near done with us at that point.
That’s not my only BD order that the winery held due to weather, so I’m not too concerned. My Riesling from Paetra is due next week.
@CorTot @jmdavidson1 The Paetra arrived yesterday, so did a shipping notice for the Campesino. Spring is finally here! (I hope.)
@CorTot @InFrom I, too, rec’d a notification of shipping from Campesino yesterday.
End of the Parducci Rose and the start of a 2012 Bailiwick Cab Franc. I have a feeling I’m going to be sad I only got a few of each vintage.
Bailiwick cab franc is an excellent bottle of wine imho. I’m just glad I got a 6 pack before it was gone!
@ScottW58 Really dug the D’Arie CF I opened the other day. Only bottle I had, should have saved it for when Klez and/or you were around.
@rjquillin @ScottW58 When you hosting a shindig?
Have to mention last night. 2010 Wellington Handal-Denier cabernet, with prime ribeye, sauted mushrooms, roasted Brussels sprouts. Life is good!
2013 Jeff Runquist Syrah Paso Robles with BBQ ribs, mac-n-cheese. (WWET)
It cooled off to about 76 degrees so i’m back in the saddle again! With rib eyes and baked potatoes. Man when you pop this cork the unmistakable smell of Cabernet comes flying out of the bottle, so glad to have these

You’re killing me! Down to only a couple 08’s and 09’s. SWMBO has said SIWBM or else I’d be in for another case.
@jmdavidson1
sadly I think he is out of the 8’s and 9’s so no need to think about it.
Heh that was not my intention…well maybe a little bit
@jmdavidson1 @ScottW58 I need to try one of those. Waiting for an appropriately steak-or lamb-filled evening.
@jmdavidson1 @klezman @ScottW58 Isn’t Steve still producing? If memory still working, there was a new BD offering.
@baekdusan @jmdavidson1 @klezman
I think he has a hand in some new project but not sure if he is the winemaker or not? But congruence is done.
2013 Harvest Moon Pinot Noir
2013 I Veroni Chianti Rufina
2011 Arnione Campo alla Sughera, Bolgheri Superiore
@jmdavidson1
That’s a hard one to find! how is it?
@ScottW58 As good as the one’s I’ve had from 07 and 09. Wine Access has them for $40 a bottle now. I’ve been able to get $50 credits out of them lately, so the price per has been less. Just ordered 4 more at an average ( with $50 credit) of $30@.
Nice! I did recently get a $50 credit to come back and buy something, I better go check that out, thanks! You got a link i can’t find it…
Klezman inspired me to pop another one of these tonight, it is sooooo fricking good again I promptly went to the website and got another 6 for something like $11.50 a bottle

@ScottW58 As quickly as his other selections got picked over, I’m surprised this has lasted this long.
Finishing off the '08 Di Arie CF, not that I finally got home. Wish I had or more of these were available.
@ScottW58 Well shit…we’d have added a couple more to your order at that price!
2012 Vino Noceto Zinfandel OGP
Last night a 2014 Rusack SRH Reserve Pinot and 2017 Stolpman Love You Bunches
Esoterica 2016 Cab, from here.
Just got back from FL after 1.5 months, pretty warm here too, in contrast to what I left.
Property there a disappointment, here as well. Damn, need a garage now. At least the wine is OK, hoping everyone is kicking it better!
Tonight with some beautiful prime 30 day dry aged rib eyes from my local butcher a 2015 Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno, sure smells good in the decanter!

