For those unaware, IRKs always include a reusable bag…but, they were out of stock when the IRKs shipped and instead gave everyone who purchased one a $5 coupon. Said coupon is the same for everyone, but, is account specific.
I got an IRK and the coupon worked just fine here.
We’re going to need a mystery wine thread after the bottles arrive and people can pets post what they got and then those that didn’t buy can wine and those that did buy and liked something else can wine and it’ll be almost like being over on Meh. Lol
WD as a parent: Do you want something to complain about? I’ll give you something to complain about!
All of us as his child : Yes, I do. Thank you.
This will be less of a surprise than all the other boxes under the Christmas tree.
@Springbank My homemade cider is always called Dicken’s Cider. Local radio station had great skit promoting Dicken’s Cider - think Bart Simpson! “nothing keeps gramma warmer on a winter’s day than a nice Dicken’s Cider”
Well after posting in the two jakes thread that even though my mystery case has proved disappointing I wouldn’t hesitate doing it again I did it again. In for two. In WD we trust.
@gtcharlie seriously, though, I went in for that Two Jakes mystery case and have so far poured four of the bottles down the kitchen sink.
Given that experience and seeing another web site offer multiple outdated bottles for sale today, I am really skittish about anything being offered as a “mystery” case.
@gtcharlie@lionel47@pupator I have been with WD (for better or worse) since Ty’s legendary Field Blend on Woot almost 2 decades ago.
I have gone to lengths about how they abused the random and mystery wordage. I understand the hesitance.
My question is about the Two Jakes… that, just doesn’t sound like juice Clark had input in. Not to sound condescending, but was the wine just not to your liking? 4 bottles out of a case is a wildly large amount of bad bottles. Anyway, skip the mystery, to each their own, but you seriously had to dump 4 bottles of Two Jakes? That is some of the better juice I get on this site, although I missed the mystery case.
@KNmeh7@lionel47@pupator
Speaking for myself and my wife this was not a matter of personal preferences getting involved. Both bottles we have opened were undrinkable. Unless I guess you’re tastes run to vinegar. Simply put something happened to these bottles which has caused them to taste nothing like the positive comments I have seen previously. And the second bottle we went through the whole seven day process of decanting, filtering through cheesecloth, etc.
@gtcharlie@KNmeh7@pupator Look, I won’t go into the specifics here. What I can say is that I bought the case because I have never had a sub-par Two Jakes wine. I happen to have received four bottles of the 2012 Cabernet Franc that were undrinkable.
Now, I am not really concerned about contact Two Jakes, Clark or anyone else about it. I chalk it up to a lesson learned.
And I would expect that, as someone who has ratted his honest opinion, I can also provide my honest opinion and experience outside of ratting. They and we are all adults and should be able to handle uncomfortable truths.
@KNmeh7@lionel47@pupator
Exactly. If you took it that I was insulting your palate you are wrong. I am stating what WE tasted. And for that matter smelled. These bottles are totally off. I too have ratted many times honestly saying our experiences with the wine. And as I said just above I gladly purchased two of the mystery magnums being offered today because I trust WD and this site. I am one hundred percent confident they had no idea these had turned in some way. Am I asking for a refund? Probably not. 4 more bottles left of the RR. Hoping a couple at least will be the wine you described. Will I continue to post if they are bad. You bet. Have a good day.
@gtcharlie@lionel47@pupator You actually said that the wine tasted like vinegar. So sorry. As I mentioned, I did not get in on the case. Instead of insulting my palate…
“Unless I guess you’re tastes run to vinegar.”
Ya’ll can go fuck off. Contact Clark. Do not insult my palate. BTW, sour shit is where it is at. Brettomycans, Lactobacillus, and Pediococcus FTW.
@KNmeh7 really, it isn’t all that serious. I’m not sure why you take it personally but maybe just chill and take it down a few notches. Bad bottles happen and we pointed it out.
One of the reasons I enjoy coming here is to read other perceptions. Up to now, I don’t think I’ve ever run into obscenities on this forum. Sad that it happened today.
@gtcharlie@KNmeh7@lionel47@pupator He said you’d only like this if your taste ran to vinegar, which was indeed a prominent taste in the bottle that I opened. In fact, I suggested ‘pairing it’ with olive oil and seasonings as a salad dressing.
No, it isn’t a matter of taste preferences. WD and Clark have acknowledged the problem, and from what I’ve read (and experienced) it seems that bottles are either good or bad from the start - no partials.
@gtcharlie@KNmeh7@lionel47@pupator@rpstrong
Isn’t it clear by now that some of the bottles (maybe a large percentage) have a microbial problem? No-added sulfur wine can have that issue, which is why it can be hard to find.
FWIW, I also saw the “unless your tastes run to vinegar” as a needless ad hominem but c’est la vie.
I know that the bottles I received in my first batch several years ago have been fine thus far. We’ll see how these 4 come out, but I know I should keep them separate.
@klezman@KNmeh7@lionel47@pupator@rpstrong
Danger of posting in these forums is that someone can always interpret what you say in a manner in which it was not intended. My tastes run to vinegar was simply a reflection of what I tasted and not meant to imply someone elses tasting of this same wine. I get it. People have this wine in their cellar and received it in this shipment and everything is great. Certainly was not implying those people couldnt taste the wine for what it was and that their bottles had the vinegar taste and they simply didnt have the palate to taste it. Anyway I hope I get a couple of nice magnums…
…and this Two Jakes of Diamonds Cabernet Franc was not at all palatable even after decanting for a week, and sifting through all the sediments using cheesecloth.
FWIW, I’me losing faith in Casemates, and Clark (Winesmith/Two Jakes) although I had good experiences in the past buying Clark’s wines from Casemates and earlier wine.woot.
So either Casemates and these wineries enhance their quality control checks before putting any wine on sale, or it won’t be long when many of us will opt-out to other buying options. Since past four months or so I have switched to buying these cases from Total Wine.
@abhiabhi@gtcharlie@KNmeh7@lionel47@pupator@rpstrong you had to pour out Tercero and Gard ?!
I think the problem is with you, not the wine. And yes, I have the same Tercero case. Larry has never produced a flawed wine.
My purchasing has dropped to almost zero for the same reason. My posting has dropped to the same level because of the handful of daily-loyalists of this forum who simply cannot abide someone sharing a negative experience. No matter how many of us there are, the problem is always with us, never the bottle of wine.
@pupator couldn’t be father from the truth. I’m commenting that I’ve had dozens of bottles of Tercero and regardless of preferences there has literally never been a bad/flawed bottle. To say it was only suitable for putting down the drain is just ludicrous.
I haven’t had the Gard wines so I’m not in a position to opine.
Clark’s wines can definitely be polarizing, so I’m not finding any fault there either.
How many times in the last 30 days have I thought to myself: “OK this is the last time”? At least I earn credit card points?

