Wine Church Commandments - what you need to know...
6@Corrado referenced the Wine Church commandments in a thread, but thought it was worthy enough to have it’s own thread in case there are those that haven’t been blessed with the commandments yet:
The Ten Commandments of Wine (Revision 1.0):
Thou shalt have no beverages before me.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wine.
Thou shalt share freely of thy wine knowledge.
Thou shalt honor the vines of thine ancestors, and drinketh the fruit thereof.
Thou shalt honor the Cyber Pub and post there weekly.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against any vineyard.
Thou shalt not drinketh White Zin.
Thou shalt not serve wine in an improper vessel.
Thou shalt decant big ass wines.
Thou shalt woot at least monthly, and the number of thy woots shall be two or three.

They may require some revision. Wine.Woot is dead, long live Casemates!
@jbartus Good point! Not sure who owns the site… @Corrado, do you know?
@vaaccess which site? Casemates? Casemates is a joint venture between WCC and A Mediocre Corporation.
@jbartus http://winechurch.com
@vaaccess @jbartus
(edit name/address/phone; Sure it’s Public Record, but we can just tag @foobarski directly).
@vaaccess Yeah, I’m the one that snapped up the domain waaaay back when, and as I mentioned in my reply to @corrado, the site could definitely stand a refresh/restart. All suggestions are welcome! (I certainly don’t want it to be MY site … I’m just yr. humble implementor / domain owner.)
@Foobarski Will Manischewitz be sold at winechurch.com?
@NightGhost Wouldn’t that be more appropriate for winesynagogue.com?
(And yes, that domain is available!)
I had forgotten about this…agh so many memories. And just think, more ahead
@winefarm We need to consume way too much and leave lots so we can get some additional tasty vinegar. Perhaps after the kick-off I need to make it up for. But I got the remote party-pack. Perhaps an exchange or additional tix.
@rjquillin I think I still have some of the original vinegar. Vinegar can’t go bad can it? I mean it’s already vinegar…what’s it going to turn into ? But I think I’ll find a new mother so I can be ready just in case.
@winefarm Vinegar goes bad (although it can take a long time). It should be kept in the dark when not in use. Flat vinegar is unpleasant.
@winefarm Sure vinegar can go bad. They make White Balsamic Vinegar from White Zin.
@mike808 That’s cheating. It didn’t go bad; it started out that way.
Perhaps we should call it “reformed”. It’s a pretty good vinegar. Just a bad wine
Intentionally starting a new “reply” to discuss what our Senior Webmaster @foobarski should implement for changes.
I think the first question is, should it be useful or should it just remain a “parked domain, just for fun?”
@corrado Maybe having a bunch of the wine.woot informational and awesome threads stashed there would be a good use of the domain.
@klezman That would be good if we could scrape and archive them. Soooo many…
Gotta be a script wiz that could make that happen.
@corrado That’s Señor Webmaster to you, fellah.
@rjquillin @klezman would probably be better off asking archive.org to archive the boards and then link specifically to things you need.
@jbartus Interesting idea…how does one “ask” them? (Yes, I’m being lazy…it’s Friday night and I’m on my second beer. )
@klezman https://archive.org/about/contact.php
info@archive.org seems the best bet. I know other communities that were shutting down were able to get archive.org to send their spiders over to crawl things for posterity.
@klezman
@jbartus
I think someone at Mediocre - perhaps @Dave? - got archive.org to do a copy of Deals.Woot.com right before Woot shut it down.
I think @Dave, or whoever it was, simply tweeted at archive, asking for the crawl.
However, archive.org copies of sites do seem to vary in usability and completeness.
@f00l The data seem pretty basic for archiving. Most of the issues I see with Archive sites deal with more complicated web sites using technology that came into use within the past decade. That does not describe the woot forums.
@corrado
The deals.woot site did not copy perfectly.
If you remember something odd you are looking for at DW, you might be able to find what you want; if you are desperate and have some serious free time.
You might have to go thru various DW snapshots taken at different times and hope you get lucky.
OTOH simpler sites will prob copy beautifully.
@f00l Wasn’t Deals a very different (meh.com Beta?) forum software package?
@corrado
The deals site was the second creation of a great forum setup for this team. I really liked many things about it.
It was only “beta” in the sense that this team didn’t wish to be permanently trapped inside the octopus-stomach, and so they clawed their way out and started over with generation 3.