@ScottW58 Baller.
@ScottW58 How much does your guy charge for those? Might be worth the trip!
You around next weekend or two? Or even this weekend, although my dad is in town. But then again you can gang up on me.
@klezman
Not sure of the price per pound but it was 4 Ribeyes 2 to 3 inches thick and a pile of potato salad for $100.
I do like your dad, a real guy who doesn’t suffer fools
let me check with the boss for this Sunday.
@ScottW58 That’s a good price…gotta go there next time we venture over the hill!
2011 Keller Estate Rotie Syrah. (WWET)
@jmdavidson1
I told you I would open that this weekend, it’s your fault
Gotta know how is the Keller??
@ScottW58 If you go back a read the lab report from vaaccess, it is bang on. At $20/bottle, a really nice deal by WineDavid’s crew. If a 2011 can be this good, the 12 and 13 s/b a notch or two up.
@jmdavidson1
Yeah dang it I suspected those might be real good.
@jmdavidson1 @ScottW58 Keller makes some good stuff. Another casualty of the WBM. Since I’m not @rjquillin, I can’t have them all!
2008 Wellington Victory
2013 Charles Smith Viognier Lawrence Vineyard
2014 WineSmith St. Laurent Ricci Vineyard Carneros
@rjquillin had the Charles smith tonight with surf & turf for my brides birthday. Really tasty bottle!
2003 Château Sainte-Colombe
Trying out a new recipe tonight Cod en cocotte and drinking this because it’s frigging hot again.
2005 Sbragia CS Wall Vyd and a carry-out cheese & sausage thin crust because it’s friggin’ 36 degrees here. Can’t we exchange some weather, so both parts of the country will be temperate?
@jmdavidson1
Oh how I wish!
@jmdavidson1 I’ll take 36 over 86 for shipping any day.
@rjquillin And, my wine cellar (basement) is 60 degrees and 65% rh, so, yes, the cold does have an up side.
2014 Juslyn Vineyards Perry’s Blend
Often I pull a bottle that’s just too young…
But this one is rocking (read quite tasty) some leftover lamb.
Think I may hold the others for at least a few years before thinking about them again.
@rjquillin
I popped one of those too a month or so ago, yup I loved it
The dish came out great if I don’t say so myself, who knew a little bit of Chorizo would be great with cod?

@ScottW58 Some Spaniard probably knew. Anyway, looks delish. But what did you open with it?
@ScottW58 Sometimes when I make steamed mussels I’ll do a broth with chorizo and tomatoes. Yumm.
2015 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir, San Benito County, Vista Verde Vineyard
@karenhynes How was this?
21012 Twisted Oak The Spaniard
2013 Twisted Oak Cockamamie ( found a six pack that I didn’t know I had)
@rc70 Your cellar must look a bit like mine…
finding un-inventoried treasures.
@rc70 cockamamie was a good deal. how’s it holding up?
@rc70 @Winedavid49 A score at < $10.
Last I had the Monastrell Cockamamie back in July, just fine. Those twist offs seem to keep the contents nearly fresh as released, as some that grabbed that 2006 Buena Vista Ramal years ago can attest to.
@Winedavid49
Holding up very well, Blueberries, plums, pepper probably go at least another year or two without a problem. I don’t expect the other 5 will last beyond July, excellent BBQ wine.
2009 Clarendon Hills Cabernet Sauvignon Sandown
Prime rib, zucchini, and cheesy risotto with a 2011 Wellington estate syrah
2009 Tercero Grenache, Watch Hill Vineyard
@TerceroWines
@klezman someone call my name?!?!? How’s it drinking? Have not had the 09 in awhile but my last bottle was singing! Opened an 11 Camp 4 Grenache in the tasting room - #unicornwine as it’s a warm climate site in a cool year leading to one very very unique and delicious wine
@tercerowines Figured you like to know these things
It’s drinking quite well. A bit reductive on opening (rubbery hints), but a bit of air and a splash decant is treating it quite nicely. Lots of savoury notes.
Looking forward to trying the 2011 Camp 4 - I find even with your extended ageing, I still like to let your wines sit a year or three before opening.