First time for wine on Meh and I’m in for 6 Cheers and 2 magnums! I’m normally a Naked guy (hope talk of that isn’t forbidden) but excited to increase my cellar. And by wine cellar I mean the shopping boxes on a pallet in my basement.
@benjyhe The foam boxes are great for slowing daily temperature variation (more important than ‘cellar temperature’). My ‘cellar’ is stacked foam boxes (sideways!) in my basement.
Get a CASE of the Cheer. They’ll last and get better for decade, but cheap enough to protect the rest of your stash. DECANT heavily and leave half a bottle for a few days later.
@benjyhe@wardad After my duct taped together carton stacks began to sag and tilt, I built basic shelving custom sized to tightly fit the cartons. I now have secure storage for around 250 bottles in/on two units.
@rpstrong Mind posting a photo of your setup? I’m looking for a more elegant situation that what I’ve got (stashed anywhere there is floorspace in my basement)
@skubaryk A handy thing about the 2/3/4/6/12 bottle cartons is that are very adaptable to available width. All of my enclosed shelf spaces are four bottles high, but one unit is eight bottles wide and the other is seven. The horizontal rails extend below the shelves (to the ground on the bottom) in order to be a backstop for stacked cartons.
@rpstrong@skubaryk very nice construction
I’ve got the same setup but on a wire rack and no boxes, only foam. My overflow containers (and there’s too many!) still have the box, on the floor, NEVER stacked more than 3 high
@rpstrong@skubaryk@ttboy23 I built an enclosure against my basement wall using left over pieces of structural plywood(OSB)/foam panels, with larger pieces to go across the front to seal it up thermally. Used to have just boxes stacked up in it, but got too nervous about playing ‘bottle Jenga’ as I pulled out random bottles, so I eventually found wire racks that fit perfectly! Temps vary very slowly winter-summer, but hold steady without fluctuations. Works great.
In for two 2-packs! I’m asking Santa very, very politely for a Victory Mag if there’s any left… we have a 2001 - 2009 vertical in magnum, minus the 2004, so I’d really love one of those. Or a 2012 would be super solid as well.
Really going out on a limb, but a '91, '94, or '97 wouldn’t hurt my feelings either Any Wellington would be incredible, but to be honest I’m excited for whatever the cellar rats toss in the box.
Thanks @WineDavid49 for the amazing deals and surprises!
I was on the fence with this one. Ordered 2 cases of Cheer last night to add to the 4 other cases of recent offerings headed my way… Decided to say fuck it today, and ordered this too, the mystery was too appealing…
Now I need to find strategic places around the house to stash all this wine so the wife doesn’t realize how much I ordered the last 2 weeks… This happens every December while I’m religiously checking to see when the holiday wine is available…
@hscottk I tried to cancel the single as you suggest, but the cancel button was nowhere to be found. The only options open to me were to sit on that single single order or place a second single order.
@hscottk@rpstrong Frankly, I’m not going to whine to CM about this. I was only given the option to buy a single mag, and if I didn’t like it I could easily have passed. But it is frustrating that this offer was a moving target.
@rpstrong@simtel20@Zortapa I think the idea was to order a double when it became available again (it went in and out of stock) then ask support to cancel your order of the single bottle.
So casemates friends or not so friends…If yall happen to have a few like…2 bottle of 2 Jake’s to put with my order…I won’t cry except with joy. I only just discovered 2 Jake’s and now it’s gone forever and I missed the last offering and I am exceptionally sad. I beg.
I tried to buy a two pack my last night in Guatemala. The internet was being jankity so it was difficult getting the order placed. After a minute I checked my orders and there was one listed so I put my phone away. Just now I looked and there are two orders placed so that’s four Magnums total. I don’t know that I would have ordered twice but now that it’s done I’m a little excited and hopeful to see what I get. Good or bad, I blame poor internet connections.
Anyone get shipping info? Delivery window in offer was this week and I’m hoping it doesn’t go into next week since I have wine delivered to the office, which is closed for most of next week.
@dirtdoctor I see a couple tracking numbers from WCC in transit in the UPS app. It’s either one tracking number for each case I got or one for the 2 cases of Cheer and 1 for the mystery magnums. Might check the UPS app. They probably just haven’t updated the order statuses.
@dirtdoctor@maht87 I ordered one case of Cheer and one two-pack of mystery magnums. Only one active WCC tracking number listed as 39lbs, which is a typical case from past experience. So I think the Cheer is on the way.
@dirtdoctor@rjquillin@Ten9Eight cheer will arrive by christmas. mystery magnum is logistically very challenging and taking longer in the que. i think we’ll get them all out this week.
@Winedavid49 So disappointed to read this thread as I skipped the Cheers offer on Meh & the Mystery Magnum due to my holiday travel only to see it probable would have worked out…so my woe win some lose some. Hope you have wonderful holidays & thank you for providing us Casematers such great offers
@dawnlac@klezman@Winedavid49 Well, worse, the delivery folk gotta get a sig, so this (and related waiting when I might not be proverbially nigh) is going to make them hate seeing my house.
@dirtdoctor They ruined XMAS. Was supposed to arrive yesterday and they didnt bother to ship. “Chad” in CS was exceedingly rude to me and just didnt care
[I’m fortunate enough to live in an area where porch piracy is unheard of, and where my regular driver doesn’t even bother knocking - he just leaves it like any other package.]
Sorry things are delayed, lot of things have been going on the past week or two, but most of them should have their labels printed yesterday/today and be headed out soon.
WT? I had mine shipped to the place I will be for the holidays. Now the estimated delivery date is on the 29th - AFTER I leave. I guess these two shipments will be for naught, and then returned to the sender. So much for the estimated delivery date.
@ThomasF It seems that your suggestion has fallen on deaf ears. Here’s the official reply to the support ticket that I submitted. “This order has already shipped. You’ll have to contact UPS to forward this one. We are unable to do it from our end.”
@Zortapa Sorry, just responded, gonna pass it along to WCC fulfillment to see if they can get it sorted. CS general policy is that we can’t adjust addresses once placed/shipped, so that was the initial response.
@ThomasF@Zortapa I have found with WCC UPS shipments, only WCC can redirect to ~other than a location that appears on a list~ when you attempt to request “hold at location”, the recipient can do that type of redirect, after a first delivery attempt, to an approved location somewhat near the original ship-to address.
Too many words to try to explain a simple action.
You can redirect for hold to a nearby facility, but not to one not on the list when you try; WCC must request that.
A bit of a bummer on this. Ordered with the expectation of having for holiday festivities we are hosting and shipment scheduled to arrive on 27th. Hopefully they are great bottles of juice and all will be forgotten!
My tracking says “ Delivery has been rescheduled to the next business day due to holiday closures.” anyone know what this means? it was on the ups truck for delivery
My order was supposed to arrive yesterday. They didnt bother to ship it. “Chad” in CS was downright uncaring and rude to me. This was bought as a Christmas gift and “Chad” could not care less. What kind of customer service is this? I want them to cancel all my open oders. The worst part is how little they care.
The order is over a week late and Xmas is ruined for someone. Then “Chad” in CS was downright rude to me about this. In the course of a year over the four Meh sites I spend literally THOUSANDS of dollars. Why they want to alienate me goes beyond logic. I just cancelled three Casemates orders and decided against ordering a fourth – todays’ new listing. This means these guys just lost close to a thousand bucks TODAY when they could have avoided it by showing some genuine remorse. It’s bad business.
@arfdawg could you be clear on what, exactly, he did to be rude? Email is hardly a great communication method for conveying nuance and in my experience it’s more often than not the recipient who grafts on their own interpretation than the sender being rude or otherwise nasty.
@klezman “Chad” got increasingly rude, inappropriate and obnoxious. It wa clear he didnt care one bit. THen it got escalated and it wasnt much better. They should have just refunded me. PERIOD. I’ve been spending THOUSANDS with the various Meh sites. And that’s how I’m treated?Stay away from these clowns. They don’t care.
@arfdawg you also didn’t actually answer my question. I don’t know what you consider to be increasingly rude. Did he call you names? Tell you to go suck a lemon?
You’re showing a surprisingly large amount of hate for a relatively simple issue that WD signalled early on. And I’m sure any recipient of a gift would be understanding of a doing delay making it late for xmas.
@klezman Learn the English language. I expect a refund because CASMATES did not honor their contract with me which promised delivery YESTERDAY when thye didn’t didnt even bother to ship it. And then they were derisive about the entire ordeal. I’m not paying. This is shear incompetence and if you think it isnt there is somethign WRNG with you, so just slink away.
@arfdawg@Winedavid49
I have happily purchased 2248 bottles from Casemates, that I know of. Are there a few that didn’t live up, sure; will I go away given one bad experience, or even a few? Nope.
@arfdawg at the risk of feeding the troll, the is no contract for delivery by a certain date. And your reactions to all this seem to suggest that your behaviour is no better than my 7 year old’s, who responds to everything they don’t like with “you’re rude!”
Like others who’ve posted here, I’ve been purchasing from WCC since 2008. I’m not afraid to speak out when they make a mistake (see, e.g., sending out wine during Thanksgiving week when that wasn’t in the delivery window). But every problem was resolved to my satisfaction. Every single one. It’s not their fault that you have unreasonable expectations.
@arfdawg@rjquillin@Winedavid49 arf I’m guessing you regularly receive what you interpret as bad customer service, and it’s clearly a result of you being an asshole.
@arfdawg Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Fascinating to me that you spend so much time projecting negativity. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
@coolac5 LOL! Says the troll whose entire post is negative. Thanks for the best laff yet. Too bad we’re laffing AT you and not WITH you. Change your scren name to UNcooldoper
@arfdawg I’ll give you a thousand bucks to quit bitching and never post on any of these sites again. The fact that you’re shitting all over what people received with your fake total wine prices shows that you’re definitely a liar. So, whatever happened between you and Chad, I’m on team Chad.
@arfdawg@klezman I know the English language quite well, and I noticed a few strange things in your usage of the language. An estimated delivery date, or range of dates, is not a promise or a contract. Strangely enough, it’s only an estimate. Whenever something is guaranteed to be delivered by a certain date, typically a holiday like Christmas, they will specifically say it in the listing, or mention it in the comments. If the person for whom you purchased these wines as a gift is as unreasonable and unhinged as you, then I can see why you’re upset, since it’s almost certain that you’ll be stabbed or beaten if they don’t receive their gift on time. I’ll ignore your spelling mistakes, since you have more serious issues with the English language. Please don’t consider this or any other posts of mine to be a promise or contract.
@arfdawg@coolac5 who is the “we” that is laughing? It seems painfully obvious that you’re alone in whatever position you’ve taken. I’d be laughing at you if I didn’t suspect mental illness to be the cause of your anger. Just kidding! I’m laughing at you despite your mental illness!
My order shipped yesterday and arrived today (hooray for being in the bay area!). I received a magnum of 2014 Roessler Pinot Noir Hein Family Vineyard, along with a bonus bottle of 2019 Urgency Pinot Noir. Can’t say I have heard of either of these before, but this offer was a reasonable price for a magnum and I look forward to trying them both!
@Teim that magnum is a great score! Excellent California style Pinot but always with ample acidity. I think the bonus is a daily drinker based on my recollection of pricing.
@Teim Glad YOU got it on time. I didnt, and I had to deal with CHAD in CS who was a comoete jerk to me. I want a refund. I cancelled all my orders from here. Like a thousand bucks. Not a reputable company
@arfdawg I don’t really agree with you. I’ve been buying wine from WCC for 10+ years and whatever occasional issue I’ve had has been rectified.
As noted above this offer was never promised by Christmas, and from past experience random offers take longer to pack. I bought 2 orders, one is a Christmas gift and I bought it fingers crossed. If it doesn’t make it by Christmas I’m not losing sleep over it. I’m on the west coast and both orders will be delivered tomorrow.
I’m sorry you had a bad experience with this one but I’m guessing the rudeness if it happened went both ways.
Mine was shipped, scheduled for next Friday. Not sure if that takes consideration for the holiday it won’t be moving.
Cheer arrived today. Opened a bottle with my in laws. It’s good stuff. Even with diminished taste and smell from this dumb cold I could tell it was good. Also, mom downed her first glass almost immediately. She approves
@jammyt Funny, I got the EXACT same four bottles. I’m rather disappointed. Pinot is the one varietal that we dislike and the two mags are for me “Meh” at best. But that’s the chance taken on the mystery buys.
@jammyt
Big fan of the Wine Club. No opinion on the others specifically but did not care much for a Fossil Point Rose we bought previously. OTOH, have enjoyed the Vinum wines I have tried.
Got 2 sets:
Mag of 2014 Coppo Pomorosso
Mag of 2015 Schug Carneros
750 of 2019 Urgency Pinot Noir
750 of 2020 Metz road Pinot Noir
The coppa is a great value here
The schug is meh for value but getting an 8 year old mag which should be decent stuff is pretty nice
The urgency I opened with urgency to go with dinner tonight and it’s damned good. No clue on the other 750.
Not insane QPR overall but I am quite satisfied. It’ll probably all be gone by the end of the holidays
@klezman@rjquillin. Yeah yeah. Still in the same area workin the same job but I had a kid and hit my cellar max around the same time a few years back so have pulled back. Still tracking the deals on occasion but rarely pull the trigger. I have put a good dent in the local cellar though. I may be under 20 cases instead of over 30. Kinda makes me feel old though when I have bottles of Napa Cab that I bought new that are now to be considered well aged and even getting a bit old (I have quite a few ‘05s hanging around!)
Thank those of you who’ve gotten them so far for posting what you’ve got I wanted to watch because I had to do a hard pass this year. And don’t antagonize the troll
Got mine earlier than I expected! Help me out folks, I’d love to hear your thoughts on these since I’ve never been good and knowing how long to wait before uncorking a wine.

@jcpseattle that’s an excellent score. Hawk and Horse is making great stuff, and if you’re in to celebrity wine things, I think it’s Richard Peterson who started it.
The Monkey Second Prize isn’t shabby either!
@jcpseattle I couldn’t help myself and drank one of the Wrath wines tonight. I’m glad I read reviews on vivino first and waited until dessert to serve it. It was amazing, but super sweet and poppy like cherry soda. Definitely worth drinking but I would have been upset trying to pair it with our lamb dinner.
Got a totally unlabeled magnum, no clue what it is!

@CruelMelody it’s different than that one. One of the pictures above was just clear enough that I could make out 52% Syrah, 27% Tannat, 21% Tempranillo. Or maybe 57%/22%. Couldn’t tell how high octane.
@jmdavidson1 My 2 2-packs have been sitting somewhere in Illinois since Christmas Eve morning, en route to NEOhio. Awesome! #bigbrownstinkslikebigbrown
@Winedavid49
Hey, nothing you could do, it’s the warehouse guys.
You load boxes, they sit, and then you slap labels on them. Absolutely good with the mags; a bit of variety in the 750’s would have helped tho…
@klezman@Winedavid49 here’s the WE rating for it if it helps:
This is the 30th anniversary edition of this wine and it doesn’t disappoint. It opens with intense dark-skinned berry, exotic spice, blue flower and French oak aromas. The savory and fresh palate delivers crushed red cherry, cassis, licorice and espresso flavors structured with fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity lends balance while a mineral note lingers on the finish. Drink through 2029. — Kerin O’Keefe
Well, erm…this was definitely an unexpected result. Apparently, I ordered twins! 🫤
Seeing as I know shit about wine, I saw this as a sweet way to experience a bunch of different stuff while knowing I was at least getting decent value for the cash being spent… definitely didn’t expect to get two of the same though!
Of course, I also have no idea what I’ve just received so I’ll leave it to the experts here to tell me if I should be excited or not.
Another question, if ya don’t mind…link says to drink by 2023. I know that’s not exactly an expiration date, but, any guidance on what that actually means? Is it suggesting it goes bad, flavor-wise, by then?
@PHRoG@rjquillin CT drinking window dates are, for me, vastly too short. And these are in magnum, so they age more slowly (and a bit differently) than regular size bottles. With a 2013 I’d guess you have at least until the end of the decade before it drops off.
Thanks to both of you for helping this ignorant chap out here…def leaning into the more excited category on the score now.
Someday I hope to have the time to learn more about this stuff, it has always been interesting to me, there’s just soooo much info out there on this subject is overwhelming each time I try to go down that rabbit hole.
Magnums:

