Your top 3 winery visits in Sonoma
0Husband and I are visiting SF for our anniversary in mid April and have set aside a day to visit Sonoma. In the last year we’ve taken private winery tours in the Willamette Valley (Colene Clemens, Adelsheim, De Ponte) and the SLH (Odonata, Hahn). We’re not doing a private tour in Sonoma so I’m hoping you experts can give us the best 3 or 4 wineries to hit in Sonoma. We’re definitely not looking for the big boys, hoping to taste and buy stuff we can’t get in Texas. What are the little gems we can’t miss?

If you like bubblers, I’d definitely make sure Iron Horse is on your list. Beautiful winery, beautiful wines.
What style, varietals do you prefer? It can help guide the best ones to visit.
@deadlyapp @Turbs
Iron Horse for sure, even if you can buy it in TX. I hear they are only doing tastings by appointment now.
A couple other favorites around here are Pedroncelli and Ty Caton. Pedroncelli offers some of the best value you will find in Sonoma, while Ty Caton offers up new world style reds.
Also, for historical value, one of the oldest wineries in the Russian River Valley is Foppiano. They have a very small tasting room but may offer vineyard tours, at least they did for us as a group. They make some wonderful Petite Sirahs.
@chipgreen @deadlyapp We love bubbles, we’ll put Iron Horse on the list for sure. We enjoy pinot noirs, Sangiovese, cabernet franc, etc., but we have a cabernet sauvignon hole in our cellar. Any suggestions?
We just bought the Pedroncelli mix reds case here, so that would be a great one to visit. Haven’t heard of Ty Caton so I’ll put that one on the list.
Sorry this reply is posted twice, this is the first time I’ve posted on Casemates.
@chipgreen @Turbs Shit, casemates ate my reply. I’d also recommend WineSmith.
For cabs, there’s limited options in Sonoma, but Wellington is always a good bet.

My wife and I are visiting SF in mid-May and considering a similar day trip. We like a sweeter white, Riesling, Moscato. Any recommendations would certainly be appreciated! Thanks!
@kshannon1 That’s more difficult in Sonoma. You might fare better slightly further north in Anderson Valley. Navarro would be an excellent stop for your tastes.
I really enjoyed Battaglini. I loved the intimacy of it, family, old vines, and the wine! Loved the PS and Zins.
We liked pedroncelli, fappiano, iron horse, kunde, lots of fun stops in Sonoma square. If you go into carneros, I’d highly recommend campesino, and schug. Lots of good bubbly down there too!