Shrimp Ceviche, Flannery Summer mix #3 sliders all decked out with some fine Stilton and fried plantain to finish it off, with some open bottles of
2013 Charles Smith Viognier Lawrence Vineyard
2014 Juslyn Vineyards Perry’s Blend
2003 Nicolaysen Family Vineyard Pinot Blanc Late Harvest Bien Nacido Vineyard
Really should have popped a bubbly with the ceviche tho…
@rjquillin Bravo. Nice menu RJ (really jealous).
@jmdavidson1 forgot to mention there was some French Vanilla with balsamic involved with the plantain.
1997 Opus One! ddeuddeg decided to pop this for my birthday dinner at a local steakhouse! Still drinking beautifully!
@bahwm
Happy 21st Birthday!
@bahwm Happy Birthday, indeed! Nancy and I paid $15 for a 1 oz. pour of Opus One at a local self-serve wine kiosk recently. I can only imagine how wonderful a full glass (or two) must be! Enjoy!
@bahwm Happy Birthday! What a nice bottle to open!
I have a bottle sitting. Waiting.
@bahwm Happy birthday! What a nice way to celebrate!
Happy Birthday !
2013 Wellington Victory
With rib cap steaks and stuff
2009 Brancaia Maremma Toscana Ilatraia with minestra, insalata and crostini
@jmdavidson1
Man I wish I was drinking that, you baller!
So yesterday my daughter asked if she could have a bottle of wine to drink with her 4 friends that were coming over, so I of course gave her a bottle that I don’t like thinking she will drink anything
Well damn they didn’t like it either so i’m attempting to drink the last 3/4 of the bottle and man it still sucks imho, down the drain
The bottle you ask? 2011 Noceto Riserva Sangiovese blech once again imho. Don’t get me wrong I love Noceto and have over a case in my cellar, but this one is still…nope!
@ScottW58 Weird…mine have been coming around. Maybe leave them outside of your wine fridge…accelerate that process
That was my last one thankfully gave most of them away hmmm maybe that’s why those people don’t talk to me anymore
I just never liked em.
2011 Notre Vin Cab Sauv
2012 Kangarilla Road Cab Sauv McLaren Vale
@rc70 How is the 11 Notre Vin drinking? I’ve picked up some 10’s and 12’s.
Drinking well, 45 minute decant and dark fruits came alive. The 11 seems more old world style than the 10 or 12 - maybe not as fruit forward.
I have more 10 11 12 so I guess when weather gets a little better I’ll round up a couple of my Cab buddies and have them bring some nice steaks and do a vertical tasting… if you ever find yourself in Salt Lake City let me know.
My bottle this week (yes, I drink roughly one a week hush) is the Parducci Small Lot Rosé offered on CM a while back. Started it last night with some Chicken Marsala. As I thought, I really, really enjoyed it at various temperatures. I like that odd finish that some warned of in the Rattage, though, so it may not be for everyone. Looking forward to that and the NWN Riesling as my summer wines this year! (Granted it’s not summer yet, but I was really in a Rosé mood and we did have a heat spell last week, so…)
@tklivory And that is precisely why it’s important for rats to describe their impressions with as little judgement as possible. And to compare it to the things they enjoy, but recognizing the difference between “objective” and “subjective” evaluations. (Air quotes because truly anything sensory is subjective.) My wife’s extreme distaste for bitterness leads her to dislike things that wouldn’t bother many (most?) people.
In short, glad you enjoyed it! I had my bottle of it a few days ago and enjoyed it as well.
2007 Beau Vigne Juliet CS
2004 Sempre Vive CS Eugenia. Solid wine and still in its drinking window.
@jmdavidson1 CT says I still have a split of that.
Think it’s still worth trying to find?
@rjquillin Yes, if you mean try to find in your stash. This is a very good wine and why wait for it to be over the hill? Mine was not dull, oxidized or in any way, shape or form undrinkable. Enjoy! (wwet)
A pretty nice Syrah with my least favorite thing in life…turkey burgers woof.