750s:
2020 Beau Vignette Cab Sauv
2017 Center of Effort Pinot Noir
2018 Peterson Red Wine Blend
2009 Woot Cellars Blitzen (!!)
Now the bad news, the Wellington is leaking
Coincidentally, the only other wine we ever had arrived leaking was a magnum of 2001 Victory from the Woot days… we will be enjoying it soon, does anyone have an opinion on how long we can wait before it starts to oxidize? I’d like to let the sediment settle as much as possible but also minimize the degradation.
Huge thanks to @Winedavid49 and the rest of the Casemates crew for the amazing offer! We are really excited!
@knlprez@rjquillin yeah, I think you win so far!
I’ve had lots of good luck with leaky bottles not having any real flaws. And like Ron said, there’s not much wine missing from the bottle. Probably bodes well for the rest of the contents.
The Hawk and Horse is good stuff. That’d be great to see a sale here instead of Wine Spies.
@klezman@rjquillin I’m really happy with what we received! A couple familiar faces and some known quality juice. Even if the Wellington is a bust and oxidized, I’m a happy camper!
@jmdavidson1 we typically like cabs with at least 10 years of age on them, so it’s going to be stuffed into the back of the cellar and forgotten about for about a decade
@rjquillin here’s my assessment of the cork, but I’d appreciate any knowledge you would care to share!
I took a peak at the cork, and the prognosis is not great. To me, it looks like the cork failed and has been leaking for some time (see the first pic), and possibly leaking from a second spot more recently, possibly during transport (second pic).
The cork is extremely soft; it’s going to be tricky to extract even with an Ah-So. We have it standing up now to drink New Year’s Eve. I would have preferred to wait longer, but that cork is shot. Hopefully it’s still good, but we will see in a few days!
Here’s some pics before I wiped off the residue and of the capsule:
@rjquillin The long vein has definitely been leaking for a while, but the other side also looks like it was leaking. I am fully expecting an intact wine with great maturity. Now we just need to decide what to drink next to it… I think we have a couple 2003 Cuvee Rs remaining… begins rummaging through the cellar
@knlprez@rjquillin My Welly signed Syrah (2001?) had a leaking cork, similar, didn’t touch it, opened it 5/2021, nothing lost, no oxidation. I would have faith
@knlprez@rjquillin I had it NOT upright, but had the same amount of leakage you had, and I came out ok on my mag… was really concerned but I was delighted it wasn’t a loss.
I had mine since the day I got it, so from either here or at w00t.
@knlprez@rjquillin I just checked my remaining Mag, also a leaker , but the other one had a protruded cork (it had popped up some, vs this is one is flush), so we will see when I open up how it is, whenever I decide to do that.
@bunnymasseuse@rjquillin All our bottles are horizontal in the cellar, minus for a couple days when standing them up before opening to allow sediment to settle. I was asking in regards to the leaking cork. Ideally we would wait a couple weeks at least post-shipment before opening a bottle, especially if it has sediment and some age on it. I think you both have me convinced we should be safe to wait on this one.
2021 Mother Clone Zin
The pomorosso that it seems so many folks are getting
Bonus bottles
2019 Friends Sonoma Red
2019 Urgency Pinot
I won’t use the word ‘disappointed’ exactly. These all seem like decent wines, as long as the Barbera and out, and I’ll happily drink them. If the Barbera is a bust….
But not a ton of value here really at the price point.
Curious and hoping for assistance. Received Magnum Farce in one of my packs and on CT, the magnum lists for only $54. The details on this deal were that each magnum was a minimum of $80 retail. Any wine club members wanna weigh in? CM experts? WD?
@shrimp74 well his website is strange but the magnum was listed at 120.00 last time it was posted. I’m hoping to receive that magnum in my set, he makes great wine.
@CruelMelody Thanks much for the info. Bought the last deal (I think) that he offered on here with the Riesling-esque magnum bottle of Petite Syrah from his wine club and 2 bottles of Constructo. Haven’t touched them yet, and think this bottle will also have a nice long rest before I think about opening.
@jmdavidson1 Hell no! I am disappointed in a lot of these reveals. Except for the 3 Wellingtons, I am not exactly seeing anything that screams “WOAH!” I think, at this point, everyone knows what is coming, which is sad.
I don’t even want to open my two. If I were a betting man, it is a Pomorosso and a Schug.
@jmdavidson1@KNmeh7 Yeah, I’ve seen some highs and lows here. Much as I’m a long-time Pedroncelli fan, I would be disappointed to get a mag of the Mother Clone and a 750 of Friends Red. But seeing that at least helps me tamp down my expectations. Box is on the truck today.
@InFrom@jmdavidson1@KNmeh7 so i’m pretty bummed we messed up with the redundant bottles. i packed many of these myself, the multiple offers were the first to be run and we believe there was a misunderstanding on instruction and are a handful impacted. i plan to do something about that. the largest purchasers should have all had different wines. huge mistake. my fault.
Received mine today as well:
Mags:
2014 Schug Caneros Pinot Noir
Hein Pinot Noir - this is my best guess based on posted pictures since bottle is stuck in styrofoam and i don’t want to make a mess in my office. Will know for sure when I peel away the styrofoam back home
750ml:
2019 Xavier Vignon Lirac - Know nothing about this one. Google says it’s 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah from Lirac region on west side of Rhone River
2019 Clay Shannon Petite Sirah
@dirtdoctor I had a heck of a time getting the Hein mag out of the foam, even tried one person holding the neck of the bottle and the other trying to pull the foam away. I finally had to cut the foam to get a little wiggle room.
“This insider rat asked WD just where are these mags coming from & when he rattled off the wineries, I was like !!! Happy Holidays CMers & Cheers!”
Can you explain to me the second two exclamations? I see a Wellington (impossible to get, a true gem) and then. . . average mags. Are we in for something crazy when the ships come in? Otherwise, seriously? "Like !!! for a Pedroncelli Zin mag. That barely makes the 80 dollar promise. No one even knows about that Barbera, except “folio!” as if that is convincing.
@danidani12@WCCWineGirl The ONLY people that have received a Wellington are people who bought two 2x. That is not a coincidence.
So, to tell me the warehouse people made the coincidence is either to acknowledge that some shipments get the packing instructions from the high ups, or tell us we are stupid. If you did not order 4 magnums, you are not going to get a Wellington. That is my summary.
There is nothing to be had here other than what you see. Sigh.
@danidani12@KNmeh7@WCCWineGirl
Ah, the world of conspiracy theories that we now live in. Maybe it could be just as simple as they have a statistically greater chance to receive a Wellington or that it’s just happen chance. Not everything has to be someone plotting for/against a certain group of people.
@danidani12@dirtdoctor@WCCWineGirl “Conspiracy theory?” WTF are you on about? I am simply pointing out that the ONLY PEOPLE who got a Wellington ORDERD 2x 2x.
No fucking “conspiracy.” You think an archeologist who notices all this shit happened to these fossils at this date is a conspiracy theorist?
I am observing, and made an observation. Until ANYONE who ordered less than 2x 2x gets a Wellington, then yea, my assumption is valid.
@KNmeh7 I reread your post and it clearly states that you assumed that the “higher ups” told warehouse folks that only certain orders could/would receive a bottle that you view as more valuable than others. By definition, you are suggesting people conspired to achieve a certain outcome, hence a “conspiracy theory”. You did not just state an observation.
The comment that your assumption/theory is valid unless someone that ordered 1 set receives a Wellington is not entirely accurate. That assumption/theory is indeed possible, but 2 data points is not statistically significant and does not validate a theory. Without having more data/information, I’d suggest the randomness of packing and shipping is likely the more probable theory.
@danidani12@KNmeh7@WCCWineGirl just curious how much Wellington you thought there was to go around?
I asked above and the answer was “not much”, so if you got your hopes up for a wellington that was probably in error.
I agree I’d be less than totally happy with a magnum of Pedroncelli or Scott Harvey red label (tasty as both of those are), but that’s always the thing with a mystery offer.
As for what was packed where, imo the real conspiracy evidence would be if only old timer favoured names for them. I don’t see that happening here.
@danidani12@klezman@KNmeh7@WCCWineGirl if it makes you feel better, I’m sure the Wellington was well under $80 retail for a magnum when released, unless it was a mag of Victory.
@danidani12@klezman I have seen 4 Wellingtons. All 4 were from people that ordered 2x 2x. (Including the 750)
I never assumed I would get a wellington. Do not put words in my mouth. My point is that as of now, there is nothing of note except for the Wellingtons. No other fantastic bottles. This was a bummer.
@danidani12@klezman Why the attention to Wellington? Um, because you cannot buy them anymore. Peter was an active member of the community. The wine is revered among us wooters/mates.
Are you seriously questioning why I am pointing out people got unicorns versus wines I can probably call up the winery today and ask if they have a magnum of whatever sitting around and they probably will. It isn’t even a comparison. You have average magnums (I mean, except for the Griffin, the Scott Harvey is his red label) that can be had by anyone, so of course people will focus on the seemingly only ones that aren’t the standards that everyone is getting.
People are excited to get woot cellar wines. The cheapest of the cheap. It isn’t about whatever MSRP the winery stuck on it and couldn’t sell it for, it is about uniqueness and this has all the uniqueness of a strip mall in suburbia.
@raj810 thanks
I’ve seen a 12, 13, and now a 14!
I’ve had Roessler Pinot before and can safely say you’ll be satisfied
Their 2018 of this bottle goes for $54 on their website (750 ml) so I suspect a magnum would no for $120 or so.
Plus we received aged wine that should be great so long as it was stored properly
I only ordered one mag (glad I did btw) because I never have a reason to open one and have about a dozen sitting around. That being said, I’m happy with the 2012 Roessler PN that I received. The Urgency PN 750 will be a gift.
I would have been happy with a Wellington,Tolosa, or Schill wine club blend but disappointed with a Meadowcroft, Ped Zin or Folio Barbera tbh
If I had ordered two mags and had received identical ones then I’d really be upset
@losthighwayz It is like the troll was the canary in the coal mine. We all defended the site, then… stomachs this mediocrity. I am mostly pissed at @WCCWineGirl she has some explaining to do with her comment that when she heard what was being shitted out. I mean, shipped out, she was !!!.
I have not received mine, and if I end up with Wellingtons and… ? I don’t even know what else is the “best” bottle. I will not eat crow. Why? Even if I do, I am pissed off at other’s orders. Not in a good way.
You (WD and Alice) made this seem like you had some crazy magnums from your stalwarts. I have never seen an Onesta mag, or a Gard, or a… you get the idea.
Except for the Wellington, these have been absolutely abysmal. There is NOTHING from anyone of note that is interesting or one-off. Everyone is getting the same crap, and it isn’t 80 dollars + a bottle.
@KNmeh7 Wow, I think the only time was close to being that pissed off receiving wine was the time UPS damaged 1/2 my case repacked the undamaged bottles and claimed it wasn’t them.
@KNmeh7@Winedavid49 Some of us agree and others might totally agree. Seeing what has been received, the satisfaction range is wide. I happen to fall on the not satisfied side. I think the site has taken a credibility hit from this offer. (Just my 2 cents).
@jmdavidson1@KNmeh7@Winedavid49 Well, if there is indeed a credibility lack, I look forward to the next mystery case (after ordering the dubious foreign mystery case, and then the following mystery case “redemption” that included many Wellingtons).
@jmdavidson1@KNmeh7@Winedavid49 the value across magnums is wide but I’d say all are worth the price of admission though QPR will vary. I only ordered one magnum but I would honestly be disappointed if I had ordered more and received the exact same magnum twice (doubles) like many who’ve posted did
@jmdavidson1@KNmeh7@losthighwayz@Winedavid49 The listing specifically guaranteed no dupes in the same box. That should have told you it’s a likely possibility if you order 2. On the bright side, if you love the wine you still have another!
Also, the thing about the internet is that you’re more likely to hear from the folks who are bothered vs the guy who got dupe Victory magnums and spent the rest of his day buying lottery tickets rather than complain on the internet. There could be plenty of non dupes.
@slowbie Thanks slowbie. I opened the Tosscana and it was quite good. The Hawk Horse Cab is pricey so I think I scored even if the other two aren’t great.
750s:
2017 - Center of Effort Pinot Noir
2011 - Woot Cellars Phat Goose!!!
2019 - The Messenger Cab
2018 - Peterson Red Wine
I’m always a sucker for mystery offers and glad I participated in this one again. Would be nice to see a mystery IH offering, similar to the one a few years ago, for New Years day
Since 2009 I have purchased what I thought was every woot cellars offering, but it turns out I was wrong! Looking forward to giving the Phat Goose a try in a few weeks.
@sosptuba phat goose had its own song as i recall. I know there was a random link to a boc written on his arm or something. I never bought the wine, but did get the boc. Lol
I think all of these are way above my normal price point, and all seem to be a bargain for what I’ve paid, so I’m quite pleased that I’ll have these to try out.
I’m satisfied for a mystery offering. Would have loved a Roessler Hein, but I have a couple 750s left from my time in their club. @winedavid49 they have to be ready to clear out the cellar since they haven’t made any vineyard designated stuff for years. @klezman the wine club swilly msg says MV 2021/2 57%syrah 22% tannat 21% Tempranillo no visible alcohol %.
@InFrom Just read the reviews of the Le Vigne Cab from when it sold here back in June. Wildly divergent rattage. I’m hoping my experience is similar to the first rat’s, sounds like it would be right up my alley.
@rjquillin The website has the 2020s… red
label $30, Griffin $38, and J&S reserve white label $48. So looks like the mid level, unless the Griffin includes a discount since it’s club purchase only. Either way, looking forward to trying this one in 5 or 10 years!
@rjquillin from the SH mystery magnum offer. You were right after all!
Curious Scott, how do the Griffin bottlings differ stylistically from the other red/white and other labels we’re more familiar with?
rjquillin said Thu, Dec 17th 2020 at 2:25pm ET
rjquillin They are made to be just above the J&S Reserve wines in quality. Usually about 300 cases.
ScottHarveyWine said Thu, Dec 17th 2020 at 2:50pm ET
Really disappointed with this offer. Not necessarily because of the wine I received but because the redundancy. I purchased two of the 2 magnum, several hours apart from each other, and my dad bought two of the 1 magnum offers. All shipped to the same address but under two accounts. We received:
3 x Hawk and Horse Vineyards - 2014 Lake County Cab Mag
3 x Meadowcroft - 2021 Napa Cab Mag
3 x Peterson - 2018 Vignobles Red Wine 750ml
3 x woot cellars (various - 2005, 2009 and 2014)
The most exciting part were the woot cellars which, according to CT reviews, are most likely way past prime.
I purchase probably close to 90% of all my wine through casemates and have done so long before Amazon bought the previous site. I’m ok with not getting the most sought after (Wellington, Roessler Noceto, etc.), but getting essentially three duplicate offers, which mirror what many others received, again makes this neither a mystery, nor random, whatever you want to call it.
I, as a customer, could absolutely care less about logistics. You market it as one thing, but fulfill it as another and then blame logistics, or the warehouse, or whatever. But again, it simply doesn’t matter to me why it happens. Previously, with the old site, these types of offers were almost always guaranteed to be great. Three out of four I’ve purchased on casemates have been terrible (international mystery), conniving and possibly half terrible (two jakes), and now just unexceptional and boring for some. The only one which I’ve been happy with was the mystery after the international mystery debacle (amazing but necessary to make amends).
I have long recommended this and the previous site to literally every person I know who enjoys wine. I can no longer do so, at least without an asterisk regarding these types of offers, in good faith.
It’s a shame really and makes me more sad than mad, but really…it’s both.
@maht87
Yes it was. The 2009 was the Tøøthstejnn. The saving graces for me (even though they were probably around 4 or 5 bucks a bottle when released )
@klezman
Yah, I’m not disappointed in the wine itself. I’ve not had it but if I wanted half a case I would have split a case like I usually do. These offers are meant to be exciting and as mentioned by a casemate employee pre purchase, elicit FOMO. I’ve had quite the opposite experience
@bedenny I’m super jealous… If I remember correctly, that stuff was great. I’m really curious how it is now. I’ve never been able to hold onto them longer than maybe 5 years… Now I’m kicking myself for not ordering multiple double magnums, lol. But I just got a 2 pack since I had 6 cases on the way at that point. Had I only known…
I went back through my old Woot purchase history today to look at the stuff I bought back to the OG 2000 Rinfrescante launch in 2005. I’ve never been disappointed with the holiday wines (aside from not ordering enough), let alone anything I’ve ordered that @Winedavid49 has put up since the beginning.
It’s probably stupid of me to get excited over the “4 or 5 bucks a bottle when released” wines, but I guess I’ve been drinking the Kool-Aid far too long now…
@maht87
It’s yours if you want it, free of charge. Send me a message. It’s definitely one of the things that I was excited about, but likely over the hill and I have no emotional attachments to it. Now if it was Wellington….
@bedenny@maht87 bless you maht7. and as i said in a previous post. i’m super bummed we messed up with the redundant bottles. i packed many of these myself, the multiple offers were the first to be run and we believe there was a misunderstanding on instruction and a handful impacted. i plan to do something about that. the largest purchasers should have all had different wines. huge mistake. my fault.
2014 Woot Cellars Large Bold Text
2018 Peterson Zero Manipulation
2x 2019 The Messenger Cab
I’m pretty thrilled with what I got and I’d definitely be disappointed if I got pairs of everything, but some of the hate in here is a little puzzling. Swap the wellington and large bold text with more generic choices and I’d have a selection of some of the most common wines people have gotten but I’d still be pretty happy. Maybe I’m just a chump, but at least I’m a happy chump I guess.
@jmdavidson1 Spectacular! I am gonna jump in and buy a case of a wine that did not sell, and bundle two 750s for less than 80+ retail. I mean, there has to be a market for that, right? It is good juice?
Oooohhhh, you are going to tell me it isn’t that special and they firesale it at that price so the MSRP is stupid. So anyone who got meadowcroft knows it isn’t that special.
@danidani12@jmdavidson1 not necessarily. And certainly not at MSRP, for whatever that’s worth. A magnum (or any size other than 750 ml) usually has a premium because it requires more manual labour to bottle and the bottles themselves cost more. Just because they’re generally rare.
But nonetheless, if this retailed at $25 I’d expect the magnum to be $55-60.
If their regular bottles have a SRP of $40 then the magnum is probably $85. But we all know there are many wineries out there with a totally fictional SRP (eg wine Smith).
@jmdavidson1 I went to Meadowcroft this fall and thought their whole line up was pretty solid. I’m happy with the magnum I got on the offer here at the price I paid IMHO.
@CorTot@jmdavidson1@danidani12 Napa Cab at the prices in either example is a very very good deal. Meadowcroft is a good house. just because it’s offerred in two places doesn’t necessarily minimize either offer, IMO. it shows good opportunistic sourcing.
My bottles. Overly excited? Not really. Good wine for what I paid for it? I think so. Used the $25 witchwine code so price was $75 for what amounts to 6 bottles. the only one I am not sure it the RD. Don’t see anyone else posting they received it and honestly looks like it got plucked from the discount bin at my local grocery store
@Winedavid49
I feel bad for disparaging the wine. We opened it last night and were very pleased. Ready to drink right now with plenty of fruit and was an excellent match with some grilled flank steak. Just goes to show you not to judge a book by its cover or in this case a wine by the label…
Not sure the pic will upload.
I received Mags:
Hawk and Horse Vineyard 2015 Cab Sauvignon
Hien 2014 Pinot Noir
750’s:
Monkey Prize 2 Red Blend 2008
Vivendo 2017 Red Blend, Chile
Very Happy with the selection
My haul - not sure how to feel about it. I am unfamiliar with Zeppelin wines and the Pedroncelli Friends Red is a decent table wine. Hard to tell whether the Zeppelin is a deal or not since they only sell to their mailing list and here on Casemates. Anyone know what the ideal drinking window is for the 2021/2 blend?
I got the Wine Club, for when you can’t market it as an ageable wine so you toss it in a magnum and make a dumb label. Oh, Hein. I guess I can go club someone with the bottle, since the juice inside isn’t worth a vintage, vineyard, or anything else but “hey, you can hit people with this bottle!!! Ha, fucking, ha.”
@KNmeh7@losthighwayz@Winedavid49 agree, Swilly always has my attention. Actually taking a tall Wine Club (in the bat design) to a NYE party unless my new Magnums change my mind.
@bunnymasseuse@crabbyman@losthighwayz@Winedavid49 Look at you showing off your actual “wine club” versus the mag we all received. It is not for his wine club, if it is, cancel subscription. It is not the fun idea of having a club bottle to bludgeon pub goers. It is just a big bottle of juice. It lost the entire purpose of the name, and it is hawked off at a discount site. Wine Club? (Insert Rodney Dangerfeld)
@crabbyman You know you can @ me if you want to talk shit.
Or… you can stand back from your keyboard indignation, think, yea… so he “lucked out” but brought forth the issues everyone is experiencing. I won’t stand by silent when a business is screwing customers. Hooray for me.
Instead of focusing your ire on the site, that made money off of you, you decide someone calling a spade a spade is a winey (was that on purpose? it is WHINY) bitch. Hooray for cordiality.
@anoopr@kawichris650
Indeed, all those '13 whites are doing just fine; imo, and I’d happily trade you a '13, or even a couple for it!
And that Griffin, lmk how it is. Seems I’ve got a couple
Brown surprised in an ASTONISHING WAY, by delivering today when they said they would not!! Omg!!!
Mags:
2021 Meadowcroft CabSav NapaValley 2021
2018 Tolosa Pinot Noir Edna Valley Heritage
2014 Lennox Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
2015 Hawk RedHills Lake County CabSav
750:

2017 Vigilance Cimarron RedWine Blend Lake County
2020 SH Amador County Zinfandel Inzinerator
2014 Woot Cellars LARGE BOLD TEXT Zinfandel
No, I didn’t get a Welly, but that’s ok. My variety was heavier on the Pinot&CS but I’ll make it work! Worth the mystery! Pics incoming.
@bunnymasseuse We can discuss, but I was hoping that CM would respect the spirit of their promise to send “different” bottles even though they were not allowing the two-pack to be purchased when I placed my orders…
@bunnymasseuse@Winedavid49@Zortapa WD addressed this in a reply above, said it wasn’t supposed to happen and that he plans to do something about it (unsure what that means tho).
@bunnymasseuse@Zortapa So you ordered two 1 packs but wanted them to treat it as a two pack? That’s asking a lot. WD already described this fulfillment as a logistical challenge. Now, they would have to check all 1 pack orders and look for duplicate names/addresses to ensure different wines were sent.
In reading these posts it’s abundantly clear just how difficult it is to make everyone happy.
@WCCWineGirl@winedavid49 Thanks for all of your hard work. My wife and I love Casemates and it’s brought us great joy over the years. Haters gonna hate…
I got a nice assortment. Still got Wellington Criolla and white port from back in the day.
2012 Schug Pinot - magnum
2014 Hawk and Horse Cab Sauv - magnum
2021 Campo Pietra Rosso Di Montepulciano
Wellington Estate port
Like others I received the SH Barbera and Meadowcroft Napa Cab in Magnums. I’m happy, had the SH Barbera and Napa Cab is always welcome. I have not seen the other 2 bottles in others posts but they look interesting and ready to drink.
Happy New Year Casemate Pals !!
[Mystery Magnums]
Can’t get the pic to post but I got mags of 2009 Schug Pinot and 2019 Tolosa Pinot. The smaller bottles are rather more interesting: 2021 KC labs Mourvèdre (anyone know anything about this one?) and, wait for it… 1994 (!!!) Wellington port.
Seems I’m the unicorn so I won’t judge others who may have different opinions (though all the disappointed folks can feel free to send me any Stillman Brown wines they don’t want, that man is a genius). But I do want to thank the WCC team for doing their best to make this cool and special. I would have felt that I got my $100 worth even had my fourth bottle been more pedestrian. Happy New Year to all.
Just want to remind folks about why you enter these mystery events, you just never know.
On a previous wine site talked about here there was a mystery offering for a double magnum ( 3 liters) and I think I got the golden ticket. Given the longer aging window of large format bottles I am still anticipating the goodness of this one. Probably soon.
Hoping I loaded the picture correctly
I thought this deal would be an early January delivery but UPS delivered on 12/26/2023 when I was out of town so I had to reroute to local UPS store, where they have sat until today. At least they did not get sent back for sitting past the maximum days allowed to be held.
2014 Coppo Pomorosso Barbera d’Asti (1.5L)
2019 Scott Harvey Mountain Selection Barbera (1.5L)
2018 Tolosa Pinot 1.5L
2016 Schug Pinot 1.5L
2019 The Messenger cab 750ml
2015 Aglianico Sannio Santagata Dei Goti (?) 750 ml
No pun intended but MEH. Spent $100 and I can’t imagine drinking anything other than the cab. Why 2 Pinot magnums? Definitely disappointed but whatever.
@evmc I hope you’re surprised at the Aglianico if you like Cab Sauv. I tend to find them “similar”. In that they both have some good tannic structure and dark fruit.
And the double Pinot would be disappointing if you really don’t like Pinot, but i think the differences between Tolosa and Schug will be a learning experience. You can also cook with some of the bottle and serve the rest – think Coq au Vin or similar.
I’m a silver lining person and i tend to like the mystery bottles simply because it’s an opportunity to try new stuff.
This didn’t make it to me before we left for the holidays (had hoped it would, but no expectation it must), so just now taking stock of the bottles.