@ScottW58 who makes these turkey burgers for you? Or did you buy turkey futures and are now regretting it?
2012 Bedrock, Bedrock Heritage - wonderful wine.
NV Vino Noceto Rosso
2005 Eagles Trace Latitude 38
@chipgreen +1. Those were such good TSO deals.
@chipgreen @jmdavidson1
+2
Finished this one tonight… seemed to be at or near its peak. Very nice!
Made a Sichuan Dry Fried Green Beans with pork, which turned out pretty good. And…

https://omnivorescookbook.com/szechuan-dry-fried-green-beans/
@ScottW58 That stuff is delicious. On both counts.
2013 Roche Pinot Noir Reserve, Barrel Select. Fantastic, if you like your PN mushroomy.
2013 Charles Smith Viognier. Hot damn, it’s a good wine!
Zaca mesa z blend
Praxis cellars merlot Alexander valley
2007 Showket Vyds CS. (wwet)
With yum bacon avocado burgers, man the 09 is delicious tonight!

Stop posting the pictures of this! You’re probably the guy that bought up every last bottle of this, and maybe even the '08.
Paired my CS with Boeuf Bourguignon (a la Julia Child). ha
@jmdavidson1
That’s the thanks I get for buying your recommendation and making you look smart!?! I sure am glad I got my 2 mixed cases
@ScottW58 You just had to get in there the “2 mixed cases” didn’t you? If it weren’t for SWMBO I’d have been in on the close out.
@jmdavidson1
So you notice that I like stirring the pot bout time
@jmdavidson1 @ScottW58
I’m sad I didn’t get in on any of these…
@jmdavidson1 @karenhynes
Well Karen if I do what I said I was going to do last year and make it to a Cubbie game this July I will bring a bottle just for you!
@jmdavidson1 @ScottW58
We’d love it if you made it to Chicago!
@jmdavidson1 @karenhynes
I’ll be in Chicago in 2 weeks for a couple nights. If the stars align, it’d be nice to meet up for a drink!
@jmdavidson1 @klezman
Indeed! Please keep us posted!
2008 Whitehall Lane Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
@karenhynes How is this drinking? I had a few some years ago and really enjoyed them. WW had a few offers years ago. Maybe WD needs to get them in the casemates lineup, no?
@jmdavidson1
Bought it here (2/21). It delicious. Still seems pretty young for a 2008. I’d probably buy more if they reappeared. Dark cherry, a little earthy, good acid, tannins are smoothing out nicely. Pairing nicely with the dark chocolate peanut butter cups WD had over on woot a month or so ago.
@karenhynes Forgot this was on here a couple of months ago and chi group split a case.
@jmdavidson1
I’m not sure if anyone grabbed a case or not. I bought a two-pack assuming it would be hard to get enough interest at that price point.
@jmdavidson1 @karenhynes likewise, snagged a pair.
Wondering if we’ll ever have a meh-off…
@jmdavidson1 The '08 vintage probably threw you off. Was surprised to see a 10-year old Cab offer here. I was interested but need to buy juice that can rest while I try to drink what I’ve already bought! Have not yet been able to get to where we are drinking more than buying but it’s about even now, so that’s progress…
@chipgreen @jmdavidson1
I’m still buying more than I drink…but I’ve stepped up my consumption the past couple of months.
@jmdavidson1 @rjquillin
I wondered about the possibility of a “meh-off”, too. @winedavid49 ?
2016 Paetra Riesling “K”
BD pickup iirc.
@rjquillin What a coincidence!I opened my first bottle of that tonight. Really nice.
I took a picture, but Imgur I just don’t understand. I think they changed it since I last used it.
@InFrom
@rjquillin That’s the one! I had a nice still life a la ScottW, with the vino in the Gabriel Glas and all.
@InFrom I cheated; that one came from CT.
@rjquillin Wiseguy!
@InFrom
Pic’s or it didn’t happen!
@ScottW58 It happened!
@InFrom
Nice! I love pictures, see now you have reminded me that I need a toaster oven
@ScottW58 Don’t get this one, we hate the way it toasts! It replaced an ancient Black & Decker Toast-r-Oven that did a nice job toasting, but finally gave up the ghost after a couple of decades.
@ScottW58 Tonight…
@ScottW58 Ooh, that label’s a little dark. It’s the Karren vyd. Dark, almost murky, looks a little like Passover wine to me. But happily tastes nothing like it.
Hey, I left my water in the kitchen!
@InFrom
I like this one…

Thanks for the tip! and btw I think you need a new drip coffee maker
@InFrom
haha no I can see the vineyard just fine, nice stems you have there
@ScottW58 That’s a behemoth, not sure it would fit under our cabinet!
@ScottW58 15.25", not so bad.
New stash of Campesino Isa (2016) arrived yesterday, so tonight 2015 Isa with a can of Veleta sardines and crositini. The Isa is so-o-o-o good.
@jmdavidson1 Where’s my damn Isa??? Tracking said it was coming tomorrow, but darned if FedEx Home didn’t try to deliver it yesterday to my office. I think that may mean I don’t see it again until Tuesday.
BD was so long ago, but the fruits of that buying frenzy keep showing up on my doorstep. That’s kind of nice. This is the last of it.
Band Blend track9
I am really liking this blend. I wish I had bought more, It is a great daily drinker.
With rib eye steaks and homemade chimichurri sauce.

Sashimi tonight, possibly with some leftover “K” and down WW memory lane with some