I still have a few bottles of the LeVigne 2018 Cab, not saving those for a special occasion, so it’s a meh. Very happy with the rest; seems like two of the bottles have appeared in many others’ cases, but the 2003 Schug PN looks to be the oldest I’ve seen anybody receive. Can’t wait to open it up with some good company and see how it evolves.
Also wanted to thank WD and WW/CM crew for staying true to the spirit of this venture and doing these fun offerings. I’ve been riding since 2007; it’s been a lot of bottles come through my doors, and only maybe 3 or 4 real problems/complaints. Each of those, it was made right.
I probably wouldn’t have posted this, but reading over this thread made it feel like it needed to be said. These Mystery Cases have brought me so much joy over the years. Life would be a little less fun without Mystery Cases in it

There’s Cheer over there.
@rjquillin Sometimes it pays to read the comments. Someone over there mentioned a $5 coupon ALLIRKNOBAG
@InFrom @rjquillin doesn’t work here for me
@datruandi @InFrom @rjquillin only works if you bought an IRK in the last Mehrathon.
For those unaware, IRKs always include a reusable bag…but, they were out of stock when the IRKs shipped and instead gave everyone who purchased one a $5 coupon. Said coupon is the same for everyone, but, is account specific.
I got an IRK and the coupon worked just fine here.
@datruandi @PHRoG @rjquillin Sadly, you are correct. Not terribly sadly, just $5 worth of sadly.
Any info on the price of the regular mystery red bottles?
@danidani12 I think the fine print says they may not be red BTW…
I’m in. When guests come for dinner, they all love a magnum.Plus the price is right. In David I trust. Woot!!
@jmdavidson1 this didn’t age well lol
WD has had a few bad offers recently
@losthighwayz Based on what I got, no mags for my wine friends. Maybe I’ll gift them to some non-wine savvy friends.
Okay, fine. You got me. Seasonal order number and everything.

@Springbank My homemade cider is always called Dicken’s Cider. Local radio station had great skit promoting Dicken’s Cider - think Bart Simpson! “nothing keeps gramma warmer on a winter’s day than a nice Dicken’s Cider”
How much more are you saving by buying 2+2?
(Note: tax and shipping are not included in savings calculations).
Mystery Magnum Plus (MM+) - $10 = 9.08%
If it wasn’t for the fact I already bought a case of “Cheer” I would have bought more magnums. But 2 will have to suffice!

@outdoorslife I share the struggle!

@mattig88 so are all of my wine holding contraptions
@mattig88 Just don’t go pouring it into a storm drain!
@Lidio @mattig88 I just saw that again yesterday lol.
@gtcharlie I love Casemates but they will never get another dollar from me for a mystery anything. Two cases of swill was enough for me.
@gtcharlie @lionel47 @pupator I have been with WD (for better or worse) since Ty’s legendary Field Blend on Woot almost 2 decades ago.
@KNmeh7 @lionel47 @pupator
@gtcharlie @lionel47 @pupator Well that sounds like something you should contact Two Jakes, or, ya know, Clark.
I have been fortunate to be a “rat” for a lot of expensive bottles. You do not sully my palate with “vinegar” condescension. Good riddance.
@gtcharlie @KNmeh7 @pupator Look, I won’t go into the specifics here.
“Good riddance”? I’m not going anywhere.
@KNmeh7 @lionel47 @pupator
@gtcharlie @lionel47 @pupator You actually said that the wine tasted like vinegar.
BTW, who is “You Are?”
@gtcharlie @KNmeh7 @lionel47 Ahh, the internet at its finest. Choosing offense when it wasn’t there. I hope your day gets better.
@gtcharlie @KNmeh7 @lionel47 @pupator He said you’d only like this if your taste ran to vinegar, which was indeed a prominent taste in the bottle that I opened.
@gtcharlie @KNmeh7 @lionel47 @pupator @rpstrong
@klezman @KNmeh7 @lionel47 @pupator @rpstrong
@gtcharlie @klezman @KNmeh7 @lionel47 @pupator @rpstrong
My last two case purchases I had to throw down the kitchen sink… (these below)
Gard Mystery Case
Tercero Grenache
…and this Two Jakes of Diamonds Cabernet Franc was not at all palatable even after decanting for a week, and sifting through all the sediments using cheesecloth.
FWIW, I’me losing faith in Casemates, and Clark (Winesmith/Two Jakes) although I had good experiences in the past buying Clark’s wines from Casemates and earlier wine.woot.
@gtcharlie @klezman @KNmeh7 @lionel47 @pupator @rpstrong
So either Casemates and these wineries enhance their quality control checks before putting any wine on sale, or it won’t be long when many of us will opt-out to other buying options. Since past four months or so I have switched to buying these cases from Total Wine.
Flowers Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
Belle Glos Pinor Noir Dairyman Russian River Valley
Bit expensive than here, but while purchasing I’m confident and I have that peace of mind I won’t have to dump it down the kitchen sink.
@abhiabhi @gtcharlie @KNmeh7 @lionel47 @pupator @rpstrong you had to pour out Tercero and Gard ?!
I think the problem is with you, not the wine. And yes, I have the same Tercero case. Larry has never produced a flawed wine.
@abhiabhi
/giphy thankful-singing-keepsake
and from the other place.
/giphy cherished-compassionate-tale
@skubaryk way too many times. There have been so many good offers and the mystery ones get me
First time for wine on Meh and I’m in for 6 Cheers and 2 magnums! I’m normally a Naked guy (hope talk of that isn’t forbidden) but excited to increase my cellar. And by wine cellar I mean the shopping boxes on a pallet in my basement.
/giphy elfin-iconic-caroler
@benjyhe The foam boxes are great for slowing daily temperature variation (more important than ‘cellar temperature’). My ‘cellar’ is stacked foam boxes (sideways!) in my basement.
Get a CASE of the Cheer. They’ll last and get better for decade, but cheap enough to protect the rest of your stash. DECANT heavily and leave half a bottle for a few days later.
@benjyhe @wardad After my duct taped together carton stacks began to sag and tilt, I built basic shelving custom sized to tightly fit the cartons. I now have secure storage for around 250 bottles in/on two units.
Not pretty, but it works!
@rpstrong Mind posting a photo of your setup? I’m looking for a more elegant situation that what I’ve got (stashed anywhere there is floorspace in my basement)
@skubaryk I’ll do that in a bit.
@benjyhe @wardad Got a case of cheer, gave out some of my 2018 today to some folks.
@skubaryk Here’s one of my shelving units. Each shelf will hold two rows of 2x2 or 2x3 bottle cartons, plus 4 2x3s on top:
which was as high as wanted to reach and, besides, was all the room I needed:
Of course, this is where I am now:
with a second unit opposite.
Stacked a bit higher than I’d planned, but at least it’s pretty stable.
@rpstrong thanks so much!! I think a hardware store trip might be in future on this rainy Sunday
@rpstrong @skubaryk Wow impressive! Ideas for the future…
@rpstrong @skubaryk very nice construction
I’ve got the same setup but on a wire rack and no boxes, only foam. My overflow containers (and there’s too many!) still have the box, on the floor, NEVER stacked more than 3 high
@skubaryk @ttboy23 Pix?
@rpstrong @skubaryk @ttboy23 I built an enclosure against my basement wall using left over pieces of structural plywood(OSB)/foam panels, with larger pieces to go across the front to seal it up thermally. Used to have just boxes stacked up in it, but got too nervous about playing ‘bottle Jenga’ as I pulled out random bottles, so I eventually found wire racks that fit perfectly! Temps vary very slowly winter-summer, but hold steady without fluctuations. Works great.
@drgonzo99 nice. I almost bought some of those racks months ago! I think they are still in my saved for later cart on Amz
@drgonzo99 @skubaryk @ttboy23 Damn, looks like that insulation should hold an ice cube through the summer.

@deadlyapp bring 'em to Denver for our wine and cheese party! We usually get through an obscene volume of wine
@knlprez that is an awful lot of work with two babies lol
@deadlyapp not with that attitude!
This insider rat asked WD just where are these mags coming from & when he rattled off the wineries, I was like !!! Happy Holidays CMers & Cheers!
@WCCWineGirl
Do tell!
@kawichris650 LoL. I can tell you this, FOMO should be permeating.
@kawichris650 @WCCWineGirl not enough info to tempt us off the fence!

down for one!

In for 2. Need to go to more group events to pop these babies open….
/giphy sharing-symbolic-chimes
@bunnymasseuse same “problem” here. So I’m trying to push the rope by buying, then partying.
@radiolysis I just shared 6 reg bottles with folks today, have to give out bunny bottles if I’m ordering more, have to make room in the bunny den!

Always in for a surprise. Magnums are easy, now Double Magnums that makes a statement !!!
Doubles sold out. Had to buy two singles to get the double.
@stever52 I just ordered a twofer!?

Doubles are still available. It pays to last minute shop. Score!!!
Yeah! I wish I could go back and change my two single orders to a double order and save $10.
@Zortapa 2 packs sold out again, but for future reference you could cancel your single orders then order the double. Violà!
@hscottk I tried to cancel the single as you suggest, but the cancel button was nowhere to be found. The only options open to me were to sit on that single single order or place a second single order.
@hscottk @Zortapa In such cases, a direct appeal to their always helpful customer service department will usually suffice.
@rpstrong @Zortapa Agreed. From view orders / order details / I need help” area you select “I have an issue with my order” and explain the situation.
@hscottk @rpstrong Frankly, I’m not going to whine to CM about this. I was only given the option to buy a single mag, and if I didn’t like it I could easily have passed. But it is frustrating that this offer was a moving target.
@hscottk @rpstrong @Zortapa Nope, no combining singles into a double:
@rpstrong @simtel20 @Zortapa I think the idea was to order a double when it became available again (it went in and out of stock) then ask support to cancel your order of the single bottle.
So casemates friends or not so friends…If yall happen to have a few like…2 bottle of 2 Jake’s to put with my order…I won’t cry except with joy. I only just discovered 2 Jake’s and now it’s gone forever and I missed the last offering and I am exceptionally sad. I beg.
yolo I guess, in for 2