Thanks for the pictures tho!!
Either your hands are getting mighty Shakey or you need too get yourself a new phone/camera!
@ScottW58 low light and no flash, as the flash looked really bad and the women were making noises about supper.
Couldn’t see how bad it was till I posted.
2014 Zepaltas cab franc, Pickberry
@hscottk
I’ve heard good things about that wine how was it?
@ScottW58 it was very enjoyable; had a very pleasant earthiness, some spice, no bell pepper to speak of. Mouthfeel was a little thin with a short to medium finish. It paired very nicely with some manchego cheese.
We used a Vinturi, but I’d be curious what a 2 hour decant might do for this wine. I think it has several years left, so we’ll see what happens with my 2 remaining bottles.
Out to dinner tonight with another couple so we are bringing…drink one or both who knows?
2013 Et Fille Pinot Noir willamette valley with rotisserie chicken on a beautiful SoCal evening.
Surprisingly tasty GO find at $5.50 during their spring sale.
Good acid, nice red/dark fruit. Nice weight. I like it.
@CorTot
@CorTot You pickup any Blakeslee PN?
The store down here had a couple of nice selections at compelling prices.
@rjquillin I did not. But I never did see it.
2013 Bailiwick Wines Pinot Noir Michaud
Those Bailiwicks are tasty.
2016 Navarro Mendocino Rose (GSM, not Pinot)
@klezman I recall candace liking that rose quite a bit.
@jmdavidson1 what do you use to cook them?
Blackstone?
That arugula and goat cheese is looking darn tasty.
@rjquillin I cook them right on the (gas) grill grates. Also drizzled some fig preserve on top. The pizza crusts are Pastorelli Ultra Thin. I use an IR gun so I make sure the surface temp is 450 and they take about 4 1/2 minutes (closed lid) to toast up the crusts to crispy. I make a pretty good BBQ chicken pizza the same way (bacon included).
@jmdavidson1
nice looking pies JM! Hope you enjoy the Gattinara, I just got the 07’s and I will pop one soon.
I see you figured it out
2015 Galerie Naissance SB with grilled barramundi
Making a brisket in the instapot and drinking this, lovely cherry/raspberry fruit, leather I think? tar on the nose good acidity and still some pretty firm tannin’s. Still pretty bright might last a long time? I’m liking this a lot so JM if you hate yours I will pm you my address

@ScottW58 Bought two, drank two. Really enjoyed it. Local Binny’s has it in stock.
2012 Halcon Alturas (at a great point of development).
Waterbrook Reserve Merlot 2014, with rack of lamb. Delicious (both of them).
2011 Twisted Oak Tanner Vineyard Syrah. So freaking delicious right now. Even better given the current hockey game status!

@klezman We finished off the Halcon tonight. Otherwise, it looks like no one (not even SW58) is drinking/posting wine tonight. Cheers, Klezman!
@jmdavidson1 @klezman It is a Wednesday, just to help you out with the dotw from earlier posts.
Finishing off leftover Paetra K with leftover ham & bean soup.
This actually worked, after I spiced up the beans with some siracha, after another another long day…
2014 Woot Cellars (Pedroncelli) Bonus Level! Petite Sirah
Perhaps this just isn’t ready yet. A rare miss…
Recapped without using Vacu-vin to let it get some air overnight since it was pretty disjointed. Happy to report it’s much better today. Massive tannins but the rest knitted together nicely.
@chipgreen Yeah, when we ratted that at a gathering it was undrinkable. Several days later it softened enough. I’m waiting another year, probably, before I even think about opening one. Unless CT notes tell me otherwise.
2012 Iron Horse Classic Vintage Brut
@jmdavidson1 a bubbly kind of evening it would appear.
@rjquillin First that we’ve had this and we really liked it. Shared it with friends who had prepared chicken cordon bleu.

You know that thing where you think you’re going to have a nice, light, carefully crafted Pinot Noir to go with a delicious, take-out Peruvian rotisserie chicken, and you end up opening a 2013 Black Pearl blend from S. Africa, 58% Shiraz and 42% CS, 15% AbV? It’s another case of the best-laid plans of mice and men. The specs sheet says only 3.4 g/l of RS, but it’s so sweet! Is that because, fruit? Tasty, though. I got it during a Last Bottle marathon a year or so ago. It wasn’t a bad match for the chicken, just a lot bigger and bolder of a wine than I’d planned. Because you know that thing where you look at Cellartracker and carefully consider which bottle to pull, then grab the first thing that catches your eye, instead?
Prepping myself for the last couple days for a big Hermitage dinner tomorrow night, so only having a single glass of this with dinner.
Jamon, and other goodies, arrived.
Now, to figure out what to do with them.
@rjquillin
Well if you can’t figure out what to do with the Jamon send it too me I have a stand and knife ready to go! Your only other delima it would seem to me is you only have 2 cans of tuna and sardines
@rjquillin @ScottW58 What Scott said
We’ve been meaning to schedule a trip down to SD county…
Or you could host one of the next SoCal gatherings…

@rc70 Hope you enjoyed it as much as the bottle I had a week or so ago. It was singing!