If you snooze, you lose. You lost if you snnost.
I bought 2 singles sometime yesterday. There were no more doubles left. Was I the last one?
I have never bought a magnum online; I wonder what the packaging would look like.
@SoSmellyAir
Pretty much like you may expect, just larger than for a 750
@rjquillin @SoSmellyAir almost always styro. Unless you happened to buy the wine clubs from Stillman
@deadlyapp my Wine Club barely made the trip. So here’s hoping WCC uses more tape this time.
@dirtdoctor Sometimes I don’t get the shipping notice until the day of or after delivery.
@dirtdoctor Nope and hoping the same for similar reasons.
@dirtdoctor I’ve been wondering the same
@dirtdoctor I see a couple tracking numbers from WCC in transit in the UPS app. It’s either one tracking number for each case I got or one for the 2 cases of Cheer and 1 for the mystery magnums. Might check the UPS app. They probably just haven’t updated the order statuses.
@dirtdoctor @maht87 I ordered one case of Cheer and one two-pack of mystery magnums. Only one active WCC tracking number listed as 39lbs, which is a typical case from past experience. So I think the Cheer is on the way.
@dirtdoctor @maht87 @sndg yup mine says cheer in the description of the ups tracking
@dirtdoctor I’m starting to get nervous too. I wanted this for Xmas, but worse I’m leaving town for a bit a few days later.
@dirtdoctor @Ten9Eight
mystery mag and cheer still processing
@dirtdoctor @rjquillin @Ten9Eight cheer will arrive by christmas. mystery magnum is logistically very challenging and taking longer in the que. i think we’ll get them all out this week.
@Winedavid49 I hope that due to late shipping these don’t arrive over the weekend and sit in a holding area with a post xmas delivery.
@dirtdoctor @rjquillin @Ten9Eight @Winedavid49 just got an email from Meh that my Cheers has been delayed. They gave me a $5 coupon
FYI
@dirtdoctor @losthighwayz @rjquillin @Ten9Eight @Winedavid49 Ditto, gues the staff Christmas gift will be delayed
@dirtdoctor @losthighwayz @rjquillin @Ten9Eight @Winedavid49 Ditto here
@Winedavid49 Any update?
@Winedavid49 Is it possible to update my shipping address. If it ships late this week, I likely won’t be there for delivery due to holiday travel.
@dawnlac @Winedavid49 this is why the estimated shipping and delivery windows should be respected. People plan on them.
@jmdavidson1 @Winedavid49 CHEER will be HERE soon
@ttboy23 @Winedavid49 No cheer here. Waiting for mystery mags.
@dawnlac @klezman @Winedavid49 Well, worse, the delivery folk gotta get a sig, so this (and related waiting when I might not be proverbially nigh) is going to make them hate seeing my house.
Darn it all, meh! Humbug!!!
@dirtdoctor They ruined XMAS. Was supposed to arrive yesterday and they didnt bother to ship. “Chad” in CS was exceedingly rude to me and just didnt care
@dawnlac @klezman @stinks @Winedavid49 I wonder if a verbal acknowledgement over a doorbell cam would suffice?
[I’m fortunate enough to live in an area where porch piracy is unheard of, and where my regular driver doesn’t even bother knocking - he just leaves it like any other package.]
Guess Mom will be getting a “New Year’s gift” this year.
@norwayhalf EDIT: HOPEFULLY
Looks like my MysteryMag2 UPS label just got printed (per UPS My Choice) and they are predicting a Friday delivery here in southern OR.
Sorry things are delayed, lot of things have been going on the past week or two, but most of them should have their labels printed yesterday/today and be headed out soon.
@ThomasF Just got my notification. Thank you.
@stever52 @ThomasF Ditto. Delivery next Thursday. That’s better than it sitting in a UPS warehouse over the 3-day weekend.
WT? I had mine shipped to the place I will be for the holidays. Now the estimated delivery date is on the 29th - AFTER I leave. I guess these two shipments will be for naught, and then returned to the sender. So much for the estimated delivery date.
@Zortapa ugh, can you re-adjust? I guess no…
@bunnymasseuse I’m heading back home on the 28th and UPS won’t let these be redirected, unless WCC does it.
@Zortapa Send in a support ticket, we’ll see if we can get UPS to adjust it before it gets too far.
@ThomasF Done. Two separate orders. Thank you.
@ThomasF @Zortapa I have found with WCC UPS shipments, only WCC can redirect to ~other than a location that appears on a list~ when you attempt to request “hold at location”, the recipient can do that type of redirect, after a first delivery attempt, to an approved location somewhat near the original ship-to address.
Too many words to try to explain a simple action.
You can redirect for hold to a nearby facility, but not to one not on the list when you try; WCC must request that.
@Zortapa They dont care dude/ Reverse your charge
Still no updates, waiting…
At least it should be headed to where it can reside for a bit b4 pickup.
A bit of a bummer on this. Ordered with the expectation of having for holiday festivities we are hosting and shipment scheduled to arrive on 27th. Hopefully they are great bottles of juice and all will be forgotten!
Real bummer that delivery is out of expected window provided during ordering. Now arriving one week later than predicted
@atamul1 And they just don’t care
My tracking says “ Delivery has been rescheduled to the next business day due to holiday closures.” anyone know what this means? it was on the ups truck for delivery
My order was supposed to arrive yesterday. They didnt bother to ship it. “Chad” in CS was downright uncaring and rude to me. This was bought as a Christmas gift and “Chad” could not care less. What kind of customer service is this? I want them to cancel all my open oders. The worst part is how little they care.
Hey @arfdawg - I found your support cases and responded.
@arfdawg yea, that big cancellation got to me.
Bummer.
Fwiw, this offer was deliberately not publicized as guaranteed by Christmas. We were trying, but it’s a very complicated logistical offer to fulfill.
Happy holidays
@klezman “Chad” got increasingly rude, inappropriate and obnoxious. It wa clear he didnt care one bit. THen it got escalated and it wasnt much better. They should have just refunded me. PERIOD. I’ve been spending THOUSANDS with the various Meh sites. And that’s how I’m treated?Stay away from these clowns. They don’t care.
@arfdawg you expect a refund because something arrives later than estimated? Wow
@arfdawg @Winedavid49
And Merry Christmas for those that do that one.
@rjquillin @Winedavid49 Glad you enjoy getting rpped off. You must work for them
@arfdawg @Winedavid49
@arfdawg @rjquillin @Winedavid49
Wow! 2248 bottles the question is have you drank any of them
@ScottW58 @Winedavid49
568 that CT knows of, but CT misses a lot…
@arfdawg @rjquillin @ScottW58
LOL. I’m storing a few.
@arfdawg @rjquillin @Winedavid49 arf I’m guessing you regularly receive what you interpret as bad customer service, and it’s clearly a result of you being an asshole.
@klezman The delivery window was clear. You not having anyone to give a Christmas present to is your issue.
@CruelMelody @rjquillin @Winedavid49 Stop projecting.
@CruelMelody I see the level of civiity among users here is the same as CS. Good luck with your neanderthal life, knuckle dragger.
@arfdawg @klezman I know the English language quite well, and I noticed a few strange things in your usage of the language.
@arfdawg @coolac5 who is the “we” that is laughing?
Stay away. This is not a customer centric company
@arfdawg You have made your point. Leave. I personally love this site and will keep buying from them even if stuff happens.
@danandlisa You leave. I’m never buying here again. THey hate their customers. Now go back to your hole inthe ground
@arfdawg Happy Holidays. I wish you well in your future endeavors. I am drinking a wine I got here and enjoying the evening.
@danandlisa You leave if you don’t like my opinion. Another weasle who wants to censor and cancel people with different truths.
@CorTot y dlivery window came and went, so it WAS promised by Xmas. And then CHAD threatened me after showing no remorse whatsoever.
@arfdawg @CorTot “You talk far too much, for someone so unkind.” - CHVRCHES
@KNmeh7 Thanks for your msg. I will give it all the attention it deserves.
@KNmeh7
I CHVRCHES
@CorTot Your “guess” just smacks of ignorance.
Thanks @Winedavid49 for a wonderful mystery case for Christmas. Love the selection and the signed 2002 Wellington is much more than expected!
@StingingJ
@StingingJ WOW! (The Wellington!) The rest is cool too.
@StingingJ Looks like a great mystery. Enjoy!
@StingingJ $6, $7, $4, $5, $8, $7, $9, and $7 on total wine
@StingingJ A mag of welly, outstanding!
@StingingJ lol, this is the way to legally offload old woot stock. Jealous of the Wellington. Nice score
@jaybird @StingingJ one hell of a haul! Mazal tov!
Came today for me. Not familiar with these - howd i do?
Magnums
750 ml
@jammyt Funny, I got the EXACT same four bottles. I’m rather disappointed. Pinot is the one varietal that we dislike and the two mags are for me “Meh” at best. But that’s the chance taken on the mystery buys.
@jammyt
Big fan of the Wine Club. No opinion on the others specifically but did not care much for a Fossil Point Rose we bought previously. OTOH, have enjoyed the Vinum wines I have tried.
@jammyt What vintages?
@rjquillin
Wine Club/Zeppelin Magnum Farce - 21
Pomorosso Coppo - 14
Fossil Point Pinot Noir - 20
Vinum Cellars Pinot Noir 19
@jammyt
I had a Vinum Cellars White Elephant from the old site that was decent; doesn’t count here.
If you got the 2014 Coppo Barbera d’Asti Pomorosso CT suggests it should be quite tasty.
Average Value: $45.86; $115.40 (1.5L)
Got nothing on Swilly
Couple of favorable notes on the Fossil Point at ~$15/750
@jammyt Fossil Point PN is quite nice.
@CorTot Five bucks each on total wine
@arfdawg @CorTot
@arfdawg @CorTot Really!? I’d like to see those links, I’d be all over that mag of Meadowcroft at a fiver.
@arfdawg thank you for your absolute shit post.
@arfdawg @CorTot Link? Did not see at my local location. ty in advance
Got 2 sets:
Mag of 2014 Coppo Pomorosso
Mag of 2015 Schug Carneros
750 of 2019 Urgency Pinot Noir
750 of 2020 Metz road Pinot Noir
The coppa is a great value here
The schug is meh for value but getting an 8 year old mag which should be decent stuff is pretty nice
The urgency I opened with urgency to go with dinner tonight and it’s damned good. No clue on the other 750.
Not insane QPR overall but I am quite satisfied. It’ll probably all be gone by the end of the holidays
@cmaldoon You’ve been a long time gone/silent.
Good to see you’re still hangin’ in here.
@cmaldoon nice to see you here! How’s life?
@klezman @rjquillin.
@Cerridwyn Nobody needed to do that, it showed up pre-antagonized.
@Cerridwyn I’m in the same boat. I’ve got some excellent Wellington magnums and I never seen to have reason to open them. One of these days!
@Cerridwyn @klezman Open that bottle night?
@Cerridwyn @davirom it’s more that I need enough people there to warrant it while also being able to open more than one bottle.

@mgowhoo A mystery containing an enigma! Hey @WineDavid49, do you happen to know whose shiners you sent out?
@InFrom @mgowhoo @Winedavid49
Didn’t Swilly send out some of those?
Does it have a dot on the cork?
@InFrom @rjquillin @Winedavid49 no dot, generic black foil, no name on the cork (I removed the foil to investigate)
@InFrom @mgowhoo @rjquillin yikes! can you take a picture of it? i bet we can figure this out! apologies.
@mgowhoo That makes it truly a mystery magnum, no?
@mgowhoo curious if you were able to figure this out

@klezman https://casemates.com/forum/topics/zeppelin-winery-red-wine-combo
@CruelMelody it’s different than that one. One of the pictures above was just clear enough that I could make out 52% Syrah, 27% Tannat, 21% Tempranillo. Or maybe 57%/22%. Couldn’t tell how high octane.
Very satisfied!
Mine arrived at UPS on the 24th and they show no signs of moving closer to being out for shipment. Just saying, “That’s not right!”
@jmdavidson1 mine must be with yours. I’m out if town so I won’t see them until Sunday anyhow.
@jmdavidson1 My 2 2-packs have been sitting somewhere in Illinois since Christmas Eve morning, en route to NEOhio. Awesome! #bigbrownstinkslikebigbrown
POPSOCKETS! COURT DOCKETS! FOLK ROCK HITS! AWESOME!
@karenhynes AT least the weather is temperate enough that the wine shouldn’t be affected by sitting in a semi this long.
Nothing like a bit of redundancy
mags over 750’s
@rjquillin shoot, did not intend to do that.
@rjquillin Absolutely nothing for the vintage on CT. Looks like you have yourself a Barbera 4-pack?
@Winedavid49
Hey, nothing you could do, it’s the warehouse guys.
You load boxes, they sit, and then you slap labels on them. Absolutely good with the mags; a bit of variety in the 750’s would have helped tho…
@shrimp74
Barb and Pinot; yup.
All four in CT, just not much info.
What is this Pomorosso everybody is getting?
@klezman Folio. Good stuff.
@Winedavid49 yeah, but what is it?
@klezman 2014 COPPO POMOROSSO
@klezman @Winedavid49 here’s the WE rating for it if it helps:
This is the 30th anniversary edition of this wine and it doesn’t disappoint. It opens with intense dark-skinned berry, exotic spice, blue flower and French oak aromas. The savory and fresh palate delivers crushed red cherry, cassis, licorice and espresso flavors structured with fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity lends balance while a mineral note lingers on the finish. Drink through 2029. — Kerin O’Keefe
@klezman @Winedavid49
They’re really blowing some stuff out
@Winedavid49 so then why doesn’t it say Barbera d’Asti on the front label?! That would have made it simple.
@klezman @Winedavid49
That did make it a bit interesting to find in CT, but it was there
@klezman I think they devoted the label space on the front to celebrating their 30th anniversary. It does say Barbera D’Asti prominently on the back.

2019 Urgency PN Meh…
It feels like Christmas! 2014 Pomorosso Coppo. Retails for $90 PLUS 2019 Noir Urgency, $14. Can’t wait to taste it!
/giphy twinsies
@PHRoG you got two great magnums of Pinot noir and two of Barbera that are generally considered good based on the 40 second I spent looking them up.
@klezman @PHRoG
Welcome to that same club, 2 of everything.
@klezman I was able to find the Barbara when I initially looked…can’t seem to find anything on the other though.

What does the back of the 4th look like?
@klezman @rjquillin here ya go!
Also, an interesting note, it’s sealed with wax, not foil/paper!
@klezman @PHRoG
Hein Roessler
Roessler has done some fine PN.
I’ve still got five or six cases from when WD was blowing out some 2008 and 2009 vintage bottles.
@klezman @rjquillin Nice!! Thank you for the assist there.
Another question, if ya don’t mind…link says to drink by 2023. I know that’s not exactly an expiration date, but, any guidance on what that actually means? Is it suggesting it goes bad, flavor-wise, by then?
@PHRoG @rjquillin CT drinking window dates are, for me, vastly too short. And these are in magnum, so they age more slowly (and a bit differently) than regular size bottles. With a 2013 I’d guess you have at least until the end of the decade before it drops off.
@klezman @rjquillin Gotcha!
/giphy appreciated
@klezman @PHRoG
It’s a very slippery slope
@PHRoG @rjquillin pull lots of corks, remember what you drink
@klezman @PHRoG @rjquillin are both magnum twins the same vintage?
@klezman @losthighwayz @rjquillin Yup! Both are exactly the same, 2 x Hein - 2013 and 2 x Barbera - 2014.
@klezman @PHRoG
@rpm said, a long time ago…
Super excited about the haul!!