2013 WineSmith Saint Laurent
@karenhynes how is that tasting?
@Winedavid49
Hi WD,
You know I generally love Clark’s wines. His Pinot is among my favorites.
This one just isn’t my cup of tea. It’s got a lovely nose, but to my palate, it reads as very tart. To the point of not really being able to pull out any particular flavor notes. Night two…same. My Facebook “memories” this morning indicated that I had a bottle exactly one year ago. I recall having the same impression then. Maybe Saint Laurent just isn’t for me.
@karenhynes @Winedavid49 I remember that there were two vintages he sold on Woot at different times, and in the more recent sale, his comments indicated that he’d gotten the hang of dealing with the grape in the latter vintage. I wasn’t too impressed with the one I bought, either.
I guess I should go back and look at CT, and the old comments, I may be mixing up the vintages.
@InFrom @Winedavid49
Yes, there’s also a 2014. I don’t think I’ve tried that one yet. I think I only have one or two.
@InFrom @karenhynes @Winedavid49
I tried both the 2013 and 2014. I think I was a rat for the 2014, actually. I was in that minority that liked the 2013 better, for many of the reasons others might not have liked it as much.
@karenhynes Looking back at the past woots, I think I bought the deal with two of the '13 and a bottle of the '07 PN. Somehow I never put it into CT. Anyway, I’m pretty sure I still have the second bottle of the Saint Laurent.

@rjquillin Well done!
48ᵒC?? Wow that’s cool. How did you finish it? Did it bring up the internal temp much? I read that 55ᵒC is the place where beef fat gets melty and therefore juiciness is maximized.
@klezman couple minutes total on a blazing hot gas grill. Didn’t measure the internal temp but they were in the pot over seven hours. Guess I could have used the IR gun to do that. These were 6~7cm quite lean cuts and plenty juicy, while retaining some texture.
Still, the cheesecake stole the show.
2006 Chateau Guiraud Sauternes
The SH cheesecake was remarkable. Light and flavorful, not at all heavy. Added some

to the mix.

I opened one of my precious Wellington Victory Reserves (a 2008). Life is good.

Finally the occasion to open a 2008 Congruence Cab. Y’all weren’t making it up - this is delicious. On the one hand I wonder what it’ll be like in 10 more years, but on the other hand why take the chance with it being so good now?

@ScottW58 Well done, baller!
Was this in April or May?
It was Monday
@ScottW58 Of course it was Monday. Doesn’t everyone have a Monday drinking list like this? Like Klezman, when I grow up, I want be like SW58. (Positive jealously).
@jmdavidson1
oh come on JM the only difference between me and you is I decided it’s time to open some of the great bottles I have cellared and I found some other people who want to open their great bottles. Win win
Now concerning Monday night’s of course I would have preferred a weekend but when 5 others say they want to pop em on Monday who am I to argue!
@ScottW58 Y’all around this weekend? We gotta pop some more corks!
@ScottW58 solid Monday if you ask me!
@ScottW58 More jealous that you have a group of (wine drinking) friends that have nice bottles of wine and willingly open them with you. I need to find such a group.
Wow, April really is my month for starting this thread.
Tonight I am drinking some Wellington White Port
Well this is a blast from the past! I had forgotten that Kyle showed up for that Hermitage night you can see his ugly mug checking out the bottles behind the leg of lamb. I traded some bottles with him a couple of weeks ago so I don’t really miss him
@ScottW58
Haha, nice! Also, 2006 Taittinger Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne is one of my all-time favorites.
@chipgreen
agreed
@ScottW58 You’ve seen Kyle? Rope him in to hanging out with us then!
@klezman
we just trade bottles every once in a while anymore.
Eh I think he’s a busy man with 3 little ones a wife and a pile of champagne
@klezman @ScottW58 I live about a mile from him and hardly ever see him anymore either. I don’t buy up champagne like he does.
Gary Vaynerchuk is selling new wines, Empathy. He’s got a White, a Rose and a Red. I got the Red and tasted along with Gary on-line. For $20 it’s a good wine, somewhere between Menage-a-Trois and High Flyer or Chappellet Mountain Cuvee. It doesn’t say, but it tastes like a good Zin blend.
@FritzCat
Did you sniffy-sniff together?
I do like Gary V (and Chappellet’s Mountain Cuvee) but trying to stick to a SIWBM despite all the good deals going around right now.
@chipgreen I did sniffy-sniff, of course. I hear you on the deals…and on the SIWBM, but I’m an abject failure in that respect. My most recent purchases were a couple of 2016 and a couple of 2017 Vintage Ports. Good years for wines that I may never drink.
@FritzCat And he doesn’t ship to Missouri.
So what’s the drinking thread? April 18, 19, or 20?
@losthighwayz
Take your pick!