2017 Center of Effort Pinot Noir

Now the bad news, the Wellington is leaking
Coincidentally, the only other wine we ever had arrived leaking was a magnum of 2001 Victory from the Woot days… we will be enjoying it soon, does anyone have an opinion on how long we can wait before it starts to oxidize? I’d like to let the sediment settle as much as possible but also minimize the degradation.
Huge thanks to @Winedavid49 and the rest of the Casemates crew for the amazing offer! We are really excited!
@knlprez Nice haul!
Not much ullage however in the Welly.
I’d peel the capsule and check cork integrity.
@rjquillin good call, I’ll check it this evening when I get back home.
@knlprez @rjquillin yeah, I think you win so far!
@knlprez That Juliet is worth the price of the offer. My recommendation would be to cellar it.
@klezman @rjquillin I’m really happy with what we received!
I appreciate the heads-up!
@knlprez I do the same.
It took +1 a while to understand that, but now she gets it.
@jmdavidson1 @knlprez
Geeze, I can just plain misplace them for longer than that
@rjquillin here’s my assessment of the cork, but I’d appreciate any knowledge you would care to share!
@knlprez Yeah, that one long vein most likely the culprit. I think (hopefully) you’ll still be surprised.
Don’t forget to pour me a taste.
@knlprez
Don’t forget the Durand, or the knock off from China
@rjquillin I really need to get one, but the Ah-So typically does the job… we’ll see!
@knlprez @rjquillin My Welly signed Syrah (2001?) had a leaking cork, similar, didn’t touch it, opened it 5/2021, nothing lost, no oxidation. I would have faith
@bunnymasseuse @rjquillin Thanks for the data point! How long did you keep it before opening? Did you store it upright?
@bunnymasseuse @knlprez
NEVER upright except for short, <1 year, storage (imo).
Horizontal or inverted to keep the cork wet.
@knlprez @rjquillin I had it NOT upright, but had the same amount of leakage you had, and I came out ok on my mag… was really concerned but I was delighted it wasn’t a loss.
I had mine since the day I got it, so from either here or at w00t.
@bunnymasseuse @knlprez
Cleaning up today for company coming Monday I just found a mag of '01 Victory and 3x '07 750’s as well; not upright.
@knlprez @rjquillin I just checked my remaining Mag, also a leaker , but the other one had a protruded cork (it had popped up some, vs this is one is flush), so we will see when I open up how it is, whenever I decide to do that.
@bunnymasseuse @rjquillin All our bottles are horizontal in the cellar, minus for a couple days when standing them up before opening to allow sediment to settle. I was asking in regards to the leaking cork. Ideally we would wait a couple weeks at least post-shipment before opening a bottle, especially if it has sediment and some age on it. I think you both have me convinced we should be safe to wait on this one.
@knlprez @rjquillin My Welly Mag is a 2001, so assuming same corks, and behavior, I think now vs then won’t make much difference.

Curious and hoping for assistance. Received Magnum Farce in one of my packs and on CT, the magnum lists for only $54. The details on this deal were that each magnum was a minimum of $80 retail. Any wine club members wanna weigh in? CM experts? WD?
@shrimp74 price direct from winery. CT can be a sale price from wherever
@CruelMelody So do you have any better info? Maybe I was looking at the wrong wine on CellarTracker.
@shrimp74 I could throw some yeast in a bottle of my concord grapes and tell you it is worth $100. We all got played.
I wouldn’t pay 20 for most of these over-produced couldn’t-sell mags.
@shrimp74 Stillman’s wines sell for $54.00 for 750ml. these are good wines.
@KNmeh7 thanks for your thoughtful insight. I’d love to hear what you had to say after you purchased said wine.
@Winedavid49 Thanks for this info. Love the varietals in the blend! Can’t wait to give this a try - in 10 years after a good, long rest.
@shrimp74 I’m 99 percent sure a Stillman magnum is at least $100 winery price. I’d say you scored on this bottle for sure
Received my haul just now.
Don’t understand why the warehouse packers put pairs together. Not a happy camper here!!!
@jmdavidson1 @KNmeh7 Yeah, I’ve seen some highs and lows here. Much as I’m a long-time Pedroncelli fan, I would be disappointed to get a mag of the Mother Clone and a 750 of Friends Red. But seeing that at least helps me tamp down my expectations. Box is on the truck today.
@InFrom @KNmeh7 IMHO, “at least” one bottle of 4 should have been a decent pick up.
@InFrom @jmdavidson1 @KNmeh7 so i’m pretty bummed we messed up with the redundant bottles. i packed many of these myself, the multiple offers were the first to be run and we believe there was a misunderstanding on instruction and are a handful impacted. i plan to do something about that. the largest purchasers should have all had different wines. huge mistake.
@dirtdoctor
I was wrong, the 2nd mag is a 2014 Lennox RRV Pinot Noir, but it is also bottled by Roessler.
@dirtdoctor I had a heck of a time getting the Hein mag out of the foam, even tried one person holding the neck of the bottle and the other trying to pull the foam away. I finally had to cut the foam to get a little wiggle room.
Almost forgot these beauties priced $18 - 20.
I think I should give up on these mystery cases. They aren’t my friends.
@danidani12 @WCCWineGirl
@danidani12 @WCCWineGirl The ONLY people that have received a Wellington are people who bought two 2x.
Sigh.
@danidani12 @KNmeh7 @WCCWineGirl Not true. I ordered two sets and got twins, with no Wellington.
@danidani12 @KNmeh7 @WCCWineGirl
Ah, the world of conspiracy theories that we now live in. Maybe it could be just as simple as they have a statistically greater chance to receive a Wellington or that it’s just happen chance. Not everything has to be someone plotting for/against a certain group of people.
@danidani12 @dirtdoctor @WCCWineGirl “Conspiracy theory?” WTF are you on about? I am simply pointing out that the ONLY PEOPLE who got a Wellington ORDERD 2x 2x.
No fucking “conspiracy.” You think an archeologist who notices all this shit happened to these fossils at this date is a conspiracy theorist?
I am observing, and made an observation. Until ANYONE who ordered less than 2x 2x gets a Wellington, then yea, my assumption is valid.
@jmdavidson
Obviously you are not guaranteed a Wellie (Gordon Ramsay shouting) but at least you had your hat in the drawing.
@danidani12 @KNmeh7 @WCCWineGirl just curious how much Wellington you thought there was to go around?
I asked above and the answer was “not much”, so if you got your hopes up for a wellington that was probably in error.
I agree I’d be less than totally happy with a magnum of Pedroncelli or Scott Harvey red label (tasty as both of those are), but that’s always the thing with a mystery offer.
As for what was packed where, imo the real conspiracy evidence would be if only old timer favoured names for them. I don’t see that happening here.
@klezman @KNmeh7 @WCCWineGirl I’m just super bummed that both of mine are less than $80 retail.
@danidani12 curious what you received?
@danidani12 @klezman @KNmeh7 @WCCWineGirl if it makes you feel better, I’m sure the Wellington was well under $80 retail for a magnum when released, unless it was a mag of Victory.
@danidani12 @klezman I have seen 4 Wellingtons. All 4 were from people that ordered 2x 2x. (Including the 750)
I never assumed I would get a wellington. Do not put words in my mouth. My point is that as of now, there is nothing of note except for the Wellingtons. No other fantastic bottles. This was a bummer.
@danidani12 @klezman @knlprez @KNmeh7 @WCCWineGirl @winedavid49
I paid 96.97 for a mag of 2001 Wellington Syrah Reserve on 2017-07-07 from Woot. Retail from Peter was most assuredly greater than $80.
Order Number: #58407844 https://wine.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=7188748 Good notes from Peter
I do shed a tear we no longer have access to that trove of information in the W00t forums.
@danidani12 @klezman @KNmeh7 @rjquillin @WCCWineGirl @Winedavid49 Was that during the magnum clear-out sale? We bought the maximum of each and I wish I created a second account and ordered more!
@danidani12 @klezman @knlprez @KNmeh7 @WCCWineGirl @Winedavid49
hehehe
@rjquillin I remember back in the woot days, this dude named rjq showed up occasionally. The nerve of him to steal your initials!
@InFrom
@danidani12 @KNmeh7 no words intended to be put in your mouth. Just trying to figure out why the attention on Wellington.
@danidani12 @klezman Why the attention to Wellington?
@danidani12 @dirtdoctor @KNmeh7 @WCCWineGirl I ordered 2 1x and got a Wellington. See post above.
I have no knowledge on any of these but I figured I’d share with everyone.
@raj810 what year is the Hein?
@losthighwayz 2014
@raj810 thanks
@losthighwayz Thanks I greatly appreciate the info!
Pray tell why?
/giphy you-got-played
@KNmeh7 totally disagree.
@KNmeh7 Wow, I think the only time was close to being that pissed off receiving wine was the time UPS damaged 1/2 my case repacked the undamaged bottles and claimed it wasn’t them.
@KNmeh7 @Winedavid49 Some of us agree and others might totally agree. Seeing what has been received, the satisfaction range is wide. I happen to fall on the not satisfied side. I think the site has taken a credibility hit from this offer. (Just my 2 cents).
@jmdavidson1 @KNmeh7 @Winedavid49 Well, if there is indeed a credibility lack, I look forward to the next mystery case (after ordering the dubious foreign mystery case, and then the following mystery case “redemption” that included many Wellingtons).
@jmdavidson1 @KNmeh7
With all due respect, where is the weakness in the magnum selection?
@jmdavidson1 @KNmeh7 @Winedavid49 the value across magnums is wide but I’d say all are worth the price of admission though QPR will vary. I only ordered one magnum but I would honestly be disappointed if I had ordered more and received the exact same magnum twice (doubles) like many who’ve posted did
@jmdavidson1 @losthighwayz @Winedavid49
I think that is the general consensus of EVERYONE. You don’t need to qualify it.
@jmdavidson1 @KNmeh7 @losthighwayz @Winedavid49 The listing specifically guaranteed no dupes in the same box.
@CruelMelody very pleased! The 750 on the right is carbonic, and kukeri is usually out of my office range.
@CruelMelody Love the label of the one on the right. If you open it anytime soon I’m curious to know what the flavor of a carbonated red is like!
I am pleased. I would be interested in what anyone knows about these wines. Thanks.
The wines are 2011 Schug Pinot mag, 2014 Hawk and Horse Cab, Wellington Port, and Ross di Montepulciano Tosscana
@mikepav Can’t help with the others, but Wellington Port was an offer about year ago: https://casemates.com/forum/topics/wellington-vineyards-port
@slowbie Thanks slowbie. I opened the Tosscana and it was quite good. The Hawk Horse Cab is pricey so I think I scored even if the other two aren’t great.
Mags:
2002 - Wellington Syrah reserve
2019 - Schug Pinot Noir Carneros
2021 - Meadowcroft Napa Cab
2019 - SH Red Label Barbera
@sosptuba Some classics in that order!
@sosptuba phat goose had its own song as i recall. I know there was a random link to a boc written on his arm or something. I never bought the wine, but did get the boc. Lol
@jaybird @sosptuba hah! phat goose was hilarious. how’s that for luck of the draw!
Magnums:
Bottles:
I think all of these are way above my normal price point, and all seem to be a bargain for what I’ve paid, so I’m quite pleased that I’ll have these to try out.
@simtel20 I wonder if anyone else in our neighborhood got that Meadowcroft? Mine’s the same vintage.
From a comment above, it seems that Juliet will be quite a nice bottle.
@InFrom From all the posts here, it seems like they had a few cases of the meadowcroft, doesn’t it?
@InFrom @simtel20 and Schug and Hawk&Horse
I’m happy with the above array, especially the Roessler. Looking forward to that Noceto as well.
@InFrom Just read the reviews of the Le Vigne Cab from when it sold here back in June. Wildly divergent rattage. I’m hoping my experience is similar to the first rat’s, sounds like it would be right up my alley.
I’m not familiar with the Griffin Society bottlings. Is this the same as the red label barbera or a step above?
@hscottk I’m told (by the club manager) the Griffin is a step above the white label. I’ve got a couple mags of the '18.
@rjquillin The website has the 2020s… red
label $30, Griffin $38, and J&S reserve white label $48. So looks like the mid level, unless the Griffin includes a discount since it’s club purchase only. Either way, looking forward to trying this one in 5 or 10 years!
@hscottk Yeah, looks like I inverted those two in the hierarchy of things. Did you see that Cattedrale Barbera? Need some supplemental O₂ for those.
@rjquillin Pricey! I’ve always loved the Cathedral bottles that narrow at the bottom. Still have a bottle of 06 Cathedral cab somewhere…
Be better casemates
@bedenny Not to take away from your disappointment, but I’m curious… What was the 2005 Woot Cellars bottle, the Emergency Holiday Provisions?
@bedenny fwiw, those Hawk and Horse will last for at least 20 years in magnum. Drink one every 5 years and have fun with them!
@maht87
Yes it was. The 2009 was the Tøøthstejnn. The saving graces for me (even though they were probably around 4 or 5 bucks a bottle when released )
@klezman
It’s probably stupid of me to get excited over the “4 or 5 bucks a bottle when released” wines, but I guess I’ve been drinking the Kool-Aid far too long now…
@maht87
It’s yours if you want it, free of charge. Send me a message. It’s definitely one of the things that I was excited about, but likely over the hill and I have no emotional attachments to it. Now if it was Wellington….
@bedenny
Gård Vintners Mystery offering was absolutely amazing.
@Drez143 Yes. I didn’t partake in it but my buddy did. I agree, that was a great offer to be fair.
@bedenny @maht87 bless you maht7. and as i said in a previous post. i’m super bummed we messed up with the redundant bottles. i packed many of these myself, the multiple offers were the first to be run and we believe there was a misunderstanding on instruction and a handful impacted. i plan to do something about that. the largest purchasers should have all had different wines. huge mistake. my fault.
@Winedavid49
I actually very much appreciate your response, especially since I did not tag you. Thanks for caring!
Mags:
2019 Scott Harvey Barbara Red Label
2014 Hawk and Horse Vineyards Cab
750s:
2017 Center of Effort Pinot Noir
2020 Scott Harvey Inzinerator
While I am extremely jealous of those who got the aged Woot Cellars bottles, I’m super happy with what I received.
SH Barbera/ Red Friends. Nice
2015 Hawk and Horse Cab
2002 Wellington Syrah
2021 Meadowcroft Napa Cab
2019 Schug Pinot Noir
2014 Woot Cellars Large Bold Text
2018 Peterson Zero Manipulation
2x 2019 The Messenger Cab
I’m pretty thrilled with what I got and I’d definitely be disappointed if I got pairs of everything, but some of the hate in here is a little puzzling. Swap the wellington and large bold text with more generic choices and I’d have a selection of some of the most common wines people have gotten but I’d still be pretty happy. Maybe I’m just a chump, but at least I’m a happy chump I guess.
@slowbie you definitely scored
FWIW: today, TSO has the 2021 Meadowcroft for $25 for a 750. The Mag s/b worth quite a bit more, even at a wholesale price.
@jmdavidson1 wouldn’t that price make the mag worth less than $80?
@danidani12 @jmdavidson1 not necessarily.
@CorTot @jmdavidson1 @danidani12 Napa Cab at the prices in either example is a very very good deal. Meadowcroft is a good house. just because it’s offerred in two places doesn’t necessarily minimize either offer, IMO. it shows good opportunistic sourcing.
@CorTot @jmdavidson1 @Winedavid49 I would’ve been delighted to get one
@gtcharlie that Tecuil is very interesting wine, imo. high altitude Argentina. rare, emerging.
@Winedavid49
Glad to hear that. Will be interested in trying it.
@gtcharlie Oh dang, totally forgot that code!
@Winedavid49
I feel bad for disparaging the wine. We opened it last night and were very pleased. Ready to drink right now with plenty of fruit and was an excellent match with some grilled flank steak. Just goes to show you not to judge a book by its cover or in this case a wine by the label…
@gtcharlie all’s well that drinks well!
Not sure the pic will upload.
I received Mags:
Hawk and Horse Vineyard 2015 Cab Sauvignon
Hien 2014 Pinot Noir
750’s:
Monkey Prize 2 Red Blend 2008
Vivendo 2017 Red Blend, Chile
Very Happy with the selection
@foxrunner nice selection!
@DebRVA i love Stillman’s wines. fwiw.
@DebRVA I received the same pair - hope it’s good!
@DebRVA That zeppelin mag should be phenomenal.
@DebRVA I understand your hesitation, might I take it off your hands? I would be willing to pay the CM price + s/h.
Very happy with the variety, and to get a magnum AND a 750 of juice rated 91 points by WE to try out.
@KNmeh7 you absolutely scored tbh
@KNmeh7 @losthighwayz i love Stillman’s wines. i love his zany brain. he’s a fascinating winemaker.
@KNmeh7 @losthighwayz @Winedavid49 agree, Swilly always has my attention. Actually taking a tall Wine Club (in the bat design) to a NYE party unless my new Magnums change my mind.
@bunnymasseuse @KNmeh7 @losthighwayz @Winedavid49 that’s a wine club,i have one.let us know what you think when you drink. love mr browns wines,also a big fan of dread zeppelin
@bunnymasseuse @crabbyman @losthighwayz @Winedavid49 Look at you showing off your actual “wine club” versus the mag we all received.
@crabbyman @KNmeh7 @losthighwayz @Winedavid49 to be clear, I acquired my real “real wine club” outside of this event.
UPS is hanging on to my delivery now until next week for this purchase, so knowing what I got will have to wait.
@bunnymasseuse @KNmeh7 @losthighwayz such a cool bottle (hard to pack).
@KNmeh7 It couldn’t have gone to a nicer guy!
@KNmeh7 aka witling: there’s vineyard & sub appellation and appellation on the label.
Looks like I received the Hein many others did, but also some different bottles
first box
2019 tolosa pn mag
2008 schug merlot mag
2017 smith story pn
2016 boedecker pn
second box-same as the first box
lots of pn
wish i got what that winey little bitch got
@crabbyman You know you can @ me if you want to talk shit.
Or… you can stand back from your keyboard indignation, think, yea… so he “lucked out” but brought forth the issues everyone is experiencing. I won’t stand by silent when a business is screwing customers. Hooray for me.
Instead of focusing your ire on the site, that made money off of you, you decide someone calling a spade a spade is a winey (was that on purpose? it is WHINY) bitch. Hooray for cordiality.
@KNmeh7 how do you know i was referring to you? i think there was at least three winey little bitches here.
@crabbyman @KNmeh7 It’s a tag team, where they keep passing the whine from one to another.
@crabbyman @KNmeh7 @rpstrong a whine club?
Just got mine.
Lennox 2015 Pinot
Schug 2001 Merlot
Sawtooth Ridge 2020 Cab
Peterson 2019 Vignobles Red
Interesting selections, just a bit concerned about the 2001 Merlot.
@Springbank cool(ish) climate Merlot? Should be rocking!
@klezman Hope so. Not familiar with any of these. Had a lot of Peterson, but not this one.
Straight from the ups store. Not personally familiar with any of these. Was really hoping for a Wellington, but wasn’t everyone?
@jaybird
I’d say you scored simply from the fact that you received a great assortment/variety.
Just got mine and pretty pleased for my first purchase:
1.5 Hawk and Horse 2015 cab sav
1.5 Tolosa Edna Valley Heritage Pinot Noir 2018
750 Wrath Pinot noir 2018
750 Center of Effort Pinot Noir 2017
@mattig88 We got the same mix and are quite pleased. We have not had the Monkey 2nd prize but loved the first… way back in the good old Woot days.
![wine][1]
Got ours in today! Even got an autograph!
[1]:
@a5meiser Merlot! Score imo
Hein Mag 2015
Scott Harvey 2019 Syrah
Messenger (i think I have some left)
Beau Vigne 2020 Juliet - I dont know this one at all
could’ve been worse, right? thanks WD et al.
@fgfljsb killer stash!
@fgfljsb Jealous with envy. Nice.
Some excellent assortments here!
More Zin than I’d like, but very happy with the assortment! Jealous of those of you who got Monkey 2nd Prize. Fond memories of that one.
@anoopr Welly!!!
@anoopr
Nice assortment, if a bit heavy on the SH,
but that Welly adds some depth.
Which Griffin?
@rjquillin Zinfandel for the Griffin.
Excited for the Welly. I still have a few bottles from way back when. I’m guessing this one is out of its drinking window.
@anoopr
You might be pleasantly surprised. I still have some of Peter’s Rhone whites and despite their age they are drinking beautifully.
@anoopr and the vintage?
Scott sure does use generic front of bottle labels
@anoopr @kawichris650
Indeed, all those '13 whites are doing just fine; imo, and I’d happily trade you a '13, or even a couple for it!
And that Griffin, lmk how it is. Seems I’ve got a couple
@rjquillin 2018! Here’s a snap
Brown surprised in an ASTONISHING WAY, by delivering today when they said they would not!! Omg!!!

No, I didn’t get a Welly, but that’s ok. My variety was heavier on the Pinot&CS but I’ll make it work! Worth the mystery! Pics incoming.
Nothing against Swilly, but some variety would have been appreciated.
@Zortapa let me know if you want to swap Mags, and a 750. I can rectify this, and clearly we both know I’m a Swilly fan.
@bunnymasseuse We can discuss, but I was hoping that CM would respect the spirit of their promise to send “different” bottles even though they were not allowing the two-pack to be purchased when I placed my orders…
@Zortapa understood. I’ll let @Winedavid49 make amends, but my offer still stands.
@bunnymasseuse @Winedavid49 @Zortapa WD addressed this in a reply above, said it wasn’t supposed to happen and that he plans to do something about it (unsure what that means tho).
https://casemates.com/forum/topics/mystery-magnum-plus#658f2c0ddc0b3afcfb92a6cb
@bunnymasseuse @Zortapa So you ordered two 1 packs but wanted them to treat it as a two pack? That’s asking a lot. WD already described this fulfillment as a logistical challenge. Now, they would have to check all 1 pack orders and look for duplicate names/addresses to ensure different wines were sent.
In reading these posts it’s abundantly clear just how difficult it is to make everyone happy.
Didn’t know how to post a pic before - very pleased for my first order!
A magnum bottle is effectively a 2-Pack, so this evening will be a Schug Night
@WCCWineGirl @winedavid49 Thanks for all of your hard work. My wife and I love Casemates and it’s brought us great joy over the years. Haters gonna hate…
I got a nice assortment. Still got Wellington Criolla and white port from back in the day.
2012 Schug Pinot - magnum
2014 Hawk and Horse Cab Sauv - magnum
2021 Campo Pietra Rosso Di Montepulciano
Wellington Estate port
Finally home and energetic enough to hunt down my mystery box!
Mags:
2010 Schug Pinot Noir, Carneros
2021/2 Zeppelin Wine Club Magnum Farce
750s:
2018 Peterson Tollini Vineyard Barbera
2017 Vigilance Cimarron Red Blend, Lake County
Thanks @winedavid49 for a fun mystery offer!
Cheers to the New Year!
@forlich
@forlich glad you liked the selection!
Just picked up my order.
Meadowcraft cab mag
District 7 2020 pinot noir 750
Congrats to all who got lucky
Picked up today:
Mags - 2016 Schug PN, 2017 Tolosa PN
750- Messenger Cab, Talosa 2016 Nobile Di Montepulciano
Happy with my mystery.
@eastcoastmary thank you.
I guess CaseMates really want me to try Barbera!?
![mine wine][1]
[1]:
Life would be a little less fun without Mystery Cases in it
@knotworking hear hear!
Not sure if anyone cares anymore, but I finally got around to opening my 2x2:
2004 Schug Sonoma Valley Merlot 1.5L
2021 Meadowcroft Napa Cab 1.5L
2015 Vigo Paso Robles Syrah 750
2018 Whitehall Rassi Cab 750
I’d say I’m very pleased with the variety and quality of the Mystery Cases! Cheers!
@emribecky i care! thanks for the feedback. love this combo for you.
@emribecky I recall that Rassi being very good. Maybe WD can secure another Whitehall parcel!?
@Winedavid49 of all my mail/internet order wine brokers, you all are my fav!
